Chapter 204 The Underground Palace of the Ancient Kingdom

The tiny reflection did not escape Zhong Muyu's eyes. She carefully approached it with the light on, and then she saw clearly that it was a small glass bead.

The glassmaking technique is currently only known to the artisans in the Prince's Mansion. In addition, Zhong Muyu once put a glass bead on Lu Ziyuan's purse, so she firmly believes that the bead must belong to Lu Ziyuan!

An excited Zhong Muyu immediately rummaged through the surrounding grass and found a few more tassels not far away. Since Lu Ziyuan's things were here, did that prove that he had passed by here?

Following this direction, Zhong Muyu slowly walked forward, but unexpectedly, she stepped into thin air!

Seeing a large hole in the lush grass, Zhong Muyu accidentally fell into it.

"ah!!!"

The lights disappeared from the scene along with her scream. She hadn't gone far when a few soldiers who came out to gather firewood heard her scream.

"Why was there a woman screaming just now?"

"A woman? The only woman in this desolate wilderness is the Princess Consort, isn't she?"

At this point, the group looked in the direction of the sound, but there was no one there.

They rushed back to the camp, but as expected, they did not see Zhong Muyu.

Seeing their recklessness, Cao Lin asked, "Have you encountered a ghost?"

"Commander, have you seen the Princess Consort?"

"Your Highness? Isn't she resting here?"

"I heard a woman scream outside just now, but when I came back I didn't see Her Highness the Princess. I'm afraid something has happened."

Upon hearing this, Cao Lin immediately called out to the people around him, "Where did you hear that sound? Go check it out!"

...

Inside the cave, Zhong Muyu rubbed his sore bottom, got up, and looked around.

The hole wasn't deep, and the weeds cushioned her fall, so she wasn't injured. However, she couldn't climb up on her own and needed a ladder.

Just as she was about to take a ladder from the space and climb up, the situation next to her caught her attention.

The surrounding area was a solid layer of hard soil, but there was one spot where the soil seemed to have been filled in later. Zhong Muyu quietly approached and, with a flick of his hand, easily pried off a piece.

She quickly poked at it a few more times, slowly revealing a smooth arch.

Zhong Muyu wondered if there were other secrets hidden inside this cave.

With a thought, she took out a shovel and quickly started digging. In just a few strokes, she dug out the hole behind it. After digging it all out, she found an arched opening that was half a person high.

Zhong Muyu shone her flashlight inside. It was pitch black, and she couldn't see anything, but she could feel the wind. Since there was wind, there must be another exit, so she mustered her courage and went in.

At first, the cave entrance was very narrow, but after walking a short distance, a deep abyss appeared. Zhong Muyu hurriedly stopped, shone a lamp on it, and was instantly shocked.

The ground is not high above the small opening, but the space is made of stone bricks, and there are still remnants of statues nearby.

A thought flashed through Zhong Muyu's mind: this might be an ancient tomb.

It was very deep inside. It was said that some ancient tombs had hidden weapons to prevent tomb robbers. Zhong Muyu dared not go forward alone anymore. She turned around with difficulty, intending to go back and get help.

After returning the way she came, she heard a voice calling her from above.

So Zhong Muyu immediately shouted at the top of her lungs, "I'm here!"

Following the sound, the group quickly found her. Cao Lin breathed a sigh of relief: "Your Highness, are you alright?"

"I'm fine."

"Then I'll pull you up right away!"

"etc!"

Zhong Muyu stopped him: "Cao Lin, there's more to this cave than meets the eye. I have a feeling it's not simple. You should bring a few people down to take a look."

As she spoke, she deliberately stepped aside to make way for the hole, which was more than half a person's height.

Cao Lin asked, "Have you gone in and looked around?"

"I saw it, but it's very big inside. I guess it might be an ancient tomb, and I was afraid there might be traps, so I didn't go in rashly. But I think, the terrain here is so vast that you can see the end at a glance, yet General Zheng searched many times and couldn't find anyone. It's hard to say that they might have hidden in a place like this."

“Your Highness is right. Why don’t you come up first, and I will take some men to scout ahead?”

"No need, I'll stay here. You guys go scout ahead. If everything's alright, I'll go in and take a look too."

"Alright, then we'll do as the Princess says."

Now that Cao Lin knew Zhong Muyu's temper well, he didn't try to persuade her any further and led a few people downstairs first.

Just after they landed, Zhong Muyu produced several small flashlights from somewhere and distributed them to them one by one.

"The space inside is cramped, and candles and torches are inconvenient, so we use this."

Cao Lin looked puzzled: "You carry so much with you?"

Zhong Muyu smiled ambiguously and said, "It's better to be prepared."

Fortunately, Cao Lin didn't investigate further, and under his leadership, a group of people went inside first.

A short while later, a soldier returned: "Your Highness, Commander Cao said it's safe inside. Please bring a few people in as well."

Zhong Muyu nodded, then called a few more people and crawled into the small hole.

After she jumped, Cao Lin and the others were already waiting there. When they saw Zhong Muyu, he immediately went forward to protect her and make sure she wouldn't get hurt.

"Your Highness, there are no traps here. In my opinion, this is not an ancient tomb, but a ruin?"

"remains?"

Zhong Muyu looked around again. She didn't know what the ancient tombs here looked like, but if we're talking about ruins, this didn't seem like a place where people lived.

Cao Lin nodded: "That's right. More than three hundred years ago, there was a Yuhua Kingdom here, which later perished due to war. Perhaps this is the ruins of the Yuhua Kingdom. If so, then there won't be any traps or mechanisms, and we can proceed with peace of mind."

As Zhong Muyu walked, she looked at the weathered carvings. Perhaps there was a story here, but she had no heart to appreciate it now.

The underground palace was very large, and it looked like it was built for escape or storage of supplies. Everyone walked forward with the wind when suddenly someone shouted from the shadows, "Your Highness!"

Zhong Muyu turned around blankly and met a group of equally bewildered people, until a figure silently appeared from the shadows beside her.

Upon recognizing the person, Zhong Muyu instantly became excited: "Zhiyu? Is that you?"

"It's me! It really is the Princess!"

Zhong Muyu hurried over. Zhiyu looked disheveled and looked like she had been there for a long time.

"What are you doing here? Where are the Prince and Chengfeng?"

"Your Highness, rest assured, the Prince and Chengfeng are both here, as are some of our brothers. When I heard the noise, I thought the enemy had come here, but I didn't expect it to be Your Highness!"

"Of course, I heard about your affairs and brought people here. Quickly take me to see the Prince!"

Zhong Muyu was eager to see Lu Ziyuan, so Zhiyu didn't delay any longer and led her through several turns until they finally met two guards at the end of the passage.
