Chapter 86 Sulking

After a simple lunch, the group rallied and got back on track.

They were a temporary team and couldn't compare to professional fishermen.

In fact, fishermen start their winter fishing work at 1 a.m. and by the time they catch the fish it's almost 2 p.m.

For now, we can only keep things simple. After waiting for two hours, we'll try to close the net first.

The net was also pulled in manually, unlike before the apocalypse when there were winches and vehicles were used to pull the winches in.

"Be careful not to let your feet go under the ice."

Everyone was wearing gloves, but the weather was cold, and people were frozen, so their reactions were slow.

Shen Jing was caught off guard and was about to be knocked to the ground by the fishing net.

Gu Yan then grabbed the back of her down jacket by the collar, saying, "Be careful."

Shen Jing felt a pang of guilt upon hearing his cold voice.

Although she didn't know what she was feeling guilty about.

I could only keep my distance and reply softly, "Yes, thank you."

Temperatures can drop to below -50 degrees Celsius. If shoes get soaked in icy water and no emergency aid is received, severe frostbite can easily occur, and in the post-apocalyptic world, there is no medical system to treat it.

When the feet turn purplish-black from the cold, it is very likely that they have suffered "degree IV frostbite". The safest and quickest treatment is amputation!

But let alone rescue, being amputated in the apocalypse is almost the same as declaring someone dead.

Shen Jing nearly fell over, while Huang Yue, who was at the front, was in an even worse state. He almost got pulled under the ice by the fishing net, but luckily the opening was too small for him.

"Brother Huang, are you alright?" Sister Chen called out.

"It's alright! The spiked shoes are quite stable!" Huang Yue said, but a hint of lingering fear flashed across his face.

It's already difficult to exert force on the snow, and Xie Zhizhou was okay in the middle, but the others were more or less exhausted.

Shen Jing wanted to take out the spiritual spring water, but this stuff was even more effective at keeping her hungry and cold than the nutrient solution. If she took it out, she would definitely be exposed!

Gu Yan seemed to have read her mind. "I had the mutated vine go in through another ice cave."

"Now?" Shen Jing glanced warily at Sister Chen and the others.

"I'll stand behind you."

Gu Yan wouldn't care about such details at all, but he was very satisfied with Shen Jing's reaction.

There are some secrets that only the two of them know, and Shen Jing is not as trusting of them as she appears on the surface.

With Gu Yan's help, Huang Yue relaxed his grip on the net, "We can almost see the end!"

Upon hearing this, Shen Jing and the others were eager to go all out.

The mutated vine trembled in the water, supporting the fishing net and lifting it upwards with all its might.

But the resistance of water is simply too great.

Gu Yan moved his fingertips, and several mutated vines formed a hand-like gesture.

Several people moved closer to help with the final tug-of-war.

"one two three!"

After shouting the last number in unison, they all focused their efforts on the same goal.

With a "whoosh," the net was successfully closed!

"Ah Jing, are you alright?"

Only then did Sister Chen have the energy to ask Shen Jing.

She and Xie Zhizhou were both in the middle, which made things much easier for them than for Shen Jing and Huang Yue.

Sister Chen always knew that they were willing to take care of her and her child.

Fish scales swayed on the fishing net, and dozens of fish of different sizes were waving their tails lively.

Shen Jing looked at these fish; they were different from the ones in the space. These were fish she had caught herself.

Shen Jing smiled contentedly and said easily, "It's nothing, I just slipped."

Sister Chen then went over to Huang Yue and asked, "Master Huang, have you gotten your shoes wet?"

Huang Yue took a deep breath before waving his hand, "It's alright, I didn't come into contact with any ice water."

"Oh dear, shall I put it in a bag first?"

Sister Chen took out a plastic bag from her backpack and handed it to them.

Huang Yue had no objection. "Okay, let's take them back to room 2001 first, and then we'll distribute them together."

While they were collecting the fish, Shen Jing took out binoculars from her backpack and peered at the vast, white frozen lake.

She had just vaguely sensed unusual energy fluctuations nearby using her mental power.

When they tried to explore further, they found that they couldn't reach it at all.

The mutated vine in Gu Yan's hand had long since disappeared.

He looked in the direction Shen Jing was moving and tapped his finger in the air.

Shen Jing noticed his movements as well, and took two steps over, whispering, "You noticed too?"

"Hmm, wood-type crystal cores." Gu Yan was a little surprised. "The location where the two crystal cores appeared is too coincidental."

"Because of the outstanding people and beautiful scenery?" Shen Jing answered casually.

Because the conversation was about crystal cores, Shen Jing intentionally distanced herself from the three people who were pretending to be fish.

Even if she caught the fish herself, she still wanted the crystal core more.

As she was talking, she didn't even realize that she had followed Gu Yan's footsteps and arrived behind the arched bridge.

At this point, she could detect it more clearly: the energy fluctuations were coming from deep within the forest on the other side of the arch bridge.

Unfortunately, Shen Jing was not confident that she could find the crystal core in the past.

She could only detect a general area.

Gu Yan kept his eyes on Shen Jing, his expression unreadable as he watched her longing for the crystal core.

He wasn't in a good mood, and stared into her eyes with a stern face, saying, "What makes you so eager to advance?"

Was it to kill him?

But she didn't seem to have that strong murderous intent towards him.

So what exactly is the purpose?

She was the only one with superpowers in the apocalypse, so there was no need for her to risk her life to upgrade her powers!

Shen Jing said directly, "Of course it's for self-preservation."

There was no need to ask such a question, and hadn't he been urging her to quickly reach SSS rank? But Gu Yan's expression was so sour that she had no choice but to explain her fainting as, "'Control' is such a useful skill, I overdid it..."

"But... it went too far?" Gu Yan glared at her.

"Um……"

Shen Jing was speechless after being glared at.

As a top-tier fighter with unparalleled combat prowess, he simply didn't understand.

Just as she thought this, Gu Yan suddenly lifted her head and bent down to hug her.

Shen Jing opened her arms, and as he moved, she stiffened her neck and raised her head, not knowing where to put her hands.

She couldn't help but turn her head to look, hoping that Sister Chen and the others wouldn't see her.

Fortunately, the arched bridge blocked their view.

Shen Jing pushed him away, "Let go of me."

Gu Yan's cool and aloof aura lingered around her.

Their posture was very intimate, and this intimacy reminded Shen Jing of some vague memories.

After hearing her words, Gu Yan knew that she simply wanted to practice her supernatural abilities.

Instead of trying again to leave this world by dying!

He whispered in her ear, "Ah Jing, Ah Jing, it's okay if you don't remember."

—As long as you don't leave!

After he finished speaking, he hugged her even tighter.

His mood seemed to be improving.

The aura of "keep away, strangers will be killed" that I had when I first left the community was gone.

However, what Shen Jing couldn't understand was that Gu Yan's embrace was too familiar and natural...

It made her feel that they had experienced a closer relationship in their previous life.

Those... memories she had forgotten.

One person remembers it and cherishes it carefully.
