Su Tangxue pursed her lips and turned to leave. For Aunt Huang's sake, she didn't bother to argue.
Time was running out, so she picked up the bag and went straight to the pig pasture.
It was already noon, and there were still a few busy figures in the pig pasture. Su Tangxue took a glance and locked onto Huang Guiying's position.
He strode forward carrying an apple.
"Aunt Huang."
Hearing the sound, Huang Guiying raised her head and looked back, with a look of surprise and joy on her face.
"Xiaoxue, why are you here?"
Ever since Xiaoxue became a teacher, she has been very busy and we can only meet on weekends. It has been more than a week since she last saw me.
"Aunt Huang, it's noon, are you still busy?"
Aunt Huang's little girl was put in the shade nearby to take a nap. She had just woken up when Su Tangxue came over. Aunt Huang was also forced to rest.
"Aunt Huang, I came to you this time to discuss something with you."
"Xiaoxue, you say."
Huang Guiying wiped the sweat from her face and unbuttoned her jacket.
"Auntie, this is what's going on. Our school is looking for a kitchen helper next week to cook lunch for the children. There's no salary, but lunch is included... Do you think you'd be interested?"
Su Tangxue swallowed her saliva. The more she talked about it, the less confident she became. Even if Aunt Huang had the time, she probably wouldn't accept free labor.
"Aunt, it doesn't matter if you don't agree. I'll find someone else."
Fearing that it would embarrass others, Su Tangxue added a special sentence.
"Xiaoxue, this is something! ...It's not impossible."
Aunt Huang frowned and said.
"Aunt, please tell me what you want."
Su Tangxue's eyes lit up, and she would try her best to grab any glimmer of hope.
"Xiaoxue, I'm willing to do this. I don't have much to do at home anyway. A few days ago, my mother-in-law saw me always staying at home and eating white rice, and she said a few words to me. In a fit of rage, I brought my children to the pig pasture."
"But after just a few days, the baby's body started to turn red. When I got home, my wife started to make trouble for me. I was so distressed! I didn't know what to do."
"As long as it gives my daughter and me something to do and keeps us company, I'm willing to work. Food is fine, but I can't handle cooking for the kids by myself!"
Su Tangxue's heart skipped a beat. Apart from Aunt Huang, she couldn't find a suitable candidate. There must be two. It was already so difficult to find one now, and the other one... Su Tangxue was not very sure.
"Are you still hiring? I'm willing...as long as I get food."
Su Tangxue turned her head and looked in the direction of the voice.
Gou Waer and his mother stood awkwardly behind them. Wu Lai Di had a twisted face, dark and rough, with a hint of expectation and fear in her eyes.
She was afraid that her eavesdropping behavior would be offensive to others, but at the same time she was very hopeful to get the job.
After struggling for a while, she chose to speak.
"Aunt Wu, if you don't mind being tired, you can come over. But we only provide food, and there's not much money to take away. Is this acceptable to you?"
As far as Su Tangxue knew, Aunt Wu was willing to do all the heavy and tiring work that no one else in the brigade wanted to do for the sake of the family, as long as it paid well.
During lunch break now, Aunt Wu is still busy in the pig pasture with her dog.
Thinking of what her brother had told her before, she couldn't help but feel sorry for the couple.
"Yes, yes, I'm willing to help you in the kitchen, as long as I provide food."
With tears in her eyes, Wu Laidie nodded desperately, afraid of missing this opportunity.
As long as she can keep her child fed, she is willing to do any job.
