Chapter 316 Acorn Noodles

“I found a secluded valley in the mountains. It’s warm like springtime, which is why there are so many fruits here. I picked some so that everyone can enjoy them.”

Lin Zao didn't hide anything about the valley, since she would come back eventually and people would notice her. Besides, no one would find her if she didn't lead the way.

Sure enough, everyone laughed happily upon hearing this.

I was feeling a bit greasy after eating barbecue for a while, so having some fruit to refresh my palate was just right.

Everyone present was on their own side, so there was no need for pretense of politeness; each person simply took one. Of course, the guards didn't get any, as time was short and Lin Zao hadn't picked that many.

"Huh, isn't this a chestnut? It looks like an acorn." Tang's mother was eating a pear when she glanced at the sack next to her and saw what was inside.

Lin Zao looked at Tang's mother in surprise, "It really is an acorn, Mother, do you recognize this?"

Tang's mother beamed, "How could I not recognize them? There are a few oak trees on the hill behind our village, but every year as soon as they sprout, the village children pick them all, and then there are none left after the drought."

"I haven't seen this stuff for many years. Acorns ground into flour are very filling."

However, Tang's mother didn't say that it didn't taste very good; usually only very poor villagers would eat this.

Lin Zao thought to himself: It seems that acorn flour was already well-known in ancient times. You know, acorns are very nutritious. When made into acorn flour tofu and served cold, it tastes smooth, delicious and chewy.

The reason Tang's mother said acorn flour was for poor people was simply because everyone's seasonings were too simple and they were reluctant to add oil, so it naturally tasted bad.

Apart from Tang's mother, no one else present recognized Acorn.

This shows that unless someone is so poor they can't make ends meet, very few people would eat this.

Although Tang's mother knew that this food was not tasty, she would not stop her from eating it. After all, even if it tasted bad, it was still edible. Who would throw away food?

That would be a terrible sin! Even though they have plenty of food now, Tang's mother couldn't bear to throw away what she already had.

At worst, she can just cook it and eat it herself.

Lin Zao was unaware of Tang's mother's thoughts and was still thinking about how to make the acorn tofu taste better when she got back.

The two women each had their own thoughts, but that didn't stop them from enjoying their barbecue.

The others present didn't think much of the acorns; if Lin Zao said they were edible, they must be good.

A group of adults and children finished their barbecue and sat leisurely on the rocks and grass, enjoying the blue sky and white clouds.

Even the two wolves, having had a hearty meal, lay smugly to the side, swishing their tails and pretending to sleep.

After everyone had rested, the group began to walk down the mountain, and then went to visit the village.

Lin Zao strolled around the estate and saw that Jiang Fu had managed it very well, and the crops in the fields were all in good condition, so he left with peace of mind.

The group returned to the general's mansion in the evening.

As for Wei Yu, he parted ways with them halfway back to the Prince's Mansion, as he wanted to go to the General's Mansion to rest for the night.

But as the heir of the royal family, he has so much to learn. He only got to rest for most of the day after much effort, thanks to his father and mother's help.

Once he gets back, he'll have to catch up on his studies as soon as possible.

As soon as Lin Zao and his group entered, they were greeted by a smiling butler.

"Madam, General's wife! Great news! The General will be back in a few days!"
