What is that?
From an outsider's perspective, it's not hard to tell what it is.
They only saw a girl leap high into the air, her expression somewhat terrified. Directly below her was a cylindrical, worm-like creature. The creature was enormous, about two meters thick, with the same thickness from front to back. Both the part buried in the sand and the part that emerged to attack Lin Yiran were plump and cylindrical, with barbs growing at intervals along its body.
The most terrifying thing is that its mouth is huge; it can swallow more than a dozen people in one go!
If the girl really falls, there won't be enough for it to swallow!
This is a sandworm! A unique insect-beast found only in the desert, a mutated animal. Due to its mutation, its body can grow up to 100 meters long and 50 meters thick. Every time it feeds, the surrounding desert will sink into a large pit!
"Watch out!!" When Sen Qi'an and his men rushed over from afar, they saw this dangerous scene. When he saw it, his heart was in his throat, fearing that Lin Yiran would fall down and become food for the sandworms.
The kind that doesn't make you burp even after taking a bite.
Lin Yiran heard Sen Qi'an's voice, but she didn't turn around. Now was not the time to be distracted. She turned around and landed more than ten meters away. Then she manipulated the dagger to rotate around the sand worm, slashing left and right until the soft-bodied sand worm was covered in blue blood. The most bizarre thing is yet to come.
Because of the intense pain, the sandworm emitted a high-pitched sound similar to a baby crying, making people want to vomit. Lin Yiran was one of them; she covered her ears and squatted down immediately. The sandworm's cry was too awful for her to bear.
This gave the sandworm an opportunity. After letting out a cry, it saw Lin Yiran squat down and twisted its huge body to follow her, opening its big mouth to try to swallow Lin Yiran whole!
When Lin Yiran stood up, she saw the sand worm's terrifying, black hole-like mouth coming towards her, about to swallow her whole in a second.
Fortunately, Sen Qi'an made a move at this moment. The instant he ran over to save the person, the mecha merged with his body. When the blue, ocean-like mecha appeared on his body, it dazzled the sandworm's eyes. When he opened them again, Sen Qi'an had already plunged the giant sword in his hand straight into the sandworm's skull!
The sandworms started squealing and flapping, covering Lin Yiran's face with sand.
She quickly ran away to a distance, and Sen Qi'an landed at the same time. After landing, he pulled Lin Yiran away a step.
"Fortunately, it's just a larva," Sen Qi'an said.
Lin Yiran: "What if it's an adult insect?"
Sen Qi'an glanced at Lin Yiran and felt that the girl lacked common sense: "If it is an adult sandworm, then we will have to send the federal army to clean it up, and our competition will be terminated."
Lin Yiran: "Is that powerful? Didn't you just kill that sandworm with a single sword strike?"
Sen Qi'an: "Take this as a compliment from you, but sandworms aren't that simple. This one is probably less than a month old and can't spray venom yet, which is why it gave me an opportunity. Otherwise, if you had been sprayed by this sandworm when you were up there, you would have been poisoned immediately, and the competition would have been over."
Lin Yiran was speechless. Is this thing really that powerful?
Thank goodness, she escaped unscathed; she was truly lucky.
It's not Lin Yiran's fault; she really doesn't know much about these interstellar creatures. She'll have to ask the system to give her a lesson another day.
"I never expected you to come back alive," Sen Qi'an said to Lin Yiran after seeing the sand worm die.
Lin Yiran: "It's alright, they're too bad!"
Sen Qi'an: I'm speechless! What did she mean by saying five S-class mech soldiers were too weak?
"Oh, right," Lin Yiran handed the things she had taken from those people to Sen Qi'an, including several heat-resistant suits, drinking water and nutrients, and some energy supplies for the mecha.
She kept the daggers and the machine gun for herself.
Sen Qi'an took the mecha power source and the protective suits from Lin Yiran, but refused the rest, saying, "Keep the rest; they're your spoils. We still have enough resources."
Lin Yiran didn't stand on ceremony with him and put the nutrient solution away herself.
"There's still a day before the airdropped supplies, so what do we do next?" Lin Yiran asked.
There are very few mutated plants and animals in this desert. If they want to get high scores, they have to rely on mutated plants and animals, which is a bit of a conflict. Where do they need to find mutated plants and animals?
Sen Qi'an glanced into the distance with the newly acquired binoculars and pointed in a direction: "There's an oasis over there; there might be mutated plants and animals there."
"Moreover, if we go this way, there will be a group of mutated cacti along the way, which is also a good place to score points."
"So we headed in that direction."
“However,” he said, with some concern.
"That sandworm just now seemed to have come from that direction. I think there should be a sandworm nest there."
Lin Yiran thought for a moment: "This is the arena. The Federal Army usually clears the arena before the competition starts, right? They wouldn't leave high-level mutated plants and animals here."
Sen Qi'an smiled and said, "You're right. High-level mutated plants won't appear on the competition field, so I'm also planning to go in that direction."
"You can even earn points if you see sandworms while passing by!"
Lin Yiran: "Okay!" She loves fighting.
She was still a little disappointed that she hadn't been able to kill the sand worm with her own hands, and she had heard that sand worms could spray venom, which would undoubtedly be another challenge.
The main force began to advance.
This time, there were almost no logistics soldiers in the team. The logistics soldiers also needed to go forward to clear the way, but they were mostly responsible for transporting supplies. Because there was almost no food in the desert arena, Lin Yiran's good cooking skills could not be fully utilized here.
This saves them the trouble of cooking; they eat nutritional supplements every day, so they don't even need to turn on the stove.
However, I must say again, this nutritional supplement is really awful! Only two days into the competition, Lin Yiran already feels like she's gained two pounds!
Tonight, it was Lin Yiran and Jin Shuo's turn to keep watch. Before the watch, each of them was given a nutritional supplement as a midnight snack. When Jin Shuo came over, Lin Yiran was drinking the nutritional supplement, and her expression was as painful as if she were eating something.
Jin Shuo, watching from the side, felt the same way. After so much time, he finally realized that Lin Yiran wasn't faking it; she genuinely hated drinking nutritional supplements.
Logically speaking, since she grew up in an orphanage after the age of four, she shouldn't be so averse to nutrient solution. But Lin Yiran is Lin Yiran, and it's only natural that she hates nutrient solution.
