A scream of agony rang out.
A figure fell from the rooftop in front and lay motionless on the ground.
The person is obviously dead!
The scene immediately fell silent.
The coachman who was driving Tang Jian and his companions hadn't even realized what was happening before it was all over!
Tang Jian was checking Lin Zao over, and only felt relieved when he saw that she was alright.
He knew danger as soon as he heard the whooshing sound, and nimbly pulled Lin Zao behind him. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Tang Jian nodded in a nearby direction, signaling his guards to check the surrounding area to see if there were any other hidden criminals.
However, he didn't even see clearly what his wife had just suddenly thrown out of her hand before the person who fired the arrow died.
"Wife, you weren't scared, were you!"
Lin Zao looked at Tang Jian, who was staring at her with obvious anxiety, and then at the person lying on the ground. She chuckled softly.
Do I look scared to you?
"What happened?"
Just then, the manager of Qibaoge ran out from inside. He had just heard a scream inside, which frightened all the guests into hiding.
Only then did he muster the courage to go out and check.
Only then did he realize that the people standing at the door were actually the General and his wife! He had met them before because he and his employer had gone to congratulate them on moving to the General's residence yesterday.
He was so frightened that his legs trembled. Luckily, nothing happened to the general while he was here!
Otherwise, even if he were to atone with his death, he would still be unable to escape blame.
Looking at the man in black lying on the ground, his life hanging in the balance, the innkeeper asked in a trembling voice:
"General, General's wife, are you alright?"
"It's alright, go and evacuate the guests inside first."
Tang Jian had just heard the chaotic noises inside the Qibao Pavilion; the guests must have been frightened.
"Have someone come and take the body back for examination!"
Tang Jian then gestured to the driver.
"Yes, General!"
The shopkeeper and the coachman went their separate ways.
The driver gestured towards a dark alley in the distance, and a moment later a plain-looking man ran out of it.
The two lifted the assassin up together and then slipped away.
Lin Zao stroked the sleeve arrow on her hand and stood with Tang Jian at the entrance of Qibaoge, waiting for the manager to disperse the customers.
Is someone trying to assassinate her so soon?
Was it sent by the Second Prince?
Lin Zao thought about how many things she had taken out, and apart from the hemostatic powder, the rest should not have been leaked!
Therefore, the only person she could think of was the Second Prince, because when she gave the hemostatic powder to Doctor Zhang, his apprentice was standing nearby.
The hemostatic powder was also revealed to Prefect Luo Lin by his apprentice.
Judging by the time, many people should have arrived in Ganzhou ahead of schedule by now. It seems that Ganzhou is about to break its peace!
Tang Jian kept a close eye on Lin Zao, fearing that another assassin might suddenly appear if he wasn't careful.
However, this assassination attempt felt more like a test, or perhaps a warning!
Otherwise, they wouldn't have only sent one person!
It seems that the person behind him still harbors some fear of him.
Seeing that all the guests in Qibaoge had left, only a steward-like person dressed in gray brocade robes was left behind, pulling and tugging at the owner of Qibaoge as they walked out.
"Shopkeeper, could I buy these phoenix mirrors in your shop first before I leave? I really need them urgently!"
"No, no! You need to leave now! I have important business to attend to today and the shop is closed for the day. Please come back tomorrow!"
"Shopkeeper, could you please be a little more lenient..."
Seeing the two men pulling and tugging at each other, Tang Jian directly said to the shopkeeper:
"Since the customer has already made his choice, why don't you finish his transaction before closing up shop?"
"This...is the General!"
The shopkeeper only released the customer after Tang Jian spoke.
The guest, a general, pleaded on his behalf, and he quickly bowed to Tang Jian.
"This must be the renowned General Tang of Anbei from Ganzhou City, right? It's a pleasure to meet you!"
“I am the steward of the Wang family in Yaozhou City. This double phoenix mirror was requested by my master. I had no choice but to haggle with the shopkeeper like this. I hope General Tang will not take offense.”
The steward originally intended to go back with the shopkeeper to pay, but his gaze inadvertently fell on Lin Zao behind Tang Jian, and his eyes widened immediately!
Pointing at Lin Zao, his face filled with horror, he said, "You...you weren't...dead, were you?"
Seeing this, Tang Jian stepped aside, blocking his view, his eyes turning cold:
"Oh? Does this gentleman know my wife? And you dare to curse her to die?"
The butler snapped out of his daze and quickly shook his head.
"No, no, General, you misunderstand! I only offended your wife because this lady looks so much like my master's fiancée. Please forgive me, General!"
Tang Jian's voice was like a thousand-year-old glacier, seemingly angry but not truly angry:
"Fiancée? What's your master's fiancée's name?"
"This... my master's fiancée's surname is Lin, and she is the third young lady of the Lin family in Yaozhou. Her given name is... Lin Zao!"
"Bang!"
Tang Jian kicked the man to the ground!
"You've mistaken me for someone else! Get out of here right now!!!"
