Chapter 10: Fortune Telling Proves True, Son-in-Law Murders

Chapter 10: Fortune Telling Proves True, Son-in-Law Murders

He Lihua helped her grandmother walk from behind, while Chu Ci arrived at her own door first.

At her doorstep, Master He was leading a group of nuns, trying to take down the plaque hanging on the door.

Seeing Chu Ci return, she paused, "Everyone, look! That liar is back!"

"You liar, you dare to come back!" She twisted her slightly heavy body to the front of the crowd, pointed at Chu Ci, "It's this liar! I asked her to calculate my daughter and son-in-law's birth charts, and she actually said my son-in-law is a murderer!"

"Grandma Hui has examined the birth charts of my daughter and son-in-law and said that the two children are a match made in heaven. How could she want to break up such a good couple? You bastard!"

She pointed at Chu Ci's nose, her face turning bright red.

Chu Ci slapped her hand away and was about to speak when she heard her grandmother's loud and forceful scolding voice coming from behind her.

"You bastard?! You fat slut, you're the bastard! You think you're so great just because you bully youngsters? Come on, let's fight!"

Grandma grabbed a stick and swung it around. The nuns scattered in panic, staring at the suddenly appearing old lady.

"If you have a foul mouth, be careful it doesn't come back to haunt your children!"

Grandma, her steps trembling, pointed at Master He's nose and began to berate her:

"That old woman Hui you mentioned is a fraud! When I, Sister Dan, came down from the mountain, her little girl was still breastfeeding! In just a few short years, she's become some big shot!"

"You're just a bully who takes advantage of his master's power. Bring your daughter and son-in-law's birth dates and times. Tomorrow, come with me to confront that old hag Hui and see if she dares to change her mind in front of me!"

None of the nuns recognized the old lady in front of them, but it must be said that she had a very imposing presence that completely intimidated them.

It took Master He a while to react after being pointed at and cursed. She pushed the old lady's hand away and said angrily, "So what if we're going to confront each other? Who do you think you are, daring to see through Granny Hui just because you're old!"

She pointed to the plaque above her head, "Let's go confront Grandma Hui tomorrow! If she says my daughter and son-in-law are a match made in heaven, you and this swindler young man will both move out of our building!"

"What if it isn't?" Grandma pressed on without backing down.

“How could it not be! I heard it from Granny Hui myself!” Master He pushed up her glasses and rolled her eyes. “Granny Hui has been famous around here for so long, what do you think she’s relied on? Of course, it’s her reputation!”

Grandma ignored her stubbornness: "If not, then tomorrow you will have to apologize to our Aci in front of everyone here!"

"So you're all from the same family?"

Master He scrutinized the old lady and Chu Ci with a critical look, then curled her lip and said, "Fine, no problem! We'll see!"

After all that commotion, Master He was still angry when she went grocery shopping and came home to cook dinner.

As soon as her husband got home, he heard her chopping vegetables like she was hacking someone to pieces, making a loud "thump, thump" sound on the cutting board. He leaned against the kitchen doorway and asked her with a laugh, "So loud, are you going to take a knife and chop someone up? Who upset you this time?"

"Who else could it be but that charlatan who just moved in on the 15th floor!"

Mrs. He threw the kitchen knife onto the cutting board and continued to complain to her husband.

“Our Mei-yun is getting married, so I definitely need to find someone to calculate her birth chart! I went to Master Hui in Kowloon City before, and she said it was a perfect match, that our Mei-yun and her son-in-law are a match made in heaven, and that their life will get better and better after marriage.”

"Didn't He Lihua's husband get arrested by the police before? He was only released after a master gave him some advice. I saw that this master was so amazing, so I wanted to have my fortune told for Meiyun. Guess what that swindler said!"

She slammed her hand on the table, her eyes widening.

"That liar actually said our son-in-law is a murderer!"

"How ridiculous! Our son-in-law is a murderer?" Master He rolled up her sleeves and went back to the kitchen to continue chopping vegetables, wishing she could chop Chu Ci up like a vegetable.

