Chapter 9 Doing Dangerous Things

Lin Zao spent one tael of silver to rent a house not far from the clinic for half a month.

Then she went to a clothing store and bought a few more outfits. After all, her clothes couldn't be too special. She mainly bought clothes for the two children, while the clothes she brought from modern times were all for adults.

The clothes I wear underneath are fine, but I still can't just take out the clothes I wear on the outside.

After tidying everything up, Lin Zao saw that it was getting late and hurried towards the clinic.

When Lin Zao arrived at the inner hall of the clinic, Tang's mother was talking to the two children. When she saw Lin Zao come in, Tang's mother finally breathed a sigh of relief. It was good that everyone was alright!

"But everything went smoothly?"

"Everything's ready. I've rented a small courtyard. I'll take you there now!"

After Lin Zao finished speaking, she helped Tang's mother up and carried her out of the inner hall with the two children. The stroller was still inside the pharmacy. She put Tang's mother directly into the stroller, and the two children sat down as if they knew the way, right next to their grandmother.

Although Tang's mother was curious about the board she was sitting on, which looked like a cart but wasn't quite, she held back from saying anything.

Lin Zao looked around but didn't see the old doctor, only the young doctor, so he went over and asked...

"Young doctor, is your master here?"

"Greetings, Madam! My master has been summoned to make a house call and I don't know when he will return. Is there anything I can help you with, Madam?"

"It's alright, my mother and I are about to leave. We'd like to ask the young doctor to help us get the medicine, and I've already prepared the money!"

Lin Zao took out some silver and handed it to the young doctor.

"Please wait a moment, Madam. The pharmacist gave instructions before leaving. I'll give it to you now. If you need anything, you can come to the pharmacy to find me anytime!" The young doctor turned around and took out several packets of packaged medicine from under the medicine cabinet and handed them to Lin Zao.

Lin Zao accepted the thanks, then turned and pushed Tang's mother and the others out of the pharmacy and back to their temporary rented house. It was already getting dark.

The house only has two rooms, a kitchen, and a small yard, which is acceptable for the few of them living there.

After helping Tang's mother to bed to rest, Lin Zao quickly took the two children to the kitchen to prepare a meal. Everything had already been prepared, so the cooking would be quick.

Lin Zao took out some snacks from her spatial storage for the two children to eat first. Since arriving in the city, none of them had eaten anything, and the two children were probably starving.

Although Hu Tou and Ya Ya had been hungry for a while, they didn't cry or fuss. They were used to being hungry; they would eat if there was food and go hungry if there wasn't.

Seeing the two children eating obediently, Lin Zao quickly steamed rice, cooked three dishes and a soup in half an hour, and even prepared Tang's mother's medicine.

Stir-fried tomatoes and eggs, stir-fried pork, stir-fried potato slices, mushroom and chicken soup, and a large bowl of white rice are all laid out on the dining table.

Looking at the sumptuous dinner on the table, the enticing aroma of the dishes, and the burning candles.

The two children leaned over the table, drooling as they looked at the food. Lin Zao felt a surge of warmth and emotion. From the death of her family to the apocalypse and now, she finally had a new family again.

With a goal in life, there's no need to worry about zombies suddenly attacking, and no need to be afraid to sleep all night.

"Please sit down first. I'll go and bring Grandma over so we can have dinner together, okay?"

The two children kept nodding, their eyes fixed on the dishes on the table. They had never seen so much delicious food before, and it smelled just as good as the congee with preserved egg and lean pork and the steamed eggs that their mother had made yesterday.

Lin Zao chuckled and took out another candle, lit it, and went to Tang's mother's room.

"Mom, are you awake? Dinner is ready, let's go eat!"

Tang's mother hadn't actually fallen asleep. She didn't know how long it had been since she had eaten, and her stomach was empty. The aroma of the food that Lin Zao had been cooking had made her stomach rumble, and she tossed and turned.

"How can I fall asleep? What did Zao Niang cook? It smells so good it's making my mouth water!"

"It's just some home-cooked food, Mom, eat more later."

Lin Zao carried Tang's mother to the dining table outside and sat her down. The two children were already sitting obediently.

Looking at the lavish meal on the table, Tang's mother felt as if she were in a dream. She had never eaten such a sumptuous meal in her life, especially during the years of famine when she hadn't tasted meat.

Tang's mother looked at Lin Zao with some hesitation. What had this child done? Where did she get so much food and meat? She couldn't even recognize the bright red scrambled eggs, and there was also a lot of white rice!

"Zao Niang, what's going on? Don't let anyone fool you and make you do anything dangerous!"
