Chapter 2 Never Go Hungry Again

Although they were husband and wife for only one night, Lin Zao became pregnant with twins. Tang's mother was so happy that she forgot the sadness of her son's departure and devoted herself to serving her daughter-in-law, hoping that her daughter-in-law would give birth to two big, fat grandsons. Who knew that within two years, there would be either natural disasters or man-made calamities, and the family would live a poor life, sometimes eating a full meal and sometimes going hungry.

"Mommy, I'm so hungry..." Her daughter Ya Ya cried out like a kitten, bringing Lin Zao back to her senses.

"Don't worry, Mother has food. I will never let you go hungry again."

Lin Zao looked around. The group of refugees had disappeared at the end of the road, and there was hardly anyone around. They happened to be leaning against a dead tree, which provided some cover.

The two children were only three years old and could speak fairly clearly, but they didn't understand much. So she didn't hold back and took out a few bags of biscuits and bread from her space for the children to eat first. Lin Zao herself was also feeling a sharp pain in her stomach from hunger.

The son, Tiger Head, stared wide-eyed as his mother waved her hand, creating a dazzling array of colorful things. His mouth dropped open in astonishment.

"Mother, you're a goddess!"

Tiger Head remembered his grandmother often talking about how powerful the gods were, and he thought his mother had suddenly become a god.

"Shh, this is a secret between us. Don't tell anyone, or someone else will take all the good food and we'll go hungry."

Lin Zao was afraid that her child might accidentally tell someone and cause trouble.

Tiger Head and Ya Ya knew how uncomfortable it was to be hungry, so they didn't want to tell anyone and nodded understandingly.

Lin Zao tore the bread and biscuits into pieces and gave them to the two children, and also brought out milk for them to drink.

Seeing that their mother still had a lot of food in her hands, Hu Tou and Ya Ya ate heartily without worry.

"Delicious! Sweet! Mommy, have some too!" Ya Ya smiled happily and handed the bread in her hand to Lin Zao.

Seeing this, Tiger Head looked at his sister and mother, and handed the half-eaten bread to Ya Ya.

"Little sister, eat quickly, brother is full!"

Looking at her two children's sensible appearance, Lin Zao felt a sense of fulfillment. During the apocalypse, she dared not trust anyone and longed for the company of her family. Now that she had two children, a sense of responsibility to raise them to adulthood and health settled in her heart.

"You all eat quickly, Mother has plenty more, Mother will eat it all herself!"

The mother and her two children quickly finished eating and drinking. Lin Zao also recycled the trash into her spatial storage, leaving no trace, and prepared to leave with her two children.

Originally, the mother and her two children were preparing to flee to Yuezhou Prefecture with her parents-in-law, uncle, and sister-in-law. However, they were robbed on the way. In order to protect the remaining food supplies, the mother-in-law was captured and beaten by the robbers. The father-in-law and uncle, only caring about their own safety, abandoned the mother-in-law and fled on their own.

The original owner wanted to stay and find a chance to ask for help, but was scolded by her mother-in-law and could only escape with her two children.

Having barely escaped, the elder sister-in-law immediately changed her attitude and snatched the original owner's bundle, which contained the only food left for the mother and her two children: a small bag of coarse rice bran and a handful of wild vegetables.

In the struggle, the original owner was pushed over. Seeing that the original owner was injured, the father-in-law, elder brother-in-law, elder sister-in-law, and their two sons all coldly abandoned the mother and her two children and left.

Tang Jian's mother-in-law was his second wife. She gave birth to Tang Jian's only son after marrying into the family. His eldest brother was born to his first wife. His father-in-law always favored his eldest brother. When Tang Jian was conscripted into the army, it was his father-in-law who forced Tang Jian's mother to let him go.

Looking at the sky, which was estimated to be around dusk, Lin Zao figured the bandits should have left by now. She carried the two children back home, one on her back and the other in her arms.

"Tiger Head, Ya Ya, shall we go find Grandma?" In her memory, Tang's mother was incredibly kind to Lin Zao and her two children.

Regardless of the circumstances, we should go back and look for Tang's mother. If something has really happened, we should help her with her burial and not leave her body exposed in the wilderness.
