Chapter 5: My Own Fault (2 / 2)

Wen Dafu snorted sarcastically, "Did I ask Liu Xiaoling to push my daughter? Did I ask Ding Guihua to throw dirty water on my daughter?"

"Alright." Liu Qingliang said in a negotiable manner, "Dafu, I also know that you treat your daughter like the apple of your eye."

Wen Dafu patted his chest and said proudly, "Of course." His daughter was his sweetheart.

Liu Qingliang choked for a moment, then continued, "Look, the Liu family will pay a total of 40 yuan, including what you just mentioned..." This was the first time he heard of something else besides medical expenses.

"Nutritional expenses, mental damage compensation, lost wages..." Liu Baogen, the number one lackey, continued.

"Yes, all those fees together amount to forty yuan in total," Liu Qingliang added.

When he heard the price of forty yuan, Mr. Liu gasped and almost fell to the ground. Fortunately, Liu Sanmu helped him up.

He wanted to say that he disagreed, but seeing the warning and impatience in Liu Qingliang's eyes, he swallowed the words of disagreement and nodded silently.

Wen Dafu quietly looked in the direction of Wen Wan and asked with a questioning look: Girl, is it okay?

Wen Guan blinked repeatedly to indicate her agreement. She realized that forty yuan was the bottom line of the Liu family. If they wanted more, they would probably not be able to afford it even if they risked their reputation.

"Village chief, I'll listen to you. It'll be forty yuan." Wen Dafu's face was full of reluctance.

The onlookers said: "Wen Dafu is really shameless."

When Old Lady Liu heard the answer, she rushed into the room without waiting for Old Man Liu's instructions, fearing that Wen Dafu would ask for more money again.

In just a minute or two, Old Lady Liu came out with a roll of scattered money of varying denominations in her hand.

The Liu family members looked unhappy and stared at the money, wishing they could snatch it and put it in their own clothes bags.

Seeing that Old Lady Liu was hesitant to give it to her, Cui Yulan stepped forward and stretched out her hand to pull it, but it didn't move.

"Aunt Liu, if you keep pushing, you'll tear the money into pieces. We don't want it."

Old Mrs. Liu's heart was bleeding. Seeing Cui Yulan's fake smile, she was even more frightened. She immediately loosened her hands, fearing that if she was a second late, the other party would do something weird again.

The onlookers all looked at Cui Yulan's hands, their eyes full of jealousy and envy.

"Ahem..." Wen Dafu coughed twice and cleared his throat, "Village Chief, Uncle Liu, let's forget about this matter today for now. From now on, your child should stay away from my home."

After saying that, he turned around and walked away with the Wen family in a swagger.

Seeing that Wen was no longer interested, the onlookers also went back to their homes, laughing and joking, and occasionally turned back to mutter to the Liu family.

Liu Qingliang sighed, frowned and said, "Uncle Fugui, marry a virtuous woman, your family..."

He couldn't say the rest of the words. Liu Sanmu was hardworking, but this wife he married was a troublemaker.

The yard becomes cooler when people leave, and the Liu family's yard is so quiet that you can hear a pin drop.

"That's enough." Mr. Liu bent down and picked up the broken wood. "Hurry up and clean it up. We have to go to work later."

Li Xiaohua, the eldest daughter-in-law of the Liu family, gritted her teeth and said, "I only earn a few cents a day working. Even if I work myself to death, my Guiming still can't afford to marry a wife this year."

It has been agreed that the eldest son will get married this year. He has already chosen a girl and is waiting for the matchmaker to propose marriage after the busy farming season.

If we give out forty dollars now, how much money will be left in the house?
