Chapter 78 Spend Time Together
A very light, helpless smile came from Si Yankai on the other end of the phone, as if I could imagine his expression at the moment.
"If you're bored, read a book, or..." He paused, as if thinking, "play games with your friends, play cards? Didn't you say that you have a friend named "Yu Shu" who's terrible at cards and always loses to you?"
"Pfft!" Tang Ximian couldn't help laughing out loud. He raised his head and looked at Yu Shu. Sure enough, he saw an indignant expression on his face that said, "What's wrong with my card skills?"
"Well, he's pretty bad at cards."
Tang Ximian deliberately agreed loudly, which earned him a pillow attack from Yu Shu.
"Hey! Tang Ximian! Who are you calling the bad card player?"
Yu Shu finally couldn't help but protest.
Si Yankai on the other end of the phone obviously heard the noise here and laughed softly. The laughter scratched Tang Ximian's eardrums like a feather, making his ears feel a little hot.
"It seems someone is not convinced? That's great, let him keep you company."
He changed the subject, his voice returning to that reassuring calmness. "If you're bored, just bear with it. Safety first. Wait until the rain subsides, or stops, before going out. Don't be impatient."
"Hmm..." Tang Ximian hugged the pillow and responded obediently.
The sound of wind and rain outside the window didn't seem so scary anymore. The gurgling sound of the electric kettle in the room and the rustling sound of Yu Shu angrily rummaging through playing cards beside him intertwined into a strange sense of security that belonged to the moment.
He asked quietly, "So...what are you doing?"
"In the dormitory, just got back from get out of class."
Si Yankai's voice calmed down. "It's raining hard outside, too, but not as much as you guys over there. It's just the right time to finish the case analysis I didn't finish looking at before."
He paused and added, "Keep your computer on and monitor the weather warnings over there."
It turns out that he has been paying attention to her all along... Tang Ximian felt warm in her heart, as if she had drunk a sip of freshly boiled hot water.
"Oh..." He drew out the sound, his fingers unconsciously picking at the thread of the pillowcase, "Then... do you miss me?" After asking, he felt a little embarrassed and buried his face deeper into the pillow, leaving only the red tip of his ear exposed.
There was silence on the other end of the phone for two seconds.
Just when Tang Ximian thought the signal was disrupted by the wind and rain, Si Yankai's deep and clear voice came over, with an unprecedented, straightforward frankness:
"Yeah. Missed you."
These few simple words were like stones dropped into the lake of one's heart, creating sweet ripples in Tang Ximian's heart, even drowning out the thunder outside the window.
The corners of his mouth couldn't help but curl up, and he let out a few muffled "hehehe" sounds into the pillow, smiling foolishly.
Yu Shu shook off his goosebumps exaggeratedly and slammed the shuffled playing cards on the table. "Hello, hello, hello! Have you had enough of talking on the phone? Do you want to play cards again? If you keep going on like that, I'll be covered in goosebumps!"
Tang Ximian finally pulled her face out of the pillow, mouthed "shut up" to Yu Shu, and said softly to the other end of the phone, "Yu Shu urged me to play cards..."
"Go ahead," Si Yankai said with an indulgent smile, "Be safe. If you have any questions, feel free to call me or send me a message. I always have my phone with me."
"I know. Then... am I hanging up?"
"Yeah. Be careful."
"You too...eat on time."
After the phone call ended, the warmth that had transcended the wind and rain seemed to still remain in the room.
The rain was still pouring outside the window and the thunder was still rumbling, but in the small room, the crisp sound of playing cards being thrown on the table and the bickering and laughter of the teenagers next door had diluted a lot of the anxiety of being trapped.
Tang Ximian picked up the card thrown by Yu Shu, with a smile still in the corners of his eyes and eyebrows.
