Chapter 123 Ruan and Mu curry favor with the general and escape. (shuhaige.net)

In the enemy camp in the northern frontier, Consort Mu was placed under house arrest in a simple tent. Her eyes held no fear, only determination and unyielding spirit. Despite her predicament, she maintained the dignity and pride of a member of the royal family.

While on patrol, a guard noticed Consort Mu's calmness and composure, and couldn't help but make a sarcastic remark: "Consort Mu, you really don't know what's good for you and don't appreciate the general in front of you. It's truly admirable that you can maintain such a demeanor under these circumstances."

Consort Mu glanced coldly at the guards, her voice calm yet firm: "I am the Imperial Consort of Qi, and I will always maintain my dignity. Your general, though brave, is not the act of a true hero to use a woman as a threat."

The guard was speechless, not expecting such a direct rebuttal from Consort Mu. He chuckled awkwardly, trying to hide his embarrassment: "Your Highness, war is cruel, and sometimes it requires extraordinary measures."

Consort Mu turned her head away disdainfully, her eyes filled with contempt: "True warriors should fight to the death on the battlefield, not resort to such despicable means. Your general, even if he wins the war, will lose the hearts of the people."

The guard was speechless, realizing the unwavering conviction in Consort Mu's words. He snorted coldly and turned to leave the tent.

Inside the enemy camp's tent, facing a meager meal, Consort Mu was filled with complex emotions. Several days of hunger had gradually drained her strength, but her will remained firm. She knew that to maintain a clear mind and find a chance to escape, she first needed to preserve her basic physical strength.

The sound of the guards changing shifts outside the tent broke the silence of the night. Consort Mu took a deep breath, her eyes flashing with a resolute light. She reached out with trembling hands and slowly picked up the coarse grains and water in front of her.

Despite the meager food, some of which was even difficult to swallow, Consort Mu told herself that this was not just for survival, but also to maintain the strength to fight against adversity. She ate in small bites, each bite as if she were chewing on her dignity and freedom.

Night deepened, and the oil lamp inside the tent flickered weakly. Consort Mu leaned against the simple bed, her thoughts drifting to the distant Kingdom of Qi, to her family and loved ones. She closed her eyes, silently vowing, "I will persevere until the day I regain my freedom."

The next day, when the guards brought food again, they were surprised to find that the food brought the day before had been completely eaten. Consort Mu's face remained calm, but a hint of determination was revealed in her eyes.

The guards began to realize that the woman before them was no ordinary person. Her resilience and wisdom instilled a sense of awe even in these battle-hardened soldiers.

However, the enemy general, a rough and burly warrior, bored with his army and arrogant about power, once again came to Consort Mu's tent, intending to harass her.

With a slightly mocking smile, the general entered the tent: "Consort Mu, military life is monotonous, and your arrival has undoubtedly added a lot of fun for us."

Consort Mu raised her head, her eyes showing no fear, only calmness and determination. Her voice was calm yet powerful: "General, I am the Imperial Consort of Qi. Any inappropriate behavior will affect your reputation and that of your country."

The general was taken aback, clearly not expecting Consort Mu to respond so directly. His smile froze on his face, and for a moment he didn't know how to proceed. He paced back and forth.

A barely perceptible ruthlessness flickered in Ruan Yumu's eyes. Her long imprisonment had taught her that to gain freedom, she had to seek opportunities, and opportunities often favored the prepared mind.

An arrogant and careless warrior stepped into the tent once again. He looked at Consort Mu, a hint of smugness flashing in his eyes: "Consort Mu, are you getting used to life in the army? Perhaps you can be more comfortable, if you wish."

Consort Mu sneered inwardly, but outwardly she feigned obedience: "General, I appreciate your kindness. After all, I am the imperial consort of Qi. If you could be a little more lenient, I would be eternally grateful."

Upon hearing this, a greedy glint flashed in the general's eyes. He stepped forward and reached out to untie Consort Mu's ropes: "Your Highness, you've finally come to your senses. As long as you cooperate, I guarantee you will receive the treatment you deserve."

Consort Mu secretly observed the general's movements, nervously plotting her next move. Just as the general was about to touch the ropes, she suddenly looked up, her gaze sharp as lightning: "General, do you really think you can win my cooperation this way?"

The general was taken aback; he hadn't expected Consort Mu to suddenly ask a question. In the instant he hesitated, Consort Mu swiftly approached, skillfully subduing the general with the agility honed from years of court life, and quickly untying the ropes binding her hands.

“General, you underestimate me,” Consort Mu said coldly, her eyes filled with disdain and determination.

A resolute glint flashed in Consort Mu's eyes. Taking advantage of the general's momentary lapse in concentration, she swiftly subdued him. Her movements were practiced and decisive, clearly a well-thought-out operation.

"General, you are now my prisoner." Consort Mu's voice was calm but firm, her gaze fixed on the general, lest he have any chance to resist.

The general was panicked; he hadn't expected to find himself in such a predicament: "You...what do you want to do?"

Consort Mu gave a cold laugh. She didn't answer the general's question directly, but instead began to move out of the tent, using the general as a shield. She carefully avoided the patrolling soldiers, taking advantage of the darkness and the chaos to gradually approach the edge of the camp.
