Chapter 354 Writing Spring Festival Couplets

What should you do on vacation?

Of course, there will be plenty of food, drinks, and entertainment!

After a bath, it's time for a good meal.

Grilled fish, hot pot, and barbecue are the most requested dishes, and Linzao naturally wants to fulfill everyone's expectations.

So, when they arrived at the hot spring resort, their first meal was a hot pot with two broths: a tomato broth and a spicy beef tallow broth, paired with a refreshing fruit salad.

This is the perfect food for winter. We filled two large tables, and everyone was warming up from the meal, exclaiming how delicious it was.

After the meal, it was time for a walk, and everyone went for a stroll on the mountain behind the hot spring.

Gale and Black Wind followed along, disappearing as soon as they descended the mountain. This mountain wasn't as dangerous as Nine Deaths Mountain, so Lin Zao didn't bother with them.

Villagers must frequently come up the mountain behind the village. Many trees on both sides of the road have been cut down by villagers, presumably for firewood.

There wasn't a single pheasant or rabbit in sight. Fortunately, Lin Zao and the others weren't there to hunt; they were just there to relax.

The scenery on the mountain was also quite nice. Looking at the villages with smoke rising from their chimneys below, my restless heart naturally calmed down.

When the group returned to Tangquan Temple, they unexpectedly found a small bag of mushrooms.

In the afternoon, Lin Zao arranged new activities for everyone. Because she was worried that Tang's mother would be bored, Lin Zao recreated a traditional Chinese cultural activity.

The New Year would be incomplete without mahjong and playing cards, so Lin Zao had several sets made when preparing for the New Year.

Mahjong sets can be made of jade or golden nanmu wood, both of which are quite valuable.

As for playing cards, they are all made of relatively stiff cardboard.

So, in the afternoon, Lin Zao and Li Xiaotao played mahjong with Tang's mother and Aunt Ren.

Tang Jian, Han Qingyuan, and Ren Tianci played a fast-paced game.

As for the children, Lin Zao would definitely not let them play these games, so they could only play chess or Gomoku by themselves.

In short, everyone has their own form of entertainment.

In the evening, Lin Zao prepared a grilled fish feast, and Ji Feng and Hei Feng also caught a few rabbits and pheasants.

Lin Zao also made extra braised chicken and diced rabbit meat, which everyone ate with gusto.

And so, a fulfilling day has passed.

In the following days, they had barbecues, fried chicken sets, or dessert parties. Adults and children alike were having so much fun that they didn't want to leave.

It wasn't until the day before New Year's Eve that the group packed up and prepared to go back.

On New Year's Eve, people not only do a thorough cleaning, but also put up couplets and write the character "福" (fortune).

Of all the family members, Han Qingyuan had the best handwriting, so the task of writing couplets was assigned to him. He had lost his left hand, but he wrote with his right hand, so it didn't affect his writing.

As for the handwriting of others...

Tang Jian learned to read thanks to his sworn brother Han Qingyuan. Although he can read now without any problem, his writing skills are far from good enough.

As for the rest, after Lin Zao regained her ancient memories, her handwriting was quite good, but it was about the same as Chen Wen's.

After all, she was still used to modern writing habits, and she hadn't practiced calligraphy much, so she couldn't compare to other time-traveling women who were proficient in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting.

The children, wanting to join in the fun, also wanted to write Spring Festival couplets, so Lin Zao let them write them and paste them in their yard.

As for the couplets on the main gate of the General's Mansion, they must be written by Han Qingyuan. After all, it's the facade of the mansion, and people would criticize it as childish if it were written by children.

In modern times, who would care about these things? They might even praise the child for being excellent. But in ancient times, it was the complete opposite.

If I post something that's poorly written, I'm afraid I'll get criticized and pointed out.

For the sake of the children's dignity, Lin Zao wouldn't post it out.
