The man led Zhong Muyu and her companion to the living room. After they sat down, Zhong Muyu asked, "May I ask why you're selling this place? From what I've observed, the location of this shop is quite good; it shouldn't be unable to stay in business."
The man sighed, “We were doing well running our restaurant, but who could have imagined that last year’s frost would be so severe, and this year there’s been a drought, leaving us with a lot of debt. We wanted our sons to help pay off the debt, but both of them live in Yuanjing, and they’re strongly urging us to go and enjoy life there, telling us to leave in the next few days. My wife and I have no choice but to try and sell the restaurant, but business has been bad this year, and we haven’t been able to sell it for months. Luckily, you guys came.”
After the man finished speaking, the woman brought up the tea.
Zhong Muyu nodded: "I see. No wonder it looks so desolate. I'm quite satisfied with this place, but I'm not in a hurry to use it. Name your price first."
Perhaps seeing that Zhong Muyu and Zaochun had an extraordinary demeanor, were richly dressed, and were very young, the man immediately quoted a large sum: "This place will cost at least six hundred taels."
Early Spring was surprised: "So many?"
The man said, "This is the normal price. My shop is the largest ordinary shop around Linghai Port. The only shops bigger than this are inns and brothels."
Zhong Muyu shook his head to stop Zaochun, and then said, "I am satisfied with this size, but as far as I know, the shops on the best street in the city cost six hundred taels. Although they are not as big as yours, they are about the same size, maybe two-thirds the size."
Zhong Muyu tapped the table casually: "Besides, you said the market isn't good this year, so how can this place compare to the city?"
