Chapter 121 Wearing a Mask

Aunt Ren looked at the closed door, her hand holding the food box trembling slightly. She took a deep breath and forced a stiff smile onto her face.

She didn't want her son to see her like this and then worry about her instead.

"Tianci, it's your mother! Your mother has come to see you!"

Aunt Ren called out to the house in a gentle and loving voice.

A loud "thump" came from inside the house!

Aunt Ren's expression changed and she quickly pushed the door open. Inside the room, on the hospital bed, sat a young man dressed in a gray-blue cloth robe.

What is most striking is that the man is wearing a half-mask, covering most of the left side of his face, from his eyelids to his chin.

He was struggling to get out of bed, but he couldn't manage it after several attempts!

"Heaven has blessed me with a son!"

Aunt Ren let out a shrill scream, and the smile on her face finally crumbled as tears streamed down her face.

She lunged at the person on the bed, losing her grip on the food box in her hand, but luckily Tang Jian nimbly reached out and took it from her.

"Mother! It is your unfilial son who has worked for our enemy. Please beat and scold me!"

Ren Tianci's eyes were slightly moist, and he spoke with difficulty and hoarseness. His throat was choked by the thick smoke from the fire, and he was also seriously injured.

He reached out to catch Aunt Ren who was lunging at him, but Aunt Ren stopped at the crucial moment.

Aunt Ren couldn't bear to beat or scold him, so why punish her son?

It's clearly the fault of those evil people; they're the ones who deserve to go to hell!

She wiped away her tears, slowly reached out, and gently took Ren Tianci's hand in hers, where she saw many burn marks.

Looking at the mask on his face, Aunt Ren choked back tears and tried to lift it off with one trembling hand.

"you···"

Before Aunt Ren's hand could even touch the mask, Ren Tianci grabbed it.

"Mother, don't look anymore, your son is fine."

Aunt Ren finally couldn't hold back her sobs and burst into tears. "Oh God! What did she do wrong to deserve this punishment!"

Her husband died tragically, her daughter is missing, and now her son has become like this. Why did they do this to her?

She would rather suffer all the pain herself than let her children live healthy and safe lives!

Ren Tianci reached out and hugged his mother. He looked up, trying not to let the tears fall, but it was all in vain.

Watching the mother and son embrace and weep, Lin Zao felt a pang of pain in her heart, her nose stung, and tears welled up in her eyes.

Tang Jian, who was standing next to her, silently patted Lin Zao, offering her silent comfort.

Once the mother and son had finally calmed down, seeing that Ren Tianci looked somewhat pale, Lin Zao went over to support Aunt Ren.

“Aunt Ren, I see that Brother Ren looks a bit tired. Why don’t we take him home first and let him rest and recover?”

Aunt Ren then realized what was happening and quickly let go of her son.

"Oh right, where's my food container?"

She was relieved to see the food box safely in Tang Jian's hands.

"Tianci, are you hungry? Mother has cooked your favorite chicken soup. Have some first, and then we'll go back to the General's Mansion, okay? Mother will always be with you from now on!"

Seeing that Aunt Ren looked a little nervous, Tang Jian helped her take out the chicken soup from the food box and handed it to her.

Ren Tianci knew that his mother was frightened by him, so he didn't say anything, just nodded and obediently opened his mouth to drink the chicken soup his mother fed him.

Aunt Ren kept talking while feeding her son:

“General Tang’s family are all good people! If it weren’t for the general’s wife saving my mother, she might never have seen her son again! The old lady of Tang has treated me like family, and she even asked the prince to inquire about your sister for me!”
