Chapter 11: Home

Chapter 11: Home

As new houses rose from the ground, the appearance of the Silver Moon Tribe changed dramatically. The houses were neatly arranged in an orderly manner, with wide roads in the middle. The entire tribe was well planned.

However, Lin Chen noticed that the interior of the newly built house was empty and lacked necessary furniture and living facilities.

"A house is not just a place to shelter from the wind and rain, it should be a home," Lin Chen told the construction committee. "We need to make furniture to make life more convenient and comfortable."

Canglan asked curiously, "What is furniture?"

Lin Chen used charcoal to draw a diagram of a bed, table, stool, and storage cabinet on the stone slab: "These are tools that make life more convenient. The bed allows us to sleep off the damp ground, the table and stools allow us to eat and work without squatting, and the storage cabinets allow us to better organize things."

Hong Yan immediately saw the value: "Especially the storage cabinets! The clutter of tools and items has always been a problem."

Berry was concerned about practicality: "Making these requires extra materials and manpower. Will it affect the progress of house construction?"

Lin Chen had already thought it through: "We can use leftover construction materials and our spare time to make it. And once we have furniture, our life efficiency will be improved, which will save us time."

The first batch of furniture was made in the open space in the center of the tribe. Lin Chen first demonstrated how to make a simple wooden bed: using thick wood as the frame and thin wooden strips woven into the bed surface, about a foot off the ground.

"Sleeping off the ground can avoid moisture and insects, and better maintain body temperature." Lin Chen explained, his hands moving non-stop.

The orcs were responsible for felling and processing the wood, while the sub-orcs were responsible for weaving the bed and polishing the surface. Among the members of the Liuhe tribe were elders who were skilled in carpentry. They quickly mastered the skills and taught everyone how to make a stronger mortise and tenon structure.

Sisters Yunxia and Chenlu are particularly passionate about making furniture. They are careful and skillful, and the beds they make are smooth and beautiful.

"This is the first bed I made!" Yunxia proudly showed her work to everyone, "I'm going to sleep on it tonight!"

Tables and chairs are relatively complex to make. Lin Chen designed a variety of styles: simple tree stump stools, chairs with backrests, and foldable portable tables. He also innovatively designed multifunctional storage cabinets with compartments of varying sizes for categorized storage.

The most popular is the "kotatsu" designed by Lin Chen - a low table with space underneath for placing charcoal in a ceramic pot, where the whole family can sit around and keep warm during the cold season.

"This design is so clever!" a mother with a young child said gratefully. "The child always feels cold at night in the cold season, and this keeps them much warmer."

Furniture making not only improved the quality of life, but also unexpectedly promoted the development of tribal handicrafts. More and more people showed their talent for making furniture and even began to innovate designs.

An old orc from the River River tribe wove a chair with a padded back out of flexible vines; Gale designed an adjustable table; and Berry taught everyone how to make the first soft cushions by stuffing animal hides with hay and feathers.

Canglan observed all this silently, and one evening came to the work area where Lin Chen was busy.

"I made this for you." Canglan said sheepishly as he took out a carefully crafted wooden chair with a wolf and star pattern carved on the back. "Thank you for everything you've done for the tribe."

Lin Chen took the chair in amazement, finding it incredibly comfortable and stable, with exquisite details. "This is amazing! Did you make it yourself?"

Canglan's ears turned red: "I have been learning from the master for a long time, and I want to give you a surprise."

Lin Chen was deeply moved: "This is the best gift I have ever received."

As furniture became more common, life within the Silvermoon Tribe changed significantly. People no longer sat on the ground, but now gathered around tables to share their time. They no longer slept directly on the ground, but now had comfortable, dry beds. Their belongings were no longer cluttered, but now neatly stored in lockers.

Elder Shi Yan was filled with emotion as he toured the tribe: "Before, we were just surviving, but now we are truly living."

Even more surprising is that with the improvement of their living environment, the health of the tribal members has improved significantly. Joint pain caused by moisture has decreased, infections caused by insect bites and stings have dropped significantly, and even the children are sleeping better at night.

As night fell, warm firelight lit up in the new houses of the Silver Moon Tribe, illuminating the cozy scene of families gathered together through the carefully crafted doors and windows. In the center of the tribe, even larger construction projects were being planned—Lin Chen had already drawn up the designs for the assembly hall and artisan workshop.

In this walled tribe, a new civilization is quietly sprouting. Lin Chen, a soul from another world, is using his knowledge and wisdom to gradually change this primitive world, and the lives and destinies of everyone within it—including the silver-gray-eyed hunting captain.