“Our son-in-law studied abroad; he's handsome, polite, and well-behaved. His parents are cultured and respectable people; how could such parents raise a murderer’s child?”

Master He's husband frowned. "This swindler is talking nonsense. Does he want money?"

"Who knows! Anyway, I've made plans with them to go see Granny Hui tomorrow. They dare to ruin my daughter's good marriage; I'll make them regret it!"

Hearing the growing louder chopping of vegetables, her husband reminded her, "Our daughter and son-in-law will be home for dinner tonight. Don't be angry, go ahead and cook."

Despite her anger, Master He cooked a meal and set the dishes on the table. Her daughter and son-in-law also arrived home.

As soon as she got home, Master He couldn't help but start talking to her daughter about it.

“A charlatan moved into our building recently. I asked her to calculate your and Zhenhao’s birth charts, and guess what she said?”

Her husband quickly stopped her, "Alright, alright, the kids finally come home for dinner together, so don't say anything unpleasant!"

The son-in-law went to the kitchen to bring out the food, and, a little curious about the topic, asked, "Mom, what did that swindler say?"

Watching her son-in-law place the first bowl of rice next to her daughter and then thoughtfully serve her chopsticks, Master He suppressed the smile on her lips and felt even more disgusted with Chu Ci for breaking up her daughter's marriage.

"That liar is completely insane! She actually said Zhenhao is a murderer!"

She grabbed her daughter's hand and talked non-stop, completely unaware that her son-in-law, who was looking down, suddenly changed his expression.

"That's ridiculous! Don't we know what kind of person Zhenhao is? He's a steady and reliable guy, he's considerate and gentle in his dealings with people, and he never argues with anyone. How could he possibly kill someone!"

"Meiyun, you don't know, that liar is about your age, and she described Zhenhao's appearance right away. I bet she's already met Zhenhao and doesn't want you to marry him, that's why she said that!"

"Honestly, these young people nowadays are so cunning, they're like walking knives!"

She rambled on for a while, then her husband stuffed a pair of chopsticks into her hand.

"Alright, alright, let's eat quickly, the food's getting cold!"

Turning her head, she saw that her son-in-law's expression was not good, and He Shi Tai's husband comforted her: "Zhenhao, don't take the liar's words to heart, and don't let those words affect your mood. We all know what kind of person you are."

Wu Zhenhao forced a smile and nodded, "I know, Dad. I don't know that person, so let her say whatever she wants."

Master He and her husband exchanged a glance, becoming even more satisfied with their son-in-law.

Calm and composed, he's a fine young man!

The daughter had finally come back, and Master He kept nagging her. Wu Zhenhao ate a little bit and then said he had a headache. He took some medicine and went to his room to sleep.

Master He was pleased. "Zhenhao isn't feeling well today, so you two shouldn't go back. Stay at home. Let's take this opportunity to have a good talk."

The family of three ate and chatted, but Chu Ci was not doing so well.

On her first day in her new home, there was nothing to cook, so she went downstairs and got some cart noodles to go.

Grandma felt her fighting spirit had declined, and she even reviewed her performance while eating.

She finished the last bowl of rice in one gulp, then snorted heavily, "That fat woman, just you wait! I'll teach her a lesson tomorrow!"

Chu Ci lowered her eyes, concealing the emotions within.

It seems that Master He and her family won't live to see tomorrow.

-

In the guest room of Master He's house, Wu Zhenhao, who had taken his medicine and fallen asleep, suddenly opened his eyes.

Li Meiyun and her mother both suffer from insomnia and usually take their medication around 10 p.m. before going to bed.

Considering that the two hadn't seen each other for a while and might need to chat for a bit longer, he postponed it by an hour and a half, waking up at 11:30 to take action.

He slept on the 16th floor. The room was dark, with only a little moonlight shining in, casting a dark shadow on his back and the floor.

That family had probably gone to bed.

Are you asleep?

He grinned, revealing his gleaming white teeth.

He's asleep now, so he's about to take action.

