"Are you injured?"
Zhong Muyu was instantly wide awake. She tidied her hair, put on her coat, and went out.
In the secluded courtyard, Uncle Zheng was carried back by strong men from the village.
Several villagers gathered in the room, and the faint sound of Sister-in-law Zheng's anxious sobs could be heard.
In early spring, pushing through the crowd, he asked, "What happened?"

Two small, bleeding holes were visible on Uncle Zheng's calf; he had been bitten by a venomous snake.
An experienced old man in the village was trying to squeeze out the toxic blood, saying as he did so, "This is all I can do. Why don't you go to the city to see a doctor?"
"But the city is a long way away, it takes half a day to walk there, can Uncle Zheng manage?"
"Let's go check it out; being bitten by a poisonous snake is no small matter."
The villagers were talking amongst themselves.
Zhong Muyu stepped forward: "Let me take a look."
