Chapter 69 March
"So, you two are the two centurions Orius Luca and Orius Andrew?"
The trumpeter continued to question us with his tentative weapons, even though we were both wearing very obvious centurion horned helmets on our heads.
"Yeah, that's us two."
"Oh, that's good. I'm so sorry!" The trumpeter apologized to us repeatedly with a smile on his face and explained, "We were asked by Marshal Aetius to find you two, so I was just being safe. I didn't mean to offend you."
It feels different to be a centurion. Even the tone of voice when people talk to us has become much softer.
The horn player was at a loss, not even knowing where to put his hands. Fortunately, he didn't have pockets. The horn player was so nervous that he seemed to be panicking before he could even say two words.
"Let them come and sit down."
Now it was my turn to give orders. Although I had a smile on my face and looked calm, I was actually so happy in my heart that I was almost jumping up and dancing.
"Oh, good! Good!"
The trumpeter finally came to his senses and turned back to greet the two centurions. They sat down in a big circle around Andrew and me, which made me feel much safer and prouder.
Not long after, a carriage arrived at our camp. The driver got off and said to Guy, "Sir, I'm here to take the wounded. Are there any wounded soldiers?"
"Yes!" Chief Centurion Guy echoed, casually pointing at the soldiers sitting behind him who were bandaged and had lost their combat effectiveness. The coachman understood, took two steps forward and shouted, "Hey, wounded, get on the carriage, I'll take you to the medical center."
Because most of those who were missing limbs had been executed with honors, the rest were wounded with only flesh but no bone injuries. They were helped onto the carriages one by one, and everything seemed to be in order.
“Children!”
Chief Centurion Guy looked at them all with a smile and said, "Go back and recuperate. I'll wait for you on the new battlefield!" These words really benefited the audience in the car. They waved goodbye to Chief Centurion Guy with tears in their eyes.
"Andrew, how about I help you go?" The carriage was about to leave, but Guy didn't notice Andrew, or maybe he did it on purpose. While the carriage was still there, I quickly tried to help Andrew up.
"No, that's not necessary, Luca." Andrew rejected my offer, and just sat down and said to me, "I don't know when I can come back after this trip. Anyway, I finally got the rank of centurion, how can I just leave so casually without enjoying it?"
Damn it! I screamed in my heart. You are already so injured, you don't need to hold on like this, the desire for power can really devour your heart, it's not that I care about you, you said you are with me every day, if you are infected with rabies and bite me, who can I go to for justice?
"Hey, Andrew, you better go, it's okay, you've got your helmet on!"
"No!" Andrew looked at me righteously, "Lu Jia, my injury is not serious at all, you don't have to worry about me!"
I'm really not worried about you, I'm worried about myself! I explained it over and over again in my heart, but I didn't dare to say it out loud. I could only endure it and hold the words back in my stomach.
Andrew stood up again, tried to move his injured right arm, showed it to me, and said proudly: "Look, Luca, I told you, I'm fine!"
Of course I know you are fine, but I am afraid that you may have a hidden illness.
"Okay, Luca, you don't know, since I got this helmet," Andrew pointed to the horned helmet on his head, looked at me mysteriously and said, "My arm doesn't hurt anymore, and the bruises on my body from the fight just now don't hurt anymore!" Looking at Andrew's flushed face, if the injured arm hadn't been bleeding from the layers of tightly bandaged bandages, I really believed this guy.
"Whoops! Whoops!"
A hurried whistle was blown by Chief Centurion Guy just as the carriage carrying the wounded soldiers had just gone away.
"Okay, we've rested enough!"
In fact, this period of time did not last very long, at most only half an hour! What was the meaning of calling everyone to stand up in such a hurry?
With such doubts in mind, I slowly stood up, wanting to see what this guy was up to.
"Get up!"
Guy felt that his call was not enough, so he yelled again, calling on the soldiers around him to stand up. The soldiers were very afraid of the chief centurion, who they originally thought was full of bad intentions, because of Amor's fate. Who dared to disobey his orders? "Come on, stand up."
I also called out to the soldiers sitting around me, and waited until everyone stood up and lined up again. I felt very fortunate about this, because at least it showed that they had all received training, and they did not need to be trained painstakingly like a group of new recruits.
"Where did you fall from?" I whispered to my trumpeter.
"Sir, we were transferred from the 8th Comrades Corps." The bugler answered very carefully, fearing that he would miss anything.
The latest novel is published first on Liu9shuba!
"Oh, then, your legion commander must be very dissatisfied, as well as your former centurion. Oh, I forgot." I smiled and scratched my head. "Aetius is your legion commander. Internal transfers are normal."
"No, that's not the case!" The trumpeter waved his hands and said to me, "Our legion commander is Littorio, who was just transferred here."
"What? Who did you just say?"
"Littorius, one of Marshal Aetius' most proud generals." The trumpeter introduced him to me in more detail.
Littorio, isn't this the commander of the Seventh Gemina Legion? How come he is not dead! To be on the safe side, I asked, "How did you transfer Littorio here?"
"Haha," the trumpeter laughed and said to me, "That's the former commander of the Gemina Legion! You are a member of the Gemina Legion, but you don't remember your former commander!"
It turned out that this guy was not dead. I quickly turned around to see where Andrew was. Fortunately, this guy became a centurion and couldn't wait to use his centurions. So Andrew didn't hear this. Well, it's best not to let him know!
"Then listen carefully!" I lowered my voice and said to the trumpeter, "Don't tell anyone about this topic, especially Centurion Andrew."
"What's wrong, sir?" The bugler looked at me in surprise. "What's the problem?"
"No, no, no," I couldn't tell him to shut up, because that would only arouse his curiosity and make the situation even worse. I had to find a new excuse, one that would convince him.
"Uh," my mind raced, "It's just that Littorio took a fancy to a piece of land of his family and occupied it. Now Centurion Andrew hates him very much. If you bring it up, he will punish you. Don't blame me!"
