Chapter 189 Ambush on the Road

They talked for a while before breaking up. Xie Yuancheng and I walked back, and as soon as they saw us coming out, they drove over.

After getting into the carriage, I felt sleepy and leaned against Xie Yuancheng to catch up on sleep. I don't know how long I slept, but the carriage suddenly jolted and I woke up.

"Haven't you gotten off the bus yet?"

"Ying'er, you've only slept for half an incense stick's time, go back to sleep."

I looked at my belly, which was still flat: "I just dreamt that I was pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl. The two little ones were so cute to touch. I hadn't even gotten a good look at them when the carriage jolted and I woke up."

"You're becoming more and more aware of being a mother; you even know about cute kids now."

"Of course, I was able to take care of Yu'er for a while, although it wasn't long, but my precious son was very well-behaved."

"Hmm, let him know that you abandoned him to your aunt, and see if he'll still behave towards you after that."

"Oh dear, don't keep this to yourself!" I opened Xie Yuancheng's palm and massaged his muscles and bones. "Considering how good I am to you, Marquis, please be more magnanimous."

"Don't worry, I'll only talk to you privately, I won't tell my son."

Seeing that he had made a promise, I quickly sat up straight and said, "You said it yourself, so I don't need to flatter you anymore."

"Ying'er is starting to set traps for me now!"

I dodged Xie Yuancheng's outstretched claws. Just then, the carriage suddenly stopped. Luckily, I grabbed his arm, or I would have fallen to the ground.

Xie Yuancheng hugged me. There was someone on the roof of the car. I wrapped my arms tightly around his waist. How could someone in the capital still be trying to harm him?

The sounds of fighting came from outside. Xie Yuancheng was holding me in the carriage, and the people standing on the roof had already jumped off.

The carriage curtain was lifted, and two masked men walked in. Xie Yuancheng swung his sword, and they were knocked away.

"Yuan Cheng, who are they?"

"I suspect it was sent by your good princess. Lin Chao can handle it; I don't need to lift a finger."

"Li Zhaole!" She was still angry about Xie Yuancheng betraying the 'Prince Consort'. Sigh, what a kind-hearted girl.

The sounds outside quickly subsided, and I loosened my grip slightly, lifting the carriage curtain to look inside. Just as I opened it, a sharp sword flew in, but Xie Yuancheng, quick-witted and agile, was knocked away just as the sword approached me.

"I'll never lift the curtain again next time." I nestled close to him; although he was thin, his embrace was still very warm.

"Ying'er, you've been flirting with girls everywhere, now you're getting what you deserve."

"No way, she's just upset that I was deceived by you, boohoo."

My heart nearly jumped out of my chest in fright. Xie Yuancheng carried me outside, where there were very few masked men left. He casually snapped two people who approached him.

Now only Lin Chao is fighting three people. Xie Yuancheng helped me out of the car. I thought he was going to help, but Xie Yuancheng just put his arm around me and stood aside to watch.

"Aren't you going to help your master?"

“He can handle it. This road leads to the capital. If they can show up, they must be from the royal family.”

Li Zhaole is so kind. I'll explain it to her later, but my current situation is awkward. We're clearly the same person, but I can't even use her name.

Lin Chao finished off the three men and ran over: "They were all the princess's subordinates. They were beaten half to death, but I didn't kill them."

"That's good, let's go back."

I always feel sleepy when I'm in a carriage. It's only been a little over a month, and I'm already starting to feel sleepy. It's probably related to autumn.

When I mumbled to Xie Yuancheng that I was feeling sleepy, he laughed and said, "Ying'er, go to sleep. I'll wake you up when it's time."

With a reliable man by my side, I fell into a deep sleep and when I woke up, I was already in bed.

Yu'er giggled beside me, and I quickly got up and hugged him, playing with him: "Yu'er, did you run over here because you saw Mommy was asleep?"

Yu'er pinched my hair, tugging at it with his little hands, and grinned. I have no idea what this little guy is laughing about all day, but if he cried, I'd probably be sad.

"I wish he could run now." Xie Yuancheng was in the room; he had already changed his clothes.

"You said you would wake me up, but I was already in bed when I woke up."

“I didn’t call out anywhere. You were sleeping so soundly. If I weren’t strong, I probably would have had to carry you in like a cargo.”

"You're the one who's the merchandise." I tossed the teething toy I gave Yu'er from the bedside table to him, and Xie Yuancheng caught it quickly.

"Ying'er, you're being petty again."

"Yu'er, your dad's itching for a beating again, go bite him." I ignored him and was about to pick Yu'er up in his arms when I realized my hair was tangled in my son's hair.

"Ouch, it hurts! Yu'er, let go!"

Waaah, I'm the mother! My son always pulls my hair, and when he goes to Xie Yuancheng's place, he acts like a strange cat.

"Haha, Ying'er, he's angry. He told you to say he bit me."

Despite his words, Xie Yuancheng still took Yu'er away, and my poor long hair was ripped out in several strands.

"What are your little hands made of? I can't just tear you apart."

I opened Yu'er's palm to look at her chubby little paws. It must have hurt so much when she pulled her hair.

"Serves you right for not playing with your son properly. Now you know how formidable he is."

While Xie Yuancheng was speaking, Yu'er followed along, making "ya ya" sounds. This little brat, he still wants to talk, doesn't he realize he's only a few months old?

When we were having dinner, my mother took Yu'er away. My belly was still quite flat, but she actually told me to gain a little more weight so that it would be easier to give birth.

I fainted when I gave birth to Yu'er in Linyang. When I returned to the Ji residence, my mother said that I was a picky eater, which was why I fainted. When Consort Ji arrived in the afternoon, Xie Yuancheng and I had not yet arrived.

She played with Yu'er for a long time, and I woke up shortly after she left.

It's all Xie Yuancheng's fault for not waking me up, leaving us speechless. He even said that we women are just too talkative and can go on and on about trivial things all day long.

The days that followed were filled with suffering. Wan'er joined their ranks and prepared many medicinal meals and tonics for me. I ate and drank a lot, but I had none of the motivation to nourish my body that I had back in Heqing Palace.

Back then, in order to get pregnant, I took a lot of tonics, both bitter and sweet ones. Regardless of the effectiveness of the medicine, at least Yu'er was born.

But now that things are going too smoothly, I don't even have the thought of nourishing my body; I'm even eating like crazy!

I couldn't stand the bland smell of medicinal cuisine every day. Finally, after a month, I lost my appetite and asked Anxiang to take me out to eat something spicy to change my palate.

However, the Ji residence was heavily guarded. As soon as we arrived at the backyard and the door was opened a crack, Xie Yuancheng was standing outside.
