Chapter 64 Childhood Fun

Lin Zao nodded, deciding to set up camp on the small hill over there, without worrying about safety.

The group immediately headed towards the mountains in the northwest. Since there was no road, they had to abandon the carriage and walk on foot. The children were carried by the guards.

It doesn't look far, but it's actually quite a distance.

Upon arriving at their destination, several guards first found a large flat area to set up tents, while Tian Bu'er took one guard to the mountains behind the area to hunt and prepare lunch.

Aunt Ren was busy setting up the pot and preparing the barbecue grill so that she could start grilling as soon as the food arrived.

Lin Zao then led the children around the area, looking at everything.

"Wow, there are wild fruits here!" Xiao Bao was indeed sensitive to food, and immediately spotted the fruit growing on a nearby tree.

Lin Zao looked in the direction of his voice and found it was a goat's milk fruit, but there were hardly any fruits left on it, only a few scattered ones, probably because the children in the village had eaten most of them.

"This is a goat's milk fruit. Only the red ones are edible; they taste sweet and sour. The green ones are inedible; they're extremely sour!"

Upon hearing that it was edible, Xiao Bao immediately picked one and put it in his mouth, discovering that it indeed tasted sweet and sour, with a slightly astringent flavor.

"Delicious! Tiger Head Sprouts, come quick! Brother Xiaobao will pick some goat milk fruit for you to eat~"

Xiao Bao picked all the remaining few.

"Brother Xiaobao, I'm here!"

Ya Ya rushed up to Xiao Bao and reached out her hand.

Where's Tiger Head?

Seeing that Hu Tou wasn't eating the wild fruit, Xiao Bao looked in his direction and saw that Hu Tou had also found a wild fruit and was reaching out to pick it, but unfortunately he wasn't tall enough and wasted his time.

Lin Zao watched Hu Tou's earnest little face and couldn't help but laugh. He didn't even call for help when he couldn't pick the fruit. This kid is too honest!

Seeing this, Xiao Bao stuffed all the goat milk fruit in his hand into Ya Ya's hand and ran to Hu Tou's side to help, since he was tall enough to reach it.

Lin Zao immediately stopped him upon seeing this.

"Hey, be careful! Don't pick it, let your auntie do it. This wild fruit is called a prickly ...

Actually, Lin Zao knew these wild fruits because she knew them from her maternal grandmother's house in her previous life. Her grandmother's house was in the countryside, and every time she went to her grandmother's house, she would run up the mountain to find wild fruits.

While helping the children pick wild fruits, Lin Zao explained to them how to pick the fruits so as not to prick their hands.

Those that are exposed are easy to pick, but those that are inside need to be pulled apart by removing the thorny vines, otherwise you'll easily get your hands covered in thorns.

Lin Zao used a large leaf to hold the wild berries and let the children eat them slowly. She also tried a wild raspberry herself. Mmm~ it tasted just like the one in her memory!

When Tian Bu'er and his friends returned with a rabbit and two pheasants, the two children had explored the entire surrounding area and were still somewhat reluctant to leave.

The rabbits and pheasants were already cleaned, so we just skewered them and grilled them. We also made a pot of chicken soup to cook the vegetables, and lunch was ready.

Everyone ate their fill. Although it wasn't as lavish as at home, it had a unique flavor, and the children were overjoyed.

After finishing their meal, Lin Zao led the children in a random direction to take a look.

After walking a short distance, they heard what sounded like children laughing ahead. Xiao Bao and Hu Tou looked at each other and suddenly rushed over in that direction.

"You two, slow down!"

Lin Zao quickly followed behind with Ya Ya. As for the guards, they had already caught up with the two children as soon as they started moving, so Lin Zao had nothing to worry about.
