Shen Jing remained remarkably calm, slamming both hands forcefully onto the counter.
She took two bags of dehydrated vegetables out of her backpack.
"I need to discuss a business deal with the base commander; this is a deposit."
Aunt Zhang was dumbfounded. She had seen many people come to the base manager's door, but she had never seen anyone who would even pay two bags of vegetables out of their own pocket.
With all these resources and being so beautiful, why would she want to ruin herself?
"Just tell him that besides dehydrated vegetables, there are also plenty of canned goods."
What? Canned food too?
Aunt Zhang took a deep breath; she almost wanted to sell her son to the girl in front of her.
Her son is quite good too; he's even a squad leader.
“Young lady, actually the base commander went out to find supplies and hasn’t returned yet.” Aunt Zhang paused, then continued, “However… if you have any cooperation plans, you can first tell my… captain, and he can pass them on for you.”
Shen Jing didn't think much of it and said, "Anything is fine."
As long as the goal was achieved, she knew that Aunt Zhang was telling the truth.
She placed two bags of compressed vegetables on the counter and wrote down the time and address to contact her on a piece of paper.
Tomorrow at 10 a.m., at the market.
Aunt Zhang carefully put the address away, staring longingly at the dehydrated vegetables in her hands. What a treasure!
Although it's not hers for now, the base chief is usually generous, so he might give a bag to his son!
After Shen Jing finished dealing with her situation, Gu Yan pulled her along for another walk.
He probably wasn't too keen on going to the lab, since he didn't ask any questions at the service center earlier.
As I was walking, I was stopped by someone.
Shen Jing recognized the person; it was Li Miao, the one who took the little girl away from the quarantine area.
The person Li Miao stopped wasn't Shen Jing. She said to Gu Yan, "It really is you! Gu Yan, what brings you to Y City?"
Gu Yan pulled Shen Jing back two steps; this person's mysophobia and double standards were acting up again.
He looked at Li Miao calmly, "S City is covered by floods."
Although he was merely stating the facts, Li Miao had already been led astray by the idea of nutrient solutions in S City.
This was the sensitivity of a researcher; she immediately exclaimed excitedly, "The nutrient solution in City S, you developed it, didn't you?!"
Before Gu Yan could answer, Li Miao quickly asked again, "To master this ratio, we still need..."
"Are you sure you want to talk here?" Gu Yan interrupted her.
"Oh right, so... are you free?"
Shen Jing had wanted to avoid it, since she could handle cutting down zombies, but she felt sleepy when faced with those chemical formulas.
However, Gu Yan stopped her, saying, "It's only half an hour."
After more than half an hour, he knew that Shen Jing definitely wouldn't stay still.
She was definitely thinking of finding an excuse to leave and then go pick up the dog and take it home.
Only then did Li Miao look at Shen Jing.
She first looked at their clasped hands, then smiled with relief: "I am Li Miao. I used to be Gu Yan's colleague at the same research institute."
That must be the research institute that Shen Jing visited before the apocalypse, right?
Shen Jing nodded. "Hello, I'm Shen Jing."
"So you are Shen Jing..." Li Miao realized.
However, she didn't say much, but instead led the way efficiently.
The laboratory wasn't located in some mysterious ruin, as depicted on television. To avoid disturbing residents of the central area, it was housed in a high-rise building in Zone C.
The interior was brightly lit, making the white walls appear like mirrors.
It's so clean. Walking into the office area felt like stepping back into the pre-apocalyptic world.
The researchers in white lab coats came and went in a hurry, but they were all carrying handwritten notebooks.
It seems that without internet access and a stable power supply, handwritten notes are still the safest option for preservation.
In less than half an hour, Shen Jing felt she couldn't stay still any longer.
Such a place with a strong academic atmosphere is indeed very hypnotic.
But Shen Jing prefers to lie in a completely safe place, where she doesn't have to worry about being dissected.
She didn't know why she was so worried about the dissection issue.
Perhaps the trauma from her past life in the laboratory was too deep, and she was still haunted by Gu Chen...
Shen Jing shook her head vigorously, unwilling to think about the lab.
In the past two days, more survivors have been arriving at the base from other places.
Most of them were on foot, and they were dressed in rags and looked quite disheveled.
Before the apocalypse, they may have had glamorous and respectable jobs, but now they can only flee the bustling city.
Where there are many people, there are more zombies!
They were near the base entrance at that moment.
The mutated zombies have started attacking the vehicles queuing up, including the survivors who were waiting at the entrance.
Some of the people who were not infected were ordinary citizens who, without the protection of a car, tried to force their way into the base.
They screamed and pounded on the door!
"Open the door! You can't leave me here... Waaah..."
"Waaaaah... Mommy, I'm scared..."
"Aaaaaah! Come and bite me! Little brother, run!"
The staff were responsible for the people inside the base, so they had no choice but to close the base gates immediately.
This also means abandoning another group of people.
Zhang Ze lowered his head in a somber mood. He knew that bullets couldn't kill all the zombies outside, but he couldn't ignore the other survivors either!
"Let me go! Are you just going to stand by and watch?" He tried to break free from his comrade's grip.
"What else do you want? You think you're so great at playing the hero? Don't forget your mother's still at the base!"
"Aze, if we let them in, the base will fall like City C..."
There was no need for him to say everything; Zhang Ze understood perfectly well.
Should we save those who have a 50% chance of mutating, or preserve the survivors inside?
