Seeing Wang Xuzhi's face suddenly change color, Lin Zao's voice sharpened abruptly as she stared intently into his eyes:
"What do you mean, 'looking for me'? Don't you know how I disappeared?!"
Wang Xuzhi unconsciously took a step back, as if Lin Zao had seen through his heart.
"You! You knew all along..."
His gaze towards Lin Zao suddenly turned gloomy and dark, no longer gentle and affectionate as before.
"So what if you found out? You only have yourself to blame for protecting that old man! And for entrusting him with something so important! He deserves to die!"
"You ran away to save people, fell into the river, and were swept away. You have no one to blame but yourself!"
Several images flashed through Lin Zao's mind:
She was carrying an old man as she fled through the jungle.
"Miss, don't worry about this old servant. Just remember your mother's words, live well, and protect that secret!"
Then, on the bank of a swift-flowing river, she was fighting with her pursuers.
"Miss, watch out!"
"Uncle Cheng!"
Then came the scene of the old man taking an arrow for her, and the two of them falling into the river and being submerged by the surging water.
Thinking of this, a murderous intent flashed in Lin Zao's eyes:
"It really is you! You actually dare to come looking for me! Have you already decided how you want to die?"
Before Lin Zao could make a move, Tang Jian reached out and grabbed Wang Xuzhi by the neck!
"Stop! Release my master! Is there no law anymore?!"
The butler was so frightened that he tried to rush forward to save the man, but Tang Jian threw him away, and he couldn't get up for a long time.
Wang Xuzhi's face was contorted, feeling like he was about to suffocate. He tried desperately to pry Tang Jian's hands off, but he was no match for Tang Jian.
He looked at Lin Zao with difficulty, straining to speak in a hoarse voice:
"Thing! Don't you want to know?"
Tang Jian paused, looked at Lin Zao, and asked in his eyes whether to keep this person alive or not. Just kill him!
Lin Zao's lips twitched. She hadn't even said she was going to kill him yet, and he had already made his move!
He shook his head at him, indicating that he should spare his life.
Tang Jian then regretfully released the person and threw them on the ground.
Wang Xuzhi lay on the ground coughing and breathing heavily. The butler next to him finally got up and rushed over to help him up.
When he finally managed to stand up, his throat was still burning painfully. Even swallowing a mouthful of saliva with difficulty felt like a burning sensation!
He glanced at Tang Jian and Lin Zao, this time not daring to be too presumptuous, and left behind a rather embarrassed harsh remark:
"I will remember what happened today!"
Then he prepared to leave with the butler.
The butler followed behind, asking cautiously:
"Young master! Those phoenix mirrors..."
Wang Xuzhi stopped in his tracks and turned back to look at Lin Zao:
"So you know about the Twin Phoenix Mirror too! Hmph! We'll see!"
Lin Zao did not have anyone stop them, so Tang Jian left with them.
Seeing Lin Zao staring thoughtfully at their retreating figures, he seemingly unintentionally turned to block her view.
"Does Madam recall anything?"
Lin Zao then looked at Tang Jian, a relieved smile finally appearing on her face:
"Although I don't remember anything, I'm certain that I am Lin Zao! We are one person!"
Tang Jian had an "I knew it" look on his face. "How did you confirm that, Madam?"
"I just had a mental image of falling into the river. When I fought those who were chasing me, I used my usual moves!"
Lin Zao sighed, "When I fell into the river, I must have hit my head, been swept away by the water, and caught a chill, which caused my amnesia."
