"Come on," Lin Zao said with a smile, extending her hands to the two children.
Seemingly bewitched by the smile on Lin Zao's face, the two slowly reached out and placed their hands in Lin Zao's palms.
Lin Zao gently pulled them up and carried them off the carriage one by one.
When Hu Tou and Ya Ya saw that their two older brothers had finally woken up, they immediately ran over happily.
"Brothers, you're finally up! Come on, come on, my mother made you some delicious chicken soup! She's been waiting for you."
Tiger pushed his mother aside, grabbed one of his brothers by the hand, and headed towards the dining table that had been set up.
Ya Ya followed behind, thankfully she still remembered Lin Zao. Seeing her mother lagging behind, she put her little hand in her mother's hand, "Mommy, let's go eat lunch quickly~"
Lin Zao shook her head and smiled, then slowly followed behind Hu Tou and the others, holding Ya Ya's hand.
The food was already served, and Tang Jian was already seated.
Tiger led the two of them to sit down on the other side of the table, and he even squeezed himself between them.
After Lin Zaoya and Ya came over and sat next to Tang Jian, Tian Bu'er sat down next to the three boys to take care of them.
The two children each had a large bowl of chicken soup, and each bowl contained a large chicken leg.
Tiger Head taught them, "Drink the soup first, then eat the rice."
The two children obediently picked up the chicken soup bowls. Although they still drank it quickly, they didn't wolf it down as much as before.
The meal was very warm and harmonious. The two children ate two large bowls of rice, and although they were still reluctant to leave the food on the table, they were able to control themselves from stuffing themselves.
Seeing them patting their bellies with great satisfaction, Lin Zao and Tang Jian smiled at each other.
Lin Zao took out four lollipops and distributed them to the children. She did this because she saw that giving Ya Ya candy had been very effective.
Lin Zao gestured for Tang Jian to hold Hu Tou and Ya Ya, who were holding lollipops, before turning to look at the two children and preparing to ask them a question.
"Can you tell Aunt Lin your names? Do you remember your family? Where is your home?"
Perhaps the feeling of fullness in their stomachs, the candy in their hands, and Lin Zao's gentle voice soothed the two children's nervousness and helplessness.
The older boy finally spoke.
“My name is Chen Wen, and this is my cousin Ma Qingping.”
His voice was somewhat hoarse, perhaps because he hadn't spoken for a long time.
As he slowly recounted his story, Lin Zao and the others finally understood why the two had become like this.
It turns out that Chen Wen and Ma Qingping are both from Tupo Town in Tianhe Prefecture.
Chen Wen was nine years old, and Ma Qingping was Chen Wen's cousin from his maternal uncle's family, who was eight years old.
Chen Wen's family was quite wealthy. His father was considered a landlord in Tupo Town, and Chen Wen was his eldest son, whom he doted on.
Unfortunately, Chen Wen's mother passed away when he was five years old, so the landlord Chen remarried.
As the saying goes, some stepmothers have stepfathers. After the second wife gave birth to a son, she couldn't stand Chen Wen, the son born to her first wife.
Although they were often mistreated in their daily lives, the Chen family was well-off, so they were not hungry or cold.
As the drought worsened, Chen, the landlord, harvested nothing from his land and was eventually forced to abandon it and leave with his possessions.
Although Chen Wen's maternal uncle's family also lived in the town, their conditions were much worse than Chen's. Due to the drought, they had long since run out of food and planned to leave with their family and Chen's family.
Together with the family of Chen the landlord's second wife, the three families left Tupo Town.
Until a riot suddenly broke out.
