Upon hearing this, Li Zheng's eyes turned cold, and he instantly guessed what was going on. Just then, a guard came in and whispered something in Li Zheng's ear. His face turned red and white, his facial muscles trembled, and he slammed his fist on the table and stood up in a fit of rage.
"How dare you, Liu!"
Li Zheng got up and was about to leave when he remembered that Lin Zao was still there, so he immediately called the housekeeper over to greet the guests.
"Young friend Wang Lin, I am truly sorry, but I have urgent family matters to attend to. If you have nothing else to do, you may finish your meal before leaving. I will take my leave now!"
Lin Zao smiled and returned the greeting, "I won't disturb you any longer, sir. I also have some matters to attend to, so I'll take my leave now!"
"In that case, I won't linger any longer. Take care, young friend!"
"Butler, personally see the guests out!" Li Zheng winked at the butler.
As Lin Zao walked out of the prefectural gate to leave, the steward handed her a dark-colored purse:
"This is a gift from my master to thank you, young master. Please accept it!"
Lin Zao was still a little surprised, but without any hesitation, she reached out and took it, saying modestly:
"Thank you very much, sir! You are too kind. If you ever need my help in the future, I will do my best to help you! I will have to consult with the steward more often in the future, and I would appreciate it if the steward could put in a good word for me with you!"
The butler smiled with satisfaction upon hearing Lin Zao's reply, and watched Lin Zao leave, thinking, "It's good that you have something to ask of me!"
Once out of the butler's sight, Lin Zao's smile vanished, and she looked in the direction of the young doctor from before.
They've all disappeared. It seems the prefect has investigated and found out the truth, and all the doctors who were implicated have gone back.
Lin Zao found a secluded place to change back to her original appearance. After thinking for a moment, she didn't go back immediately. Instead, she went to a general store, bought some candy, and then took out a piece of meat from her spatial storage after leaving.
She then took out two bottles of Yunnan Baiyao powder and poured them into the porcelain bottle she had just bought at the grocery store, preparing to go to the Jishi Medical Clinic to see the old doctor.
Upon arriving at the clinic, Lin Zao found the door tightly shut. After knocking for a long time, the young doctor finally opened the door with red eyes.
He was somewhat surprised to see that it was Lin Zao:
"Madam, are you here to get medicine again?"
"Is the old doctor here? I've come to thank him for saving my mother's life," Lin Zao said, raising the things she was carrying.
"Madam, please return! My master is injured and unable to receive guests!"
Although the young doctor was touched by Lin Zao's kindness, he still refused, as no one has it easy these days.
“I’ve heard a little about your master’s situation. I happen to have some excellent external wound medicine that I want to give to him.”
Seeing that Lin Zao had brought medicine for injuries, he immediately stepped aside to invite Lin Zao in. He had heard his master say that the medicine for external injuries that this lady had was very effective.
Arriving at the old doctor's bedside, I saw the once vigorous and carefree old man now lying pale and lifeless on the bed.
She's still conscious, so she seems alright! Lin Zao felt relieved.
"Master, this lady has come to see you and brought some medicine for external injuries!"
Lin Zao put down her things and placed the Yunnan Baiyao (a traditional Chinese medicine) on the old doctor's bedside.
"Doctor, are you alright? This is a hemostatic powder passed down in my family. It works very well. You can try it!"
"Thank you for coming to visit me, Madam! I only suffered an external injury, and I have already taken medicine. There is no need to waste such good medicine from you!"
"You're too kind, Doctor. You can call me Lin Zao. I still have a little bit of this medicine left, but the recipe has been lost. Your medical skills are superb, and you are highly respected. Whether you need it or not, I feel at ease giving you this medicine. I also hope that you can help it be further developed and improved!"
The old doctor understood Lin Zao's meaning and was immediately moved to tears, his eyes welling up with tears. He was so excited that he wanted to get up and thank her.
"I, Zhang Chuanbai, am truly fortunate to have met Madam Lin. I will certainly not let her down!"
Lin Zao quickly stopped the old doctor.
"Dr. Zhang, you flatter me. I didn't do anything special. I just hope that more people can use it in the future."
Lin Zao recalled the conversation between the prefect's wife and the old woman, and casually asked Doctor Zhang:
"Does Dr. Zhang know a Dr. Ren?" She had assumed he was Dr. Ren.
Unexpectedly, Dr. Zhang sighed.
"You actually know Doctor Ren? Wow! His family had a royal physician in the past, but he was demoted to Luolin City after some incident. It's been more than 30 years since then, and in Luolin, his medical skills are the most superb!"
He took a breath and continued:
"It's just that his family offended some prominent families in the capital, and now he's the only one left in his generation. If it weren't for his medical skills, he probably would have been ruined long ago!"
"This time, the prefect's most favored concubine got into trouble. He couldn't withstand the prefect's severe torture and died. I heard that his daughter was also sold off by the prefect's wife, and his only son was conscripted three years ago and his whereabouts are unknown. Now only his wife is left at home, and I'm afraid..."
Dr. Zhang shook his head, hesitated, and felt a sense of shared sorrow, before finally letting out a deep breath.
