"No, let's go together." I quickly interrupted Xie Yuancheng; I knew exactly what he was thinking.
My back is still a little sore. If I had gone with him, who knows what kind of torment I would have endured!
"No, for the sake of the bigger picture, Ying'er has no choice but to come with me."
Xie Yuancheng is always very authoritarian. I can't argue with him. I wish I hadn't come out.
"That's so unfair! Your parents have no idea what you really look like. If only we hadn't gone out with you yesterday, we could be playing with the three little ones now."
"Ying'er~" Xie Yuancheng began packing up the tent: "We are still young, we cannot be complacent, we must dare to break through."
"Stop talking nonsense to me. You think you can brainwash me? Don't try to fool me with the things you learned in 2020."
"Okay, I'll tell you on the way."
Xie Yuancheng told me to wait for him outside, so I went outside with the Phantom Sword and the bundle my mother had prepared. In just the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Xie Yuancheng had the tent all packed up.
How did you do that?
"I'm pretty good, aren't I? This is something I've honed over many years of training in the wild, so Ying'er won't be in any trouble with me."
I ignored him. Xie Yuancheng put the things on another horse, leaned over and smiled, "Ying'er~ No matter where you go in the future, you can't abandon me."
"What a pedantic man." I rolled my eyes at him. Do men really think being the emperor is so great?
"It's true, being the head of the six palaces is a lifelong dream for many women."
"Pah! Don't compare me to those vulgar women scheming in the palace. If you say another word, I'm riding away on my horse."
"I wouldn't dare. I'm just worried. You used to always like to go to the palace. How could I not be anxious?" Xie Yuancheng winked at me with his fake peach blossom eyes.
I rubbed his face with both hands. "Back then, our status was different. He was the prince consort. If he had been out fooling around all the time, the Ji family mansion would have been ruined."
"That's good. The palace is no good. Who knows how many innocent souls are buried there. That silly prince isn't even as good-looking as me. Ying'er will never abandon her husband and children."
He started bragging again. I hugged the Phantom Sword and closed my eyes to rest. Xie Yuancheng stole a kiss on my cheek and then went to arrange things.
I watched his figure disappear. That pig, he actually thought I left him for some empty, illusory fame. How could he even think of that?
He never used to be so insecure. I wonder if it's because he's been out there for too long and is now so worried. But haven't I given him enough reassurance? I stay home with the kids and don't go out much.
I touched the patterns on the Phantom Sword and gave it my assessment: "Both dull and cunning!"
When it was fully light, they began to head north. I looked at the horses in front of me and said, "Couldn't you have prepared two horses?"
“No, I need to stay closer to Ying’er. This horse can carry a weight of a thousand catties. We are only a few pounds. It can handle it perfectly well.”
Xie Yuancheng patted the horse's back with a mischievous grin, and I could guess what he was thinking: "He doesn't think about anything serious."
I mounted my horse first, and Xie Yuancheng followed. Since we had nothing else to do, I took out the small mirror I had hidden and went out to check myself. The shopkeeper had said that as long as the small mirror wasn't discovered, I could bring it back, and I actually did.
“Ying’er, you’re starting to act more and more like a mother.”
Xie Yuancheng came closer, and we walked in front. He didn't care about his image at all, and his men really didn't mind at all!
I looked at ourselves in the mirror and thought, "We're such a perfect match, a match made in heaven."
"Yes, if you were."
"Stop kidding me." I put the mirror away. "Watch where you're going. If you fall, I'll definitely teach you a lesson."
"Yes, Madam is the most important person; whatever she says is right."
Xie Yuancheng started leading the group properly, and I finally understood why he said those people couldn't keep up. How did he discover such a steep path?
I looked down into the abyss below, and realized that if I wasn't careful, I could easily fall in.
"Yuan Cheng".
"Ying'er, I need to calm down now. We'll play together again tonight."
I cursed him inwardly for being an unreliable marquis, but it was far too dangerous here, so I closed my eyes and dared not look. The horse walked very slowly, but every step was remarkably steady.
When I opened my eyes, everyone was on flat ground. But what lay before us was a canoe, so the tense experience of crossing the bridge began again.
After finally getting past the narrow pass, the gravel road and the narrow path, I could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
It's already afternoon.
"Yes, Ying'er took a nap with me, and we arrived at Bright Moon City very quickly."
"We've arrived in Brightmoon City so quickly?"
"It's not fast. This is a shortcut, but it's a bit dangerous. However, it can shorten the distance by three days."
I stretched and then fell asleep in his arms. In my hazy state, I felt the horse running very fast, which startled me awake.
I looked back and saw a black bear chasing me. "How come there's a black bear here?"
"Few people come here. There are many obstacles ahead that can block it." Xie Yuancheng was in particularly good spirits. He tossed the reins to Lin Chao and told them to run ahead first.
Then he threw a few smoke bombs at the black bear that was running towards him. The black bear quickly stopped, howled in place, and then started rubbing its eyes with its paws.
Xie Yuancheng rode his horse over, and I grabbed his hand tightly. "Don't go, it's very fierce, what if..."
"No, I just had it help me by flicking its tail."
"This road is so dangerous, how could there be a tail!"
“This is the edge of Bright Moon City. These are the people guarding it, not those who came with us.”
I was relieved. Luckily, it was someone guarding the bear. Xie Yuancheng had apparently dropped something on the black bear, and the bear howled as it ran towards someone.
Xie Yuancheng blew the howl at his waist again, and some black birds flew down from above, following behind the black bear. Only then did he spur his horse to chase after Lin Chao and the others.
We traveled all the way and temporarily settled in a village outside Mingyue City. Xie Yuancheng arranged a room for me and then took many bags off his horse and went out.
I leaned against the window listening to him talk; it seemed like he was just saying some things to be careful about, but I couldn't hear anything else clearly.
"Ying'er, you've even learned to eavesdrop now~" Xie Yuancheng leaned against me with a smile, and I finally realized what was going on.
"How did you get in? I didn't even notice."
Xie Yuancheng picked me up and said, "It's right that you didn't realize it; I left very quietly."
"Put me down quickly."
"No, there's a pond behind the village. I'll take you there to wash."
Xie Yuancheng told me to wrap myself around his waist and opened another door to go out. Luckily it was nighttime and no one was passing by, otherwise I would have lost all face.
The pool was exceptionally clear, and I stayed submerged in it, not wanting to come out. Xie Yuancheng was washing himself next to me, and I only went to his side after I had soaked enough.
