I turned to look at Xie Yuancheng. He really was going to Liujia Village. I'm starting to feel really averse to villages now. Just then, my teacher came over and said he wanted to take me on as his last apprentice.
"Teacher, Ying'er is just lucky, please don't flatter her."
Xie Yuancheng immediately became unhappy. He put his arm around my waist and wouldn't let go. When I looked back at him, his expression was like that of someone whose precious possession had been snatched away.
“I raised you up, but I didn’t take you out with me. I taught you right here in the Marquis’s mansion.”
The teacher gave him a rare look and came over to ask me how I had noticed it. I explained that when I was about to come over, I felt something was off, and then I saw a few flashes of light, which made me realize there was something wrong.
I saw insects moving on the tree, but they were the same color as the tree. I asked Xie Yuancheng first before asking the teacher to go and take a look.
"Not bad, he has potential. Yuan Cheng, that idiot, took three years to even get to the basics. He's the slowest learner I've ever had. But he's lucky; he married a talented wife."
Xie Yuancheng rarely disagreed: "Teacher, I'm practically your son, how can you praise Ying'er while belittling me? What if Ying'er gets too much praise and then doesn't treat me well in the future?"
"Yuancheng, don't talk nonsense. Even if I become an old woman, I will still rely on you."
I held his hand, which was in front of him. He's just too insecure. If I don't protect him, who will? I see it clearly now: many women just want to use him to climb the social ladder, not because they love him.
"Ying'er~" Xie Yuancheng leaned on my shoulder without any regard for the occasion. Even the teacher shook his head and told the group to keep moving forward.
"Anyway, there's no use stopping me. I'll still teach you when we get back." The teacher was truly impressive, leaving behind just those words before departing.
Xie Yuancheng stood there fuming, and it took me a while to persuade him before he finally followed. Meng Anshi was probably stunned. When he followed Xie Yuancheng, he always presented himself as a distant and aloof marquis; he had never witnessed such a scene before.
I noticed the soldiers and cavalrymen were all smirking. Xie Yuancheng's lifelong reputation was probably ruined today. He's all show and no substance anyway; it would be better if everyone disliked him, then he'd be mine alone!
I don't know how he heard me, but he had a wicked grin on his face and was talking nonsense in my ear. I just closed my eyes and ignored him, and drifted off to sleep.
When I woke up, it was dark all around, and I was lying in the tent: "Oh no!" I went outside thinking everyone was gone, but thankfully there was laughter and cheerful conversation everywhere.
"Yuancheng!" I searched everywhere for Xie Yuancheng. He's always by my side. I hope nothing bad has happened to him.
"Ying'er, who are you looking for? You've been ambushed, you need to rest more. I'll treat you when we get back."
The teacher came out, and I quickly went to tell him that when you're playing with Yu'er, you bump into a wall and it's a premonition in your dreams. Luckily, Xie Yuancheng, that big mouth, had already talked to the teacher about it.
“I know that. If it weren’t for your dream last time, we wouldn’t have been able to take down the King of the Western Regions so quickly.”
"I just had a dream, I don't know if it's true." I pulled the teacher aside: "I dreamt that someone used a sorcerer to control the people in our team and deliberately lured Yuan Cheng towards their nest."
"Once we arrived at the entrance of Liujia Village, they seized the opportunity, infiltrated our minds, took control of Linyang, and turned it into a site of mutiny."
I was really scared by this dream again. Luckily, my teacher came along this time. He also looked puzzled. Looking around, he saw people who had risked their lives for him.
"There really are people who can control their minds!" the teacher muttered. I told him about the troublemakers and the events in the capital, and I guessed that someone was using the Empress's story to create dreams for some people.
“Last time, Yuancheng and I passed through some towns. Although the people there were not old, the vicissitudes in their eyes could not be hidden. Their figures and voices were very similar to those of children.”
I brought up the shopkeeper's matter again, and the teacher had already heard about it, so now I don't need to mention it anymore.
"Ying'er!" Xie Yuancheng came over, a little angry, when he saw us there, with Lingwu following behind. I went over and took his hand to look into his eyes; thankfully, it was a mixture of anger and affection.
"Yuancheng, go and call Anshi over. We'll wait for you in the small tent!"
Xie Yuancheng was stunned for a moment, then grabbed my hand to leave, but the teacher stopped him, and he had no choice but to leave angrily. The teacher shook his head, saying that he was always very calm, and only became particularly agitated when it came to my affairs.
"Actually, it's all my fault. I'm stubborn and wouldn't listen to his explanation!"
"It's not your fault. Girls should be raised to be pampered so they can have a good life. Even Yuan Cheng didn't do a good job. When I was raising my wife, I was the real role model."
"Huh?" I turned to look at Ling Wu, who looked like he was watching a good show, so I started waving my hands.
They were talking about a small tent. We clearly opened the tent door, but when we went inside, we found it was a small cave. Lingwu explained to me that it was built using the art of divination and escape, which is why Xie Yuancheng disagreed. I secretly learned it; it was truly astonishing.
Xie Yuancheng and the others came in quickly. I was having a good time talking to the teacher when he pulled me to his side, like he was his personal little wife.
"Yuancheng, this is a very serious matter. You need to be careful, or Linyang might be lost."
"Hmph!" Xie Yuancheng, that little arrogance, let me lean on his back before smiling and talking to the teachers. I thought it was petty, but I guess they were used to it and didn't care.
"What! This, this can't be!" Meng Anshi was so frightened that his face turned pale. The teacher went over and pricked his temples and forehead with a needle.
Soon, a small insect appeared on Meng An's stone. Ling Wu sprinkled insecticide on it, and the insect disappeared immediately. I clung tightly to Xie Yuancheng's slender waist, almost startled.
Because that little bug was about the same size as a small snake, just a tiny bit smaller. It gave me goosebumps. Xie Yuancheng's face was clouded with anger; anyone would be angry in that situation.
They have worked hard for more than a decade to achieve the peace and fiefdom they enjoy today. How could they possibly give it up so easily?
"Yuancheng~" I could feel his body trembling: "You need to calm down. We know now that there must be signs, so you must not panic."
"Ying'er, Master has truly treated us well; this ability was given to you by him. This time, we must wipe them all out and restore peace to Linyang!"
It turns out the shopkeeper gave me this ability. I was wondering how I could suddenly be able to predict things. So that's why.
After Meng Anshi woke up, I saw Xie Yuancheng going to help him up, so I let go and followed beside him. Meng Anshi's eyes were indeed much clearer; I had thought it was from the march, but it turned out he had been controlled.
Li Ruowei must have been attracted to those clear eyes; otherwise, why would they have suddenly gotten together?
