Chapter 5: No food, no sleep.

"Early spring, let's go to the money exchange in a bit!"

Zhong Muyu quickly folded the dowry list and put it inside her underwear. Then she prepared to get dressed and go out.

Early Spring looked bewildered: "What is Your Highness going to the money exchange for? If you are short of money, you can just send me to get it. You don't need to go in person."

"No, no, no, I want to take it all out."

Zhong Muyu stretched out her index finger and gestured a few times.

Early Spring was startled: "All of them? Your Highness, what are you trying to do?"

Zhong Muyu said, "Of course you should keep your money with you. It's safe and convenient to have your money with you. Don't you think so?"

“That’s true, but for everyday expenses, you can just go to the Prince’s office to get the money. Why do you need to use your dowry?”

Do you think the Prince of Ling would let me use his money?

Thinking of that loud and boisterous Lu Ziyuan, Zhong Muyu subconsciously felt that if she dared to spend a single penny of his money, he would eat her alive!

"Let's go, let's go quickly and come back quickly."

Zhong Muyu pulled Zaochun along, and the two of them rode in an oxcart, quietly leaving through the back door.

It was Zhong Muyu's first time riding in an oxcart, and she found it all quite novel. Because Lingqing was close to the war-torn border region, horses were extremely precious, so ordinary people preferred oxen to pull carts. Although the oxen moved slowly, they were very stable, unlike the bumpy ride of a horse-drawn carriage, allowing Zhong Muyu to properly enjoy the scenery along the way.

The Prince of Ling's residence wasn't far from the money exchange, and they arrived in no time. After the two alighted from the carriage, seeing their distinguished attire, the money exchange clerk hurriedly and cheerfully stepped forward to greet them: "Honorable guests, please come in! Are you here to deposit or withdraw money?"

Zhong Muyu gestured for Zaochun to come over, and Zaochun snapped a receipt and said, "Take the money, all 100,000!"

With such a large sum of money, the money shop owner and his assistant naturally dared not be careless. They hurriedly went back to calculate it, and finally took out a large stack of silver notes, put them in a box, and handed them to Zaochun.

After counting the money in early spring and confirming that the amount was correct, the two went out.

Looking at the bustling market, Zhong Muyu said, "It's early spring, there's still plenty of time. Why don't we stroll around the market?"

Early Spring whispered, "No, Your Highness, if the Prince finds out you're showing your face like this, he'll be angry again."

"What are you afraid of? If you don't say anything, and I don't say anything, and the driver doesn't say anything, who will know? It'll only be a short while, let's hurry up."

Encouraged by Zhong Muyu, Zaochun was also getting restless. No matter how mature she seemed, she was still just a sixteen-year-old girl who had grown up in the palace and had never been to the market before.

Zhong Muyu took out a silver note, then secretly hid the silver note box in her spatial storage. The two then swaggered down the road.

There weren't many things in ancient times, but there were still some interesting things. The two didn't buy anything, but Zhong Muyu memorized everything she saw along the way.

When the two returned to the Prince's mansion through the back gate, everything went smoothly. As dusk fell, the aroma of food wafted from the mansion's kitchen.

However, by nightfall, Zhong Muyu still hadn't received her meal.

"What's going on? Did the kitchen staff forget about me?"

Early Spring pondered, "Perhaps the little maid who went to fetch food is playing around. I'll go and check on her."

As soon as Zaochun finished speaking, she stepped into the courtyard and saw a little girl come in with her head down, wiping away tears.

"Qiao'er?"

When the maid named Qiao'er saw Zaochun, she quickly bowed and said, "Sister Zaochun."

"Didn't you get dinner for the Princess? Why are you coming back crying?"

Upon hearing this, Qiao'er began to cry again: "Sister Zaochun, the people in the kitchen said that the Prince has ordered that from now on, our Princess will no longer be served as a royal consort, so they didn't prepare dinner for the Royal Consort. I couldn't stand it and said a few words to them, and then..."

Without saying anything more, one can guess how awful it will sound.

"How could Your Highness do this! No, the Princess Consort must not know about this. Qiao'er, I have a few taels of silver here. Go and bribe them first, at least make sure the Princess Consort has something to eat."

In early spring, he took out a money pouch from his bosom and handed it to Qiao'er.

Unexpectedly, Zhong Muyu's voice rang out from behind: "What can't I know? Why can't I eat?"

Early Spring was somewhat surprised: "Your Highness? Weren't you resting?"

"We're starving, how can we rest? Tell me what's going on?"

In early spring, having no other choice, she told Zhong Muyu what had happened. Zhong Muyu was furious and yelled, "You, Lu Ziyuan, you won't even feed people! You're so stingy and arrogant!"

"Your Highness, please be careful with your words. This matter was likely initiated by the kitchen on its own initiative, not by the Prince's orders..."

“Even if he didn’t authorize it, he still gave that kind of order. If the people below heard it, they would definitely take me even less seriously. So it’s his problem. No, the more I think about it, the angrier I get. Zaochun, find me a stick. No need, I’ll find it myself.”

Enraged, Zhong Muyu returned to her room and immediately retrieved the stun gun from her personal storage space.

Seeing Zhong Muyu brandishing a stick and looking menacing, Zaochun hurriedly stopped her: "Your Highness, please reconsider!"

"I've already thought about it six times! But I'm hungry!"

She pushed aside the early spring breeze and headed straight for the kitchen, with the other early spring breeze following her hurriedly with a lantern.

Lu Ziyuan and Su Zhirou had already had dinner, and the kitchen was tidying up and preparing ingredients for tomorrow morning when Zhong Muyu rushed in.

"Your Highness, Princess Consort."

A group of people gave a perfunctory greeting, then went about their own business.

After catching up in early spring, she did not forget to maintain her composure: "Your Highness is hungry and wanted to see how the dinner is progressing."

The old woman in charge of the kitchen stepped forward and said, "Your Highness, we don't have enough ingredients today, so we haven't prepared any food for you. If you don't mind, there are some leftovers here."
