Chapter 296 Dramatic

In the endless night.

Only one car had its lights on on on the road.

The zombies outside have already smelled the scent of humans and heard the sound of wheels rolling over the road, so they are wandering towards this side.

It's because the base arranges to clean up the cars during extremely hot weather; otherwise, the roads would be blocked by abandoned vehicles.

Yang Muyi wanted to participate at the time, since the points were really high.

But then Zhang Zelai advised, "My brother said that everyone who goes out signs a waiver of life and death, and very few people come back..."

Of course, there are supplies guaranteed when you go out, meaning you can eat your fill.

Therefore, many people go out alone to move cars and clear roads.

Some, however, risked everything for their families, only to never return.

Death is all too common in the apocalypse.

So much so that when someone dies, they're simply dead, and there's no one even to collect their body!

There were skeletal remains everywhere, and some of the zombies even had them in their hands, which was extremely horrifying to look at.

Especially at night, even the bravest person wouldn't dare to walk on such a dark road.

If you saw this kind of movie or TV show before the apocalypse, you might think it's nothing special, but now that you're actually experiencing darkness, you're sweating bullets.

But the mysterious mission instructions have already been mentioned.

Refusing the mission will result in immediate death, and will also endanger the people in your team.

Shen Jing quickly looked away and turned to Gu Yan, who was driving: "Although it's dark outside, it's only a little past 4 p.m., so let's not linger and try to arrive by evening."

Stopping halfway through the journey and then having some unforeseen event would be a waste of time.

Gu Yan held the steering wheel with one hand and pointed forward with the other.

"There's a horde of zombies ahead; we'd better take a detour."

Shen Jing took out her night vision goggles and looked, and sure enough...

This is really bad news.

Wasting time on the road is wasting their life points!

Without hesitation, she said, "Let's take a detour."

Shen Jing looked at the electronic map in her hand carefully and found that the surrounding paths were also intricate and complicated.

The main road has been cleared by people from the base, but the side roads definitely haven't.

The only hope is that there aren't many zombies on the road.

But the further they drove, the more Shen Jing's heart sank.

There are just too many wrecked cars, and there are zombies inside and around them. If they delay us, we might not even arrive tonight.

Shen Jing felt she should get out of the car and clear the way.

But Gu Yan stopped her: "Let's ride an electric scooter."

That's true. If Shen Jing takes advantage of the space to throw the abandoned car into it and then throw it out in an empty space, it would be a waste of time.

Instead of doing that, we might as well just keep moving forward.

Although riding a small electric scooter means leaving your body outside, zombies that smell meat might still launch a surprise attack!

Fortunately, Shen Jing and Gu Yan were sitting back to back, using a wooden gun to clear a path and provide protection.

The team worked well together and no other problems arose.

As it drew closer to 6 p.m., Shen Jing glanced at the map and realized that taking a longer route might mean she wouldn't arrive on time.

Just then, Shen Jing heard Gu Yan say coldly, "There is a strange dark figure ahead."

Upon hearing this, Shen Jing immediately turned around with her night vision goggles on, and saw that there was indeed a dark shadow flashing by in front of her!

The shadowy figure wasn't moving very fast, but as the electric scooter got closer, the shadow it cast outside grew larger and larger.

That shadowy figure was huge!

"Let's get off the bus first."

Unlike off-road vehicles, electric scooters don't have metal sheeting for protection.

If they run straight at it, they might be the ones who get hurt.

Gu Yan stopped the car and put his feet on the ground.

But they soon realized that the figure was coming towards them.

With the help of night vision goggles, the two were able to see clearly what the monster in front of them was...

It was a corpse about two meters tall, and strangely, it was headless.

And it seemed to be muttering, "My head...give me back my head..."

Shen Jing felt a chill run through her body. There was no head. Where was the sound coming from?

But to her surprise, Gu Yan reminded her, "Look at its belly."

"..."

Shen Jing saw it, but what she wanted even more was a pair of eyes she had never seen before.

Calling it a corpse is an understatement; it's more like a monster that eats corpses.

Its abdomen was wide open, revealing a human head inside.

There are these things in front of us, and hordes of zombies behind us. We're in a dilemma now.

The corpse was getting closer, and Shen Jing didn't dare to linger. She immediately pulled Gu Yan and ran to the sides.

Gu Yan reacted quickly, following after her while reminding Shen Jing, "It seems to already know we're here."

Isn't that what they're after?

Shen Jing stared at the approaching shadow for a couple of seconds, confirming that it was indeed as Gu Yan had said.

The head inside the belly stared straight ahead, seemingly able to meet Shen Jing's gaze.

She quickly took out a submachine gun from her spatial storage and handed it to Gu Yan.

But Gu Yan didn't answer. Instead, he asked her directly, "The handgun in that corner of the space should be able to deal with it."

Superpowered bullets? Superpowered guns?

But how did Gu Yan know that?

The situation is urgent, and Shen Jing has no time to think about this problem.

Shen Jing raised her superpowered gun and aimed it at the monster.

However, Shen Jing's aim was indeed not very good; she aimed for the head but hit the chest instead.

"Aaaaaah!" Sharp screams filled the path.

In the darkness of night, it not only attracts zombies, but also sounds terrifying.

But some reaction is better than no reaction, right?

"It really is! It wants to escape!"

The corpse was originally intended for Shen Jing and Gu Yan.

However, because of Shen Jing's gun, she could see fear directly in those eyes.

Gu Yan also noticed it, and he immediately gripped the superpowered gun in his hand and fired a few more bullets.

At the same time, Shen Jing did not hesitate at all and opened several guns with Gu Yan.

Neither of them was particularly accurate with their guns, but their hit rate steadily increased as more bullets were fired.

The corpse let out another sharp scream, then suddenly froze, and a moment later fell heavily to the ground.

But after the body fell and remained still, the path was blocked.

Shen Jing covered her mouth and nose, "Put on a mask, it smells awful."

Gu Yan took the mask and put it on, then looked around, trying to find another way out.

[Level 2 Zombie: 1]

Both of them heard the sound.

They exchanged a glance, both feeling that the unfolding events were somewhat dramatic.

"This thing is a level two zombie. It seems the survivors are in danger." Putting aside everyone else, even Shen Jing felt her scalp tingle and her whole body go cold when she saw this kind of corpse.

Not to mention they were even talking about returning the heads.

In the eternal night, there are no ghost stories, but ghost stories are still unfolding!

However, Shen Jing quickly calmed down: "It seems we have arrived in the suburbs of City C."

"Um."

Although it was a longer route, we arrived on time!
