Chapter 382 Reward

Lin Zao planned to go out and investigate again at the hour of Chou (1-3 AM), when people are in the deepest sleep and are less likely to be spotted.

She had already planned that once she succeeded, she would change her clothes and leave.

As night deepened and all things fell silent, the time came.

Lin Zao put the watch into her spatial storage, then waved the sleeping incense under the dancer's nose a few times to make sure she wouldn't wake up before she began her actions.

Just like before, Lin Zao went out through the window.

However, this time was different. As soon as Lin Zao jumped off the courtyard wall, someone stood silently beside her.

Lin Zao was startled; if the person hadn't spoken up, she almost would have attacked.

"It's me."

It turned out to be the young master in black. Lin Zao didn't know his name yet, so she kept referring to him as the young master in black.

Lin Zao was worried that the two of them would be easily exposed if they stood here, so she looked around and pulled them to a corner.

"What do you mean? Why are you following me?" Lin Zao asked with a deep expression.

Although she wanted to find out Xiao Wu's identity, and since Xiao Wu had been living in the General's Mansion and the family saw each other often, she had developed a familial affection for him and wanted to help him recover as soon as possible.

However, this did not mean that she was completely at ease with the man in black. He seemed unusual, and she had no idea what his background was.

It would be bad if doing this rashly caused any trouble for the family.

Moreover, she originally wanted to pull the young man in black out of the prefect's mess and save his life because of Xiao Wu.

She'll bring him to Ganzhou, change her identity, and arrange for Xiao Wu to meet him.

But he never expected that this person would actually follow him.

Lin Zao's vigilance towards the man in black intensified. Given his skill just now, the fact that even she couldn't detect him meant that this person was no ordinary individual.

Yue Wuyan ignored Lin Zao's wariness and calmly asked in return:

What are you looking for?

Seeing that Lin Zao did not answer, he continued:

"Perhaps I can help you. During my time as the prefect, I can say that there is no corner here that I don't know."

Yue Wuyan looked at Lin Zao with an air of composure, quite confident that Lin Zao would seek his help.

With her aimless wandering around like a headless fly, she's far from capable of finding anything at the prefect's place.

Upon hearing this, Lin Zao carefully examined the man in black before her, a hint of suspicion crossing her mind.

"What is your purpose?"

She didn't believe this person would help her unconditionally.

Yue Wuyan: "Consider it payment for saving that idiot, unless I find out you're lying to me..."

Lin Zao ignored the person's threat. After all, she was telling the truth, and even if something did happen, the person might not be able to harm her.

However, Lin Zao still believed what he said.

With the man in black's abilities, he could probably do whatever he wanted in this entire prefecture as easily as if it were his own backyard.

Since he didn't ask for anything in return, Lin Zao didn't want to refuse. After all, she didn't have time to waste here. She originally planned that it would be best if she could find something, but she wouldn't force it if she couldn't.

She was naturally delighted that someone was willing to help.

Lin Zao told Yue Wuyan about the conversation she had overheard between the prefect and the steward.

However, Yue Wuyan showed no unusual reaction after hearing this, as if he already knew the prefect's intentions.

Lin Zao thought about his skills carefully; it wasn't surprising that others knew the truth.

Yue Wuyan knew that since he had come here, he would definitely find out the prefect and his group's purpose, but he didn't take it to heart.

Moreover, he did indeed know where the thing Lin Zao wanted was.

"I know where that thing is hidden, and I can help you get it. However, I need to see that idiot before I will give it to you. If you agree, we'll meet at the time we agreed on."

The moon left behind a single sentence before disappearing into the night.

Lin Zao stood there for a moment before realizing that he was worried she was lying to him, which was why he had tricked her into revealing her true intentions.

However, Lin Zao wasn't angry. As long as she got the things, that was fine. Besides, Xiao Wu was in the General's Mansion, so she wasn't worried that he wouldn't give them to her.
