Chapter 8: No peace and quiet day after day.

"Your Highness, what happened to your hand?"

Lu Ziyuan glanced at the scratches on his hand: "It's nothing, it's alright."

"It's not a problem anywhere, it's just red and swollen."

Granny Wu rushed over in alarm, looking distressed: "It looks like he was scratched. Who on earth dares to treat the Prince like this?"

"It's really nothing, Granny, you may leave now."

Seeing that Lu Ziyuan's expression had turned cold, Granny Wu didn't ask any more questions and obediently withdrew.

On the way, when Granny Wu saw Zhiyu heading to the study, she quickly stopped him: "This old servant greets Guard Zhiyu."

"Granny Wu, you don't need to be so polite!"

Seeing this, Zhiyu quickly tried to help her up.

Although he was a guard, a higher rank than a servant, Wu Mama was, after all, Lu Ziyuan's wet nurse, and he couldn't neglect her.

Granny Wu asked, "Guard Zhiyu, this old servant noticed that His Highness has so many scratches on his hands. What happened to His Highness's hands?"

"hand?"

Zhiyu was taken aback by the question, thought for a moment, and then smiled and said, "It's alright. The prince and princess had a little argument, and perhaps he accidentally scratched himself."

Granny Wu's face darkened. Although she had never met this princess, she had heard about her deeds during this period. In addition, since Lu Ziyuan did not like her, she also had a problem with this princess she had never met.

How outrageous! She even dared to scratch her own husband!

The angry Granny Wu didn't even notice that Zhiyu had already left. She wanted to go see what Zhong Muyu was up to, but before she even reached Xinxiang Courtyard, she saw several bricklayers going in and out.

"This, this is utterly absurd!"

Granny Wu was furious and pulled over a maidservant, asking, "What is Your Highness doing?"

The young maid was startled by the angry Wu Mama and lowered her head to say, "Reporting to Mama, Her Highness the Princess said she wants to build a small kitchen in the courtyard."

"So Your Highness agreed?"

"This... I don't know..."

Granny Wu waved for the maid to leave, and considering the scratches on Lu Ziyuan's hands, she could guess the gist of it.

This is outrageous!

She couldn't stand idly by if the prince didn't care!

On the other side, upon seeing the furious Granny Wu, Lianye did not go forward to greet her, but instead quietly returned to Tingzhi Courtyard and told Su Zhirou what had happened.

Su Zhirou said, "This Granny Wu is the prince's wet nurse. The prince respects her very much. If we can get along well with her, it will also benefit us."

“That’s what I think too. Now that Granny Wu dislikes the Princess, Madam might as well start from this point.”

"That's right, Granny Zhou—"

Su Zhirou summoned her dowry maid, Zhou Mama.

Granny Zhou entered and curtsied, saying, "This old servant is here."

Su Zhirou said, "Go and prepare some nice gifts. I haven't visited Granny Wu yet since I came to the Prince's Mansion."

Granny Zhou immediately understood and said, "This old servant understands. There are several fine brocades in your dowry. How about we take those?"

"Hmm, let's pick out some more suitable jewelry."

After they had chosen their items, they visited Granny Wu in the afternoon.

Granny Wu was somewhat surprised by Su Zhirou's visit. But Su Zhirou entered with a smile, her every move exuding gentleness and grace.

Granny Wu bowed and said, "This old servant greets Your Highness, the Consort. May I ask what business Your Highness has with me?"

Su Zhirou smiled and said, "I heard the prince mention you before, and I've always wanted to visit you. Now that I have some free time, I've come to pay my respects. This is just a small gift, and I hope you won't find it offensive."

After she finished speaking, Su Zhirou stepped aside and saw that Lianye was holding several bolts of brocade, while another little maid was holding several pieces of jewelry.

When Wu Mama saw Su Zhirou's generosity, her eyes immediately lit up: "Oh my, Your Highness is too kind. I am flattered and grateful. Xiao Mei, hurry up and accept it."

Granny Wu happily instructed her personal maid to accept the gifts, and then immediately began to solicitously have tea and water served. Su Zhirou witnessed all of this.

I thought she was some scheming old woman, but it turns out she's nothing special.

That's fine too. After all, she's Lu Ziyuan's wet nurse, so it won't hurt to curry favor with her.

Su Zhirou smiled and said, "The wet nurse is the prince's wet nurse. She works hard to manage the affairs of the prince's mansion. It is only right that I come to pay my respects."

"It's just my duty. Now that Your Highness has settled down and started a family, with such a gentle and proper wife as Your Highness, this old servant can rest easy."

Su Zhirou covered her face and chuckled, her eyes darting around: "You flatter me, Granny. If we're talking about gentleness and grace, I know I'm not as good as the Princess Consort."

It would have been better if Su Zhirou hadn't mentioned it, because Su Zhirou's words reminded Wu Mama of Lu Ziyuan's scratched hand and the bricklayers coming and going. Her face immediately turned cold: "Your Highness is too modest. In my opinion, Your Highness is no match for you at all. Not only did she scratch the Prince's hand, but she also allowed men to enter and leave the Prince's mansion's backyard without permission. She has no manners at all."

Su Zhirou feigned surprise: "How could that be? Although Princess Consort is a bit fiery, how could she possibly harm the Prince?"

"A fiery temper isn't necessarily a bad thing, but being overly spoiled is not good either. Now she even dares to hurt her own husband. Sigh, I don't know why the prince agreed to the marriage."

Wu Mama was unaware of the relationship between Lu Ziyuan and Su Zhirou, so she couldn't understand why Lu Ziyuan would marry the princess if he clearly didn't like her.

Su Zhirou said, "The emperor's order is hard to disobey, and the prince had no choice. After all, the princess is from a prestigious family and is the Jade Princess, so it's not surprising that she has a unique personality."

Granny Wu sneered, "She's just an orphan with no one to rely on. She only has the title of princess. Since she's married into the Prince's mansion, she should behave herself. Her behavior is a disgrace to the Prince's mansion and the Prince!"
