An Hongdou shook her head and said that she was not tired. The smile on An Delai's face became noticeably deeper.
"I just heard you tell your second aunt that you have something to talk to me about?" Ande asked.
An Hongdou nodded and told him about her encounter with Cui Dashan today. Then she said directly, "Second Uncle knows that I am a lazy person. If I work hard in the fields for a whole day, I am afraid I will not be able to hold on. So I thought it would be good to help out in the cowshed."
Ande Lai nodded after a moment of thought and said, "It's not impossible for you to go if you want to. Your Uncle Cui has been there for many years and he won't bully a little girl like you. But there is one thing I must tell you. When you get there, you must work hard and don't push all the work to your Uncle Cui just because you are my niece."
He didn't expect his niece to be very capable, but at least she had to be similar so that outsiders wouldn't say he was biased towards his family.
When An Hongdou went out, An Maixiang was still reading a book at the door.
She attended high school last year and is the most educated child in the family. She originally studied in the county.
But during the Cultural Revolution in recent years, the county's high schools began to suspend classes, and she didn't want to join those students in making trouble, so she simply hid back in the village.
An Hongdou walked in front of An Maixiang, and the light in front of her was blocked. An Maixiang then looked up and asked, "What are you doing?"
They are the same age, An Hongdou is only one month older than her, but their lives are completely different.
An Hongdou grew up in the village. Relying on her father's great strength and her second uncle's reputation as the team leader, she was a bully in the village, if not a bully of boys and girls.
But An Maixiang was different. She had been living with her relatives to study since she was seven or eight years old. She seldom came back except during holidays and she was not very familiar with An Hongdou.
However, every time she came back, she would hear about what stupid things An Hongdou had done, and she felt ashamed too.
At this moment, when she saw An Hongdou standing in front of her, she subconsciously thought that she was here to cause trouble.
However, she didn't know that when An Hongdou opened her mouth, she was surprised for a long time.
"I want to borrow a book from you. Chen Xiangzhi said he wants to teach me how to read. Do you have a suitable book to lend me?" An Hongdou grinned, and her originally dark complexion made her teeth look particularly white.
"Yes, I'll find it for you." Because she was too surprised, An Maixiang tripped when she got up.
Fortunately, An Hongdou helped her up, thus avoiding the embarrassment of her falling.
Textbooks were scarce, so An Maixiang shared most of them with others, but she also had a few of her own.
She searched for a long time before she found an elementary school Chinese textbook that she had hidden away in the bottom of her box.
After An Maixiang took it out, she handed it directly to An Hongdou without any unnecessary words.
An Hongdou felt that the other party might not want to talk to her any more, so she simply thanked him and left.
She didn't know that a long time after she walked out, An Maixiang looked at the textbook in front of her and couldn't read it anymore.
An Maixiang stopped her busy mother and asked, "Mom, why is An Hongdou acting so weird?"
You've grown up so much and now you're talking about learning to read.
Moreover, she did not even attend the literacy classes held in the village in the past few years.
Just like my aunt, she said that since we have to work in the fields for a living anyway, there is no point in studying. Didn’t we see that all the educated youth were literate, but they were still assigned to the countryside to work in the fields?
"What's so strange? When a girl grows up and gets married, she should be more sensible than before!" Miao Hong didn't take it to heart. It wasn't her child anyway. Their two families had always been close. An Hongdou was more sensible, so she could get benefits and could only be happy.
Since her own mother said so, An Maixiang, who had no family affection with An Hongdou, didn't say anything.
In fact, the reason why the two of them didn't get along before was mostly because the original owner was looking for trouble.
They are cousins and are of similar age. Every time An Maixiang comes back, people can't help but compare them.
Of course, no matter from which aspect, the original owner was not comparable at all, which made her extremely upset and she disliked An Maixiang.
In order to bully An Maixiang, she tore up her homework and put caterpillars in her shoes, causing An Maixiang to be stung on the soles of her feet and unable to walk for a long time.
Because of this, when Old Man An attacked the original owner for the first time, Old Lady An had a big quarrel with him.
If it weren't for Mrs. An's protectiveness towards her daughter, the original owner would have been beaten to death in secret for what she had done.
But that was all many years ago, and even in the original owner's memory, it had become very faint. If she hadn't seen An Maixiang today, she wouldn't have remembered it.
After returning home, An Hongdou secretly washed her face with facial cleanser in the yard, looked in the mirror, and put a layer of black mask on her face before entering the house.
Fortunately it was dark, otherwise Mrs. An would have been scared to death by her.
She lay in bed and calculated the time. When enough time had passed, she got up to wash her face.
Mrs. An, who had been listening to the noise behind her, opened her eyes and turned around to ask, "Hongdou, you are tossing and turning and not sleeping. What are you doing?"
What he didn't expect was that in the moonlight, a large dark face came into her eyes, and Old Lady An screamed in fright.
"Mom, what's wrong?" An Hongbing in the west room heard the voice, quickly put on his shoes, walked out, lifted the curtain on this side and came in.
Then, he was also frightened by An Hongdou's face.
"Brother, it's me." An Hongdou said helplessly.
When she came back, everyone was asleep. There was no electricity or lights in the village, and she didn't tell anyone about her facial mask.
Who would have thought that this would happen!
"Little sister, what's wrong with your face?" An Hongbing's voice trembled.
What he was thinking in his heart was that his little sister was originally ugly, but she used to be pretty good-looking. But now her face was really frightening.
An Hongdou reached out and wiped off the black spot on her face. "Isn't this just a facial mask? I didn't tell you because you were all asleep."
If she had known this earlier, she might as well have said hello first.
"Facial mask? What is that?" Old Mrs. An also sat up and asked her confusedly.
“I’m too dark, so I found some plants in the mountains that can make people whiter, then I crushed them and applied them on my face.” In fact, she grew an aloe vera, purified the essence inside, added the mask powder in the space, and applied it on her face.
The mask should be green, but without light and it was dark at night, it appeared black to them.
"If you find it yourself, can it be useful?" An Hongbing walked forward a few steps, stretched out his hand and touched An Hongdou's cheek, poking off a black thing that felt like wet flour, and then he believed it.
