When Lin Zao finally caught up with them, he found that they had arrived at a mountain stream where several children dressed in patched coarse linen clothes were catching loaches in the river.
Xiao Bao and Hu Tou were eager to try and had already started taking off their shoes and socks to get ready to go down.
Lin Zao quickly went over and saw that the river water was only a shallow layer, which had been stirred up by the children and made muddy.
“It’s the boss!” A child in the river recognized Lin Zao.
They were playing happily in the river when suddenly a few adults and two children who looked like they came from a wealthy family ran over, startling them.
They relaxed when they saw it was Lin Zao; it turned out he was someone brought by the boss.
Lin Zao also recognized that the child who called her was Jiang Fu's son, Jiang Fugui.
"Excuse me, I'm sorry to bother you. I have three children here who can play with you?"
Jiang Fugui was surprised that his employer would apologize to him, and blushed with embarrassment. His employer was so kind!
"Of course, as long as the young master and young lady don't mind!"
While they were talking, Xiao Bao and Hu Tou had already taken off their shoes and socks, pulled up their trouser legs and tied them up, and went into the river with the help of the guards.
Watching her brothers happily catching loaches in the river, Ya Ya, who was standing nearby, also wanted to go down and try it herself.
However, being a girl, Ya Ya was concerned about cleanliness. Seeing that her two older brothers had become just as dirty and covered in mud as the other brothers in the river shortly after they went down, she began to hesitate again.
Lin Zao didn't object to girls playing these games. Seeing Ya Ya hesitate, she thought for a moment and took Ya Ya to a secluded spot on the other side of the river, intending to personally take Ya Ya to play in the river.
Seeing this, Aunt Ren followed Lin Zao over, leaving only a few guards to watch over Xiao Bao and Hu Tou.
Seeing that Lin Zao was also going to take off her shoes and go into the river, Aunt Ren looked around with some concern.
"Madam, why don't you stay here? I'll go down and play with Miss for a while!"
"It's alright, Aunt Ren. There's no one here anyway, and you're watching over things, so what's there to be afraid of?"
Lin Zao knew that there were many requirements for women in ancient times, such as not being improper in front of men, not showing their feet casually, obeying their husbands after marriage, and obeying their sons after their husbands died.
Although she disagrees, she won't easily argue with others or challenge their bottom line; she just needs to do her own thing.
Aunt Ren knew that Lin Zao was determined, and seeing that she couldn't persuade her, she gave up. She just needed to keep watch over her.
Lin Zao led Ya Ya slowly into the river. Although the water was shallow, no one was playing around there, so it was quite clear.
I could see some small shrimp swimming slowly by, but I didn't see any fish. They were probably hiding under the rocks or in the mud, or maybe the village children had caught them all.
After teaching Ya Ya about snails, she let her slowly pick them up in the shallow water along the riverbank, while Lin Zao walked to the middle of the river.
The mud only reached Lin Zao's knees, and his feet were mostly sunk into it, showing how deep the mud was.
Lin Zao didn't pick up the snails inside, but instead slowly looked for anything else.
Suddenly, Lin Zao swiftly reached into the mud and grabbed an eel. The eel was held tightly by Lin Zao and could not escape no matter how it twisted in her hand.
"Look, Yaya! Mommy caught an eel. How about Mommy makes you eel noodles for dinner tonight?"
When Ya Ya heard that her mother had caught a fish, she quickly focused her attention on Lin Zao's hands.
"Mommy, there's a snake! Waaah, Yaya's scared~"
