Chapter 15 A Guest Comes to the House

Liu Yuhan entered the space, washed up, applied medicine to her forehead, ate something, and drank a bottle of milk. She opened the herbal medicine collection that Doctor Liu had given her. It looked like most of the names were similar to those in the Shennong Herbal Classic, though some of the names she had never seen before might be slightly different.

If you want to understand this dynasty, you have to go to a bookstore. The characters here are similar to traditional Chinese characters.

The original owner had learned to read from her mother. Apart from Liu Guang and Liu Lu, the original owner was the best at learning. She was also smart and patient, and all her brothers and sisters trusted her.

Set the alarm clock and go to bed, and have a dreamless night.

As soon as the sky was getting light, Liu Yuhan prepared breakfast.

I heated up the steamed buns I bought yesterday and cooked a pot of porridge. Everyone had a boiled egg. Liu Yuhan wanted everyone to eat eggs today, and the adults also needed to supplement their nutrition.

Children should not learn to take things for granted. They should be made aware of the hard work of adults and understand the difficulties their parents face. If they want to get better, they must first strive to do well.

Today, the village chief divided the villagers who went up the mountain into two teams. One team followed Liu and Liu Yang to identify and collect herbs. This pair of women mostly participated.

One team, led by Liu Shihu and Liu Zhuang, continued their search for and digging of Chinese yams. Liu Daling took Liu Xiaoman to the market to buy water bags for the group. Old Lady Jiang and Mrs. Li led the remaining women and elderly villagers to weave straw and bamboo mats.

The village chief, Liu Yuhan, and Liu Shinan went to Old Xu's house together. Liu Shinan was carrying a medicine box.

Xu Fugui had a fever again in the middle of the night, so Old Xu gave him some medicine, wiped his body, and changed his clothes. By morning, he looked much better. A moment ago, he had gotten up and drank half a bowl of porridge, then fell into a deep sleep after taking the medicine.

Liu Shinan asked the village chief and Old Xu to go out, closed the window, and closed the door in front of them.

Village Chief, Old Xu...

Liu Yuhan took out a thermometer and asked her father to take Xu Fugui's temperature. She then turned on a flashlight, donned a mask and disposable gloves, and slowly removed the gauze. The cleaned wound still looked red and swollen.

Liu Yuhan continued to disinfect him with hydrogen peroxide, then applied erythromycin and bandaged him with clean gauze. His temperature was 37.8 degrees Celsius, a hypothermia, but his condition was stable.

After tidying up and opening the door, Liu Shinan asked for a bowl of warm water and fed Xu Fugui two penicillin V A tablets and two cephalexin tablets. He also told Old Xu to give him more salt and sugar water.

I had wanted to ask him to get some nutritious food for Xu Fugui, but seeing how poor his family was, I thought, let's save our lives first. I agreed to come back to see Xu Fugui in the evening and then went back.

An hour later.

Liu Yuhan was processing herbs in the yard when he saw a carriage coming towards them.

The coachman asked, "Excuse me, is this Miss Liu Han's home?"

"It's me. What can I do for you?" After hearing what she said, the driver walked to the carriage and said a few words inside. Then he saw a woman and a boy getting off the carriage. They turned out to be the mother and son who were at the door of the drug store yesterday.

"Sister, sister, mom and I are here to see you!" The little boy ran towards her.

Liu Yuhan greeted the women and children while opening the gate and asking them to come in.

Liu Yuhan welcomed the woman into the main hall and asked Xiao Si to call her grandmother back from the backyard. They were both straightforward people, so after Old Lady Jiang and the woman got to know each other, he went to the kitchen to prepare tea for them.

The weather was hot, so I took out a bottle of green tea from the space, poured it into a few clean bowls, and took them out.

The woman is Qin Yan, and her husband's surname is Yan, who is a bodyguard. A few days ago, she and her eldest son and others helped someone transport goods to the county town, and they should be on their way back.

Yan came from a merchant family, and her parents gave her a lot of dowry, so she lived a relatively comfortable life.

Yesterday, Yan was parading with her youngest son. On the way, she bought some candied haws. Her son accidentally choked on some and nearly died. Fortunately, Liu Yuhan came to his rescue. Otherwise, the consequences would have been disastrous.

The Yan couple doted on their son in their old age, and they had to come here today to express their gratitude for saving their life.

Yan asked the driver to take out all the things in the carriage, including old and young things, mostly food.

Yan knew she was from Liujia Village and guessed that food was the most scarce thing during this famine, so she brought two large bags of flour and rice, two pieces of fine cotton cloth, and two large pork legs. She also gave Liu Yuhan a jewelry box.

Old Mrs. Jiang repeatedly refused, saying that there were too many things and she absolutely couldn't do it. Yan refused to put them back. Liu Yuhan returned the jewelry box to Yan.

"Thank you for your gift, Madam. We'll accept the food and cloth, but I absolutely won't accept the jewelry box. I saved your son yesterday out of my own good will, Madam. Please don't take it to heart."

What a heartfelt statement.

Originally, the gift was generous, indicating the intention of severing this connection. Now, seeing their attitudes, especially Liu Yuhan, despite coming from a farming family, her speech and actions were graceful and well-mannered, with a measured approach and even knowledge of things others didn't. She was so outstanding, so her family must have good character.

Good character is worth making close friends with.

Yan took the jewelry box and said nothing more. She picked up the tea Liu Yuhan had prepared on the table and drank it. The tea was not only beautiful in color, but also sweet in taste. Not bad, not bad.

Liu Yuhan listened to Yan's talk about the current situation. Her husband was a bodyguard and knew more about the outside world. Liu Yuhan also revealed to Yan the severity of the drought and the importance of stockpiling food, water, and medicine. Yan thought about it and nodded, deciding to spend more money on it when she returned.

Yan's youngest son, Qin Yu, was having a great time playing with Xiao Si.

The toy was a bamboo dragonfly made by my older brother. Qin Yu had never been to the countryside before, so she thought ants, dragonflies, and even caterpillars were very interesting and fun.

He was even interested in the grass they placed in the yard and asked what it was. Liu Yuhan told him that it was a medicinal herb.