He pulled a fruit knife from under his pillow, and without shoes, he moved as lightly as a cat across the floor, opening the bedroom door almost silently.

Standing at the door of his father-in-law's room, his shadow fell on the bedroom door, looking menacing.

Since this family already knows his secret, he cannot be allowed to live.

As for that fortune teller who lives on the 15th floor...

He slowly wiped the knife, the sharp blade reflecting his fierce eyes hidden in the night.

That person must die too!

In order to ensure that the subsequent actions could proceed smoothly, he planned to kill his father-in-law, who was considered a greater threat.

He placed his hand on the doorknob of his father-in-law's bedroom door, gave it a gentle twist, and the door opened a crack.

He grinned, revealing his gleaming white teeth.

The old man hadn't locked the door after all.

He quietly pushed open the door and went in. Without hesitation, he stabbed the raised area on the bed twice. Two muffled groans were heard, and bright red bloodstains spread on the quilt.

Feeling the warm blood stick to his hand, his light brown pupils contracted slightly with excitement, and his hand trembled uncontrollably.

The stench of blood gradually filled the bedroom. I couldn't help but rub my palms together, feeling the warm blood on my hands slowly cool down, and every pore on my body became excited.

He left his father-in-law's bedroom, intending to send his mother-in-law and wife away in one go, when suddenly there was a soft knocking on the front door.

Wu Zhenhao paused, his brows furrowing deeply.

Who's knocking on the door in the middle of the night?

I initially thought it was my imagination, but the knocking continued, albeit softly.

He glanced down at the blood on his hands, worried about waking the other two, and reluctantly wiped the blood away, his eyes growing increasingly sinister.

If the goods are delivered, he wouldn't mind sending them to meet God.

Who is it?

He gently opened the door, and to his surprise, there was a very beautiful young woman standing outside.

She stood under the bright lights of the hallway, smiled slightly at him, and her features became radiant in the dim light.

"Hello, is this Master He's house? I told her daughter and son-in-law's fortunes during the day, which upset her. I can't sleep tonight, so I wanted to come and apologize..."

She scratched her cheek sheepishly, "It's so late, is Master He asleep?"

The gloom and ruthlessness in Wu Zhenhao's eyes gradually dissipated, and he smiled brightly.

So she was that fortune teller...

"You're not asleep, you've come at the right time."

He gently opened the door. The darkness behind it was thick and cold, like a gaping maw waiting for its prey to enter.

"Come in, I'll go call my mom."

"I'm so sorry to trouble you." Chu Ci went in with an apologetic smile.

The front door closed with a soft "click".

Wu Zhenhao's smile vanished. He gripped the murder weapon in his hand, stared intently at Chu Ci who was facing him, and slowly raised the knife.

Just as he thrust down hard, the woman seemed to have eyes in the back of her head, and dodged to the side with ease, easily avoiding his sneak attack.

"you……"

Wu Zhenhao's expression changed when his first attack missed.

"Who exactly are you?"

Chu Ci didn't answer him. He pounced over with the agility of a leopard and reached out to snatch the knife from his hand.

Wu Zhenhao quickly slashed at her hand with his knife, but missed again.

It wasn't until he was sent flying and crashed hard onto the coffee table in the living room that he realized the man was using a feint.

She had no intention of taking the knife from her; her original purpose was to kick her.

The various cups on the coffee table clattered and fell to the floor, and soon the noise came from the bedroom.

"What's wrong? What's wrong? You rascal, did you bump into the coffee table again when you got up to use the bathroom last night?!"

Before even opening the bedroom door, Master He had already started muttering to herself.

She opened the bedroom door, and bright light streamed into the living room. She immediately saw Chu Ci standing in the living room and her son-in-law lying in a pile of broken glass.

They were stunned.

"You..." She looked at Chu Ci, then at her beaten son-in-law, and her heart jumped. "What are you doing in my house?"

"Mom!" Wu Zhenhao scrambled to his feet, pointing at Chu Ci and shouting, "She broke into the house and killed someone! She killed Dad!"
