Chapter 38 Spend Time Together
The sunlight outside cast tiny spots of light on the dinner plates as the two sat facing each other.
Tang Ximian took a bite of the French croissant, the crisp sound mixed with the sound of Si Yankai stirring the coffee.
The morning light slanted across his lover's angular jaw. He swallowed the food in his mouth and couldn't wait to tell him about the adventure he had just had.
Si Yankai rested his elbows on the table, supported his chin with his slender fingers, and stared intently at the person opposite him with a beaming face.
When Tang Ximian mentioned the jade pendant and the meaningful advice, he suddenly chuckled and his knuckles unconsciously stroked the gold rim of the coffee cup.
"Do you know who this Grandma Rong is?" Tang Ximian tilted his head, his amber eyes full of curiosity.
Si Yankai deliberately kept the question a secret, raised an eyebrow, and asked, "What's Mo Ziyan's grandmother's last name?"
This sentence was like a key, instantly opening the secret compartment deep in Tang Ximian's memory.
The young man sat up straight, his hair trembling slightly as he moved. "Oh, that's right! Mo Ziyan's grandmother's last name is also Rong. Are they related?"
"If I'm not mistaken, the Grandma Rong you met is Grandma Mo Ziyan's sister."
Si Yankai took a sip of his coffee, the rich aroma spreading between his teeth. "They and our grandparents have been close friends since they were little."
Tang Ximian's eyelashes trembled slightly, and her fingertips unconsciously drew circles on the tablecloth: "Then why haven't I seen her before? Has she settled in Country Y?"
The wind outside the window lifted the gauze curtains, bringing in a few wisps of air with the scent of flowers, which gently brushed across his calves.
Si Yankai put down his coffee cup, and the metal cup and saucer made a crisp sound. "I heard from the elders before that something happened to them when they were young, and she came here across the ocean."
He paused, his gaze fixed on the frizzy hair on his beloved's head. "But she met the person she would spend her life with here, and she's also built her own family. It's just that across the mountains and seas, it's hard not to miss her."
"She must be very lonely then." Tang Ximian lowered his eyes, thinking of the slightly hunched back of the silver-haired grandmother when she turned around.
"Not really." Si Yankai reached across the table and gently rubbed the boy's hair. His fingertips brushed against his ear, leaving a warm touch. "But even the most perfect life will have regrets, even across thousands of miles."
Tang Ximian suddenly raised her head, her eyelashes brushing against Si Yankai's palm: "How do you know so clearly?"
"Idiot." Si Yankai withdrew his hand, the warmth of his fingertips still carrying the softness of Tang Ximian's hair. "From the moment you stepped out of the door, someone was secretly following you. When you met Grandma Rong, the results of the investigation had already been sent to my phone."
He said it calmly, as if it was a matter of course. "Otherwise, how could I let you run around on your own?"
"So that's how it is! Don't blame me, I'm just not thinking straight lately!!"
Tang Ximian glared at him. Seeing Si Yankai handing her a glass of milk, he naturally took it and quickly shifted his attention to the new topic, "So where are we going to play later?"
Si Yankai's lips curled up in a familiar arc, his eyes filled with anticipation: "Do you want to try paragliding? Overlooking the city's coastline from high above?"
"Really? But I can't!"
Tang Ximian's eyes were sparkling, she felt a little expectant but also a little uneasy.
"I have a professional license." Si Yankai stood up and walked around the table, sitting down next to the boy, his warm breath brushing against his ear. "I'll be with you the whole time, okay?"
This bewitching ending made Tang Ximian blush. He stood up suddenly, and the chair made a light sound on the floor: "What are we waiting for! Let's pack up and go!"
The morning light shone through the floor-to-ceiling windows onto the two people's clasped hands, causing the jade pendant on the table to glow softly, layer upon layer.
