Undeterred, Lin Zao searched again, even overturning and searching the only remaining broken wooden plank bed by the wall, but still found nothing.
Lin Zao's heart skipped a beat; her worst fears had come true.
Perhaps Tang's wife swept the crystal core away as a useless stone and threw it away, and didn't even remember it.
Lin Zao thought for a moment, and it seemed that the trash they usually swept up was dumped in the corner of the yard.
So, with a glimmer of hope, Lin Zao went to the yard, walked to the garbage dump, and searched it carefully again. She even searched the entire yard and all three mud houses.
There's still nothing there.
Lin Zao's expression turned cold. She took out tools suitable for turning over the soil from her spatial storage, intending to search again even if it meant digging three feet into the ground.
It's not impossible that it was buried in the ground.
For the rest of the day, Lin Zao spent the entire time turning over soil in the yard.
Unfortunately, she still found nothing. She checked almost all the stones she found, but none of them were what she expected.
A chill ran through Lin Zao's heart; perhaps the crystal core had been left outside.
She plans to search the village again at dawn tomorrow. If she still can't find her, the worst-case scenario is that she has been taken away.
The next day, Lin Zao searched every nook and cranny of the village, but still found nothing.
Disappointed, Lin Zao returned to the Tang family's courtyard, took one last look at the Tang family's house, and finally sighed, hoping that the thing would not be recognized.
Untie the horse that was tied to the side; it's time to leave.
Lin Zao, leading her horse around, missed the ray of sunlight reflecting off the dry well.
Upon returning to Luolin Prefecture, Lin Zao immediately headed towards the prefect's residence.
Lin Zao directly stated his identity and purpose. The guards at the prefectural gate went inside for a while and then came out to take Lin Zao inside.
Until he saw the prefect's steward again.
"Steward, I am late. I hope you will forgive me and put in a good word for me with the Prefect."
"Young Master Wang, you're too kind. We're overjoyed that you've come. I've already arranged your accommodations, and we're just waiting for you to arrive."
The butler still had a smiling face, speaking to Lin Zao neither coldly nor warmly, maintaining a businesslike demeanor.
Lin Zao: "Thank you for your concern, housekeeper."
The butler said to the guard standing to the side, "Take him over and treat him well."
"yes."
Lin Zao didn't pull the steward to continue asking questions, but silently followed behind the guard until they arrived at a spacious courtyard before stopping.
"We've arrived. Several of our esteemed guests are already staying here. Young Master, you can go in and get to know them, since you'll need to cooperate more in the future."
After leaving a message, the guard departed.
Lin Zao narrowed her eyes and walked into the courtyard without any expression.
There were many houses in the courtyard. Lin Zao observed them and it seemed that everyone was staying indoors.
However, there would be a sign hanging outside the door of a house that was already occupied, so Lin Zao wouldn't accidentally enter someone else's room.
In the end, Lin Zao chose a room that was far away from the others, in the corner at the very edge. After entering the room, Lin Zao saw a sign placed on the table in the room.
Just like the signs that people had hung outside their doors to indicate that someone was there, Lin Zao picked them up and hung them on her own door.
It's still early, so Lin Zao plans to rest for a while and then go out to scout things out after dark.
When the servants brought lunch at noon, they delivered a message to Lin Zao.
