On a secluded island where spring reigns all year round, Zhong Muyu wakes up to find herself in front of an unfamiliar wooden ceiling.
Her mind went blank, and a dull ache throbbed. She sat up in a daze and found herself lying in a wooden room.
This is a fairly large room, luxuriously decorated, and fully equipped with all kinds of daily necessities. However, the decorations throughout the room are all made of seashells and corals, giving it a strong seaside feel.
Just as she looked around, she heard the cries of seagulls outside the window, and faintly heard the sound of waves crashing against the shore.
Where is this?
Zhong Muyu thought about it carefully, but her mind was a complete mess. The more she thought about it, the more her head ached, so she had no choice but to give up.
Apart from the name "Zhong Muyu", she couldn't remember anything else.
She wanted to get out of bed to see what was outside, but the heaviness of her belly caught her attention.
Zhong Muyu touched her belly in surprise, and the little life inside seemed to sense her and moved slightly.
She's pregnant?
Zhong Muyu felt like her head was about to explode.
She couldn't remember anything, yet she inexplicably had a child in her belly. What was going on?
I carefully moved to the window. Not far outside was a beach, with people coming and going and children playing. Everything looked peaceful and serene.
The pavilion where she was located was built halfway up the mountain and was quite large. Through the windows, she could see people busy on the boardwalk.
Zhong Muyu was about to open the door to go out when someone opened it first. The person who opened the door was a girl who looked to be about fourteen or fifteen years old, wearing a short-sleeved white shirt and holding a plate of food in her hands.
Upon seeing Zhong Muyu, she was slightly surprised at first, but quickly composed herself and asked cautiously, "You're awake? How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine. Who are you? Where am I? Why don't I remember anything?"
Zhong Muyu rarely saw anyone come over, but the problems in her heart were far more than that.
The girl placed the things she was carrying on the wooden table in the room and gently comforted Zhong Muyu: "Don't worry, the Divine Master knows you have many questions, so he specially asked me to take care of you."
After saying that, she led Zhong Muyu to sit down and said, "You are now in the Spirit Clan, and you are a noble saintess of our Spirit Clan."
Zhong Muyu was somewhat incredulous: "Me? The Holy Maiden? Then what about this child?"
"Alas! This is a long story. You are our Holy Maiden and the wife of our clan chief. However, the clan chief encountered an accident at sea some time ago. You were so grief-stricken that you fainted. Everyone in the clan tried their best to wake you up with dream magic, but the divine master discovered that even if you woke up, you would lose your memory due to excessive grief."
The girl then went on and on about the past of the Spirit Clan, from how her people came to this island to escape the war, to how the clan leader and the saintess fell in love—it was a story full of twists and turns.
Zhong Muyu listened blankly, as if she were listening to someone else's story. This was understandable, as she couldn't remember anything. These things sounded unbelievable, but perhaps they really had happened.
After she finished speaking, the girl looked at her cautiously again: "Did I talk too much? You can't accept it all at once? Don't worry, don't worry, you don't need to think too much. This is your home, you can do whatever you want, there's no need to worry."
Zhong Muyu looked around again. The house was clean and tidy, with nothing that could trigger her memories.
She tentatively asked, "May I visit my husband's grave?"
"this……"
The girl looked at her, then at her stomach, seemingly worried about her health.
"Don't worry, I feel fine. I just want to go see him. After all, I've been in a coma for so long, I'm afraid I won't even be able to attend the funeral."
"Well, the former chieftain was buried at sea, and now his grave only contains his everyday belongings as a memorial. You should understand that."
Zhong Muyu waved her hand: "It's alright, go ahead."
No matter how serious or sad the girl's words were, to someone with amnesia, the former clan leader was just a strange name.
Along the way, Zhong Muyu inquired about the girl's name and background, learning that her name was Ning'er and that she was his servant. Ning'er also kept telling her about the island, and how the islanders would nod and bow when they saw them.
After walking for a long time, they arrived at a secluded beach on the island. Inside the stone wall, there were several tombs of various sizes, which were said to belong to the previous clan chiefs, clan saints and their families.
Ning'er led her to a seemingly brand-new grave. Zhong Muyu quietly bent down and brushed away the dust from the tombstone.
"Your Holiness..."
"It's okay, I don't remember anything."
She stood up calmly, looking at the new grave, her heart as still as water.
“The deceased is gone, Ning’er. Let’s go for a walk. Perhaps if we look around more, I can remember some things.”
Ning'er suddenly became a little nervous and said with concern, "Holy Maiden, you are not feeling well, why bother yourself? There is no rush to restore your memory, we have plenty of time. Right now you should take care of your health and give birth to the child safely."
"I have amnesia, not an illness. Besides, moving around more is good for my health."
Zhong Muyu didn't pay attention to her change and curiously observed her surroundings. Everything here was new, and it wouldn't work to remain unfamiliar. She had to remember things as soon as possible and get to know the people here.
Ning'er had no choice but to follow her. After learning about the general situation on the island, the two sat down to rest under the shade of a tree.
The Spirit Island is very large, and they can't explore it all in a day. Most of the people live in the northeast of the island, which has formed a sizable town. The castle built of stone and wood on the high ground is where Zhong Muyu lived when she woke up.
As Zhong Muyu ate the snacks Ning'er had bought, she fell into deep thought. The islanders were very hospitable and showed her a lot of respect. They had received a lot of fruit along the way.
However, when they looked at Zhong Muyu, besides respect, they also felt a sense of novelty. Did she, as the Holy Maiden, not go out often before?
Thinking of this, Zhong Muyu asked, "Ning'er, what kind of work did I do before? Did I come out often? Did I go outside the island?"
"The work of the Holy Maiden is to perform festival sacrifices, but since your marriage you have no longer performed the duties of the Holy Maiden. Currently, the clan chief and the others are still selecting a new Holy Maiden. Apart from that, all your actions are unrestrained."
Ning'er's cheeks were bulging from eating, like a little squirrel. Zhong Muyu handed her a water bottle: "Eat slowly, be careful not to choke."
Ning'er nodded, and for a moment, Zhong Muyu felt that the scene was somewhat familiar.
But I can't remember.
At this moment, a white figure walked over. Ning'er immediately put down what she was holding and bowed, saying, "Ah, Divine Master!"
