Chapter 84 Spend Time Together

Chapter 84 Spend Time Together

The raindrops gradually became sparse, as if all their strength had been drained away, hanging obliquely in the air.

A notice came over the radio from the temporary command center that a safe passage had been cleared on the main road leading to the ancient town, and vehicles carrying relief supplies could enter in batches.

Si Yankai stood up almost the moment the broadcast stopped. Looking at the people coming and going in front of him, his fingers gripping the phone loosened, then quickly tightened again. He turned around and strode towards the SUV parked not far away.

When he started the car, his knuckles turned slightly white from the effort.

Slowly follow the construction vehicle leading the way in front and always keep a safe distance.

In the rearview mirror, other rescue vehicles were following one after another, and their headlights drew long strips of light on the wet road, like a string of sparks trying to penetrate the rain and fog.

The car drove over a newly cleared section of road, and the tires made a slight sound as they rolled over the gravel.

Traces of fresh soil can still be seen on the mountain walls on both sides of the road. Occasionally, loose stones roll down and are stopped by the protective nets on the side of the road.

Si Yankai's eyes were always on the front, and the car was driving steadily but not slowly - he wanted to arrive quickly, but he also had to ensure safety.

My phone vibrated on the center console. It was a message from Tang Ximian. It contained only a single photo: Under a gray sky, the green-tiled roof of the guesthouse lay in ruins. In the corner, a few figures in raincoats were patching up a leaking eaves. There were no words, but it felt like a silent message of safety.

Si Yankai stared at the photo for two seconds, then typed three words on the screen: "I'm here."

When the notification of successful sending popped up, the car just turned a corner and the outline of the iconic stone arch bridge at the entrance of the ancient town could be vaguely seen in front.

He took a deep breath and lowered the car window a crack. A damp wind rushed in, mixed with the scent of earth and grass.

The rain was still falling, but it was so light that there was no need to avoid it.

The ancient town in the distance gradually became clear in the rain and fog, like an ink painting that slowly took shape after being wet.

Si Yankai stepped on the accelerator and the car drove steadily towards the place he had been concerned about for a long time.

As soon as the car passed the stone arch bridge, Si Yankai saw the green-tiled B&B in the photo.

I couldn't wait to unbuckle my seat belt, push open the car door, and walk quickly inside on the bluestone slabs that had not yet dried.

The rain has stopped, and the air is filled with the smell of damp earth. Occasionally, drops of water slide down from the eaves and hit the puddles, splashing tiny ripples.

In the yard of the B&B, several volunteers were working together to move the fallen wooden frame.

Si Yankai's eyes swept across the crowd, and when he saw the familiar figure in the corridor, his steps suddenly stopped.

Tang Ximian was with his back to him, bending down to help an old man tie the belt of his raincoat.

He was still wearing the light grey coat he had worn when he set out, with mud on the cuffs. His hair lay softly on his forehead, the ends still damp.

Perhaps he heard footsteps, so he turned around.

The moment their eyes met, the surrounding noise seemed to be muted.

Tang Ximian had clearly not expected to see him here. A flicker of surprise flashed across his eyes, followed by a complex mix of emotions, like ink soaked by rain, thick and indissoluble. He opened his mouth, as if about to say something, but in the end, he simply stood there, watching Si Yankai approach.

Si Yankai stopped in front of him, his eyes fixed on his slightly pale face, then glanced at his hands that were subconsciously pressing on his abdomen, his Adam's apple rolling slightly: "I'm coming."

There were no extra greetings, but these three words seemed to carry warmth, burning Tang Ximian's nose. He turned away, looking at the people busy in the yard, and said in a muffled voice: "Didn't I tell you not to worry?"

"How can I not be worried? My little boyfriend."

Si Yankai's voice was very soft, but extremely clear.

He raised his hand, brushed away a fallen leaf from Tang Ximian's shoulder, and took out a tissue to wipe the stains off his face.

"Does your stomach still hurt? I brought some medicine."

When Tang Ximian turned her head, her eyes were a little red.

He looked at Si Yankai's rain-soaked jacket, and the fatigue and concern that could not be concealed in his eyes. He suddenly smiled, with a sense of relief after surviving a disaster: "Why are you acting like a stubborn child?"

"I learned it from you."

Si Yankai also smiled and handed over the medicine box in his arms. The packaging still had his body temperature. "Go take a pill first. I'll take over your work, okay?"

Tang Ximian took the medicine box, and her fingertips touched his palm, which felt a little warm, and her heart gradually calmed down.

In the distance, the rescue team cheered, perhaps rescuing another trapped person. The sun finally broke through the clouds, filtering through the wet leaves and casting dappled shadows on the bluestone slabs.

No matter how long the darkness lasts, please believe that the sun will always rise tomorrow. Even if it still rains tomorrow, there will be different levels of rain.

Persevere a little longer and you will eventually see a ray of sunshine.
