Chapter 96 Spend Time Together

Chapter 96 Spend Time Together

[When I was little 2]

On the second day after moving into the new home, the afternoon sun was still warm, and Tang Ximian was taken by the nanny to a nearby small park to play.

After the swing swung a few times and the castle in the sandbox was only half built, the nanny suddenly remembered that there was soup cooking on the stove at home. She hurriedly told him, "Go home when you've had enough fun," and left in a hurry - she had completely forgotten that this was only the child's second day in the new home.

Ximian obediently waited until the sun set. One by one, the children on the playground were picked up by their parents, and finally he was the only one left.

He silently brushed off the sand stuck to his trouser legs, picked up the teddy bear on the bench, and decided to find his way back based on his memory.

The street was gradually shrouded in dusk. Streetlights came on one by one, lengthening his small shadow.

He saw many children held hands by adults, and heard the gentle questions, "Are you happy today?" He couldn't help but purse his lips and quicken his pace. But the more he walked, the stranger the surrounding scenery became. The outlines of his memory completely disappeared. He stood at the crossroads, at a loss.

The wind grew stronger, and he hugged the teddy bear in his arms tightly. It was his only company.

Finally, at the end of a quiet path, he saw a house with a warm yellow light. He mustered up the courage to walk forward, but lingered outside the carved iron gate for a long time before he tiptoed and rang the doorbell.

The person who opened the door was a tall uncle with deep brows and a serious expression.

Xiao Ximian looked up, and all the mental preparations she had made collapsed in an instant. Her voice was as thin as a mosquito's: "I, you... Hello, uncle, I..."

The wind was too strong, and the man seemed not to hear clearly. He frowned slightly and uttered a questioning syllable: "Huh?" He was about to lean over - but the little guy was frightened by his subconscious expression, and his eyes quickly turned red, filled with shaky tears.

"Dad, who is it?" A curious voice came from behind the man.

Then, a little boy poked his head out from beside the man's legs, and his eyes were immediately attracted by the fair-skinned child at the door, whose nose was red from the cold and who was holding a doll and trying hard to hold back his tears.

"Huh? Where did the doll come from?"

"What doll?" My mother, wearing an apron and holding a spatula in her hand, also came over when she heard the sound.

As soon as she saw the pitiful Xi Mian at the door, she immediately understood and hurriedly pulled the child into the warm house.

The warmth in the house and the aunt's gentle tone made Ximian feel a little relieved.

He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand and tried to sound calm: "Hello, Auntie, I... I can't find my way home. Can I borrow your phone to call my brother?"

"Of course, good boy, sit down first." Mother Si responded repeatedly and led him to the sofa. "Husband, go and pour a cup of hot water." She turned to her son and instructed, "Yankai, accompany the little guest for a while."

The little boy named Si Yankai pretended not to care and continued watching TV, but his eyes kept secretly glancing at the stranger who suddenly appeared and was as delicate as a porcelain doll.

Ximian held the warm cup of water in both hands, sipping it. Si's mother quickly brought over her phone. He expertly dialed the number he'd memorized, listening to the long, drawn-out wait tone, each one striking a chord with his heart.

The phone was finally picked up, and a clear yet slightly tired voice came from the other end: "Hello, hello, who is this?"

"Brother, it's me, Mianmian." Hearing the familiar voice, Ximian's persistence suddenly cracked, and she let out a barely perceptible sob.

Tang Li's tone on the other end of the phone softened almost immediately: "Is that Mianmian? Why are you calling brother at this time? Are you missing him?"

"I thought about it," Xi Mian answered softly, trying hard to control his emotions, "Brother, I'm at an aunt's house and I can't find the way back. If you're busy, can you ask someone to pick me up?" Although he tried his best to endure it, the grievance and fear were still transmitted through the airwaves.

Tang Li's voice instantly dropped, filled with suppressed anger: "You're not home so late? Where's the babysitter? What does she do for a living?"

But he quickly suppressed his anger, and his tone became gentle and firm again, "Mianmian, don't be afraid. Give the phone to the aunt or uncle next to you, and I'll tell them. Be obedient, I'll come pick you up right away. Can you wait for me for a moment?"

"Okay..." Ximian's tears finally fell, but this time it was not because of fear, but because of peace of mind, "Brother, I'll wait for you."
