Lin Zao didn't mind, pulled the cart through the city gate, asked a passerby for directions, and headed towards the clinic.
The four large characters 'Jishi Medical Hall' are hung above the gate, and it is said to be the best medical hall in the city.
Lin Zao pushed the cart straight in and saw many people coming and going. Some were leaving with their medicine, while others came in and called for the doctor. It was quite lively, and it seemed that the clinic lived up to its reputation.
Just then, a young doctor came out to see the guests off. Seeing Lin Zao and his companions dressed in tattered clothes, he greeted them with unwavering courtesy:
"Is Madam here to examine this old lady?"
Seeing that Tang's mother was still leaning against the cart without any reaction, Lin Zao nodded to the young doctor.
"Doctor, my mother was beaten by robbers and both her legs were broken, and she also broke several ribs. She has been unconscious for three days and has not yet woken up. Can you treat her?"
After hearing Lin Zao's description, the young doctor squatted down to examine Su's mother's condition. Upon seeing this, the two children quickly got off the stroller, hugged Lin Zao's legs, and looked at the doctor together.
After a short while, the young doctor stood up.
“This old lady is seriously injured. I’m afraid only my master can treat her. How about this, I’ll take you into the inner hall first. My master happens to be there.”
"Thank you, doctor!"
The young doctor helped Lin Zao carry Su's mother inside. Seeing that the two children looked a little scared, she comforted them.
"Don't worry, Grandma will be alright!"
Upon entering the inner hall, a room filled with the aroma of medicine, sat an elderly man with white hair and a beard, stroking his beard as he read a book.
"Master! Come quickly and look at this old lady, her injuries are very serious!" The young doctor led Lin Zao to help Su's mother lie down on a hospital bed inside the room. There were several hospital beds lined up side by side in the room, apparently for temporary treatment of patients.
Seeing this, the old man quickly came over and reached out to take Su's mother's pulse. After hesitating for a while, he examined Su's mother's injuries and finally spoke.
"The patient's external injuries were treated promptly, but the internal injuries are quite severe, with bleeding symptoms. However, I can prescribe a medicine and he should be able to recover if he takes it for a period of time."
Lin Zao noticed that the old doctor seemed hesitant to speak, and knew he had more to say.
"Please speak frankly, Doctor."
"Madam, although the patient's left leg is broken, it has been set very well, and recovery is only a matter of time. However, the right leg is not so lucky. The meridians in the right leg are severed, and although the bones can be set, this leg is..."
Lin Zao understood what the old man meant; it seemed that Tang's mother's right leg was useless. Lin Zao felt heavy-hearted.
"Doctor, is there no possibility of a cure? I'm willing to spend any amount of money, as long as I can be cured!"
The old man shook his head. "I'm sorry, madam, I'm truly powerless to help."
Seeing that the doctor couldn't help, Lin Zao was somewhat disappointed.
"Doctor, when will my mother wake up?"
"After I perform acupuncture, the patient should wake up soon. I will prescribe the medicine first, and once she wakes up, I will brew it for her to drink."
After saying that, the old doctor went to the table to write a prescription, and handed it to the young doctor to get the medicine.
Then he began to prepare for acupuncture. After everything was ready, Tang's mother's head was soon covered with silver needles.
By the time the young doctor brought in all the medicine, the acupuncture session was over.
"The patient should wake up within half an hour! Take this lady to prepare the medicine. The patient can rest here for now."
"Yes, Master!"
Seeing that Tang's mother seemed to be in better health, Lin Zao felt relieved and left with Ya Ya and the young doctor, leaving Hu Tou by Tang's mother's side.
"Mother, will Grandmother never be able to walk again?" Ya Ya must have understood what the old doctor had just said, because she asked with tears in her eyes.
While watching the heat, Lin Zao added water to the medicine in the pot. This was her first time brewing Chinese medicine, but fortunately, the young doctor had already told her what to pay attention to.
"It's alright, Mother knows about wheelchairs. People with mobility issues can sit in wheelchairs. We can push Grandma wherever she wants to go, which is more convenient than when you came in a stroller!"
Ya Ya was relieved after hearing this. Although her grandmother loved her brother more than her, she could feel that her grandmother also loved her very much.
After Lin Zao finished brewing the medicine, she took Ya Ya to the inner room. The old doctor was still reading there, and Hu Tou was standing next to him, as if listening to what the old doctor was saying.
"Doctor, the medicine is ready. Has my mother woken up?"
"She should wake up around this time." Seeing Lin Zao enter, the old doctor put away his book and headed out, not wanting to disturb their time together. Seeing this, Hu Tou also went to Lin Zao's side and stood with Ya Ya.
Not long after she finished speaking, Lin Zao heard Tang's mother cry out that she was thirsty. She quickly went to the bedside and saw that Tang's mother had a pained expression on her face, her brows were furrowed, and she seemed to be saying something. Lin Zao bent down slightly and leaned closer.
"Zao Niang, Hu Tou, run! ...water..."
Lin Zao was surprised that Tang's mother was still worried about them even when she was unconscious. She knew from her memory that Tang's mother was very good to them, and now that she experienced it firsthand, she felt very empathetic.
"Mother, Mother, wake up! We're safe! The robbers have all run away! Wake up!" Lin Zao whispered to Tang's mother.
