Chapter 106 Part-Time Underworld Employee 002
Chu Ci looked into the fat monk's eyes and, as he wished, saw the fat monk's past and future.
A flood of information came in all at once, including bits and pieces of the fat monk's past.
In addition, she also saw endless darkness.
And almost transparent spirits that wander in the darkness.
And... a familiar bridge suspended in mid-air.
Chu Ci: "..."
She stumbled a couple of times, and someone caught her from behind.
Turning my head, I saw my grandmother, who had appeared out at some point.
Grandma supported her with one hand and carried a broom in the other, glaring at the reporters who had surrounded the shop entrance.
"What are you doing? Just because you have a camera doesn't mean you can be so great!"
She helped Chu Ci stand up, and as she swept the broom across, the cameramen and reporters were all startled and retreated.
The mother and son sat at the shop entrance, refusing to back down, their eyes red as they shouted at the old woman:
"You hit my child and injured him like this, you have to pay for it!"
She roared, "If you don't pay me back, I'll let everyone around know that your whole family is a bunch of liars!"
Since the incident with Zhang the Scoundrel and his mother, Grandma hadn't encountered such an opponent in a long time.
She looked at the mother and son sitting on the ground and burst out laughing in anger.
"Pay us money? Why should we pay us money?"
Before the mother and son could speak, she stepped aside, letting everyone see the glass door behind her.
"As everyone knows, our store is newly opened. You can tell from the location and decoration that we've invested a lot of money!"
"Our glass doors are all imported. You can't even keep an eye on your own child, letting him vandalize our front door?"
"Look what your kid did to my front door! It's all scratched!"
Grandma stood with her hands on her hips, "Our doors are imported, they're very expensive! I don't care, you'll have to pay me back!"
The mother of the naughty child stared wide-eyed at the clean glass door, unable to believe that someone could lie even more blatantly than she could.
She pointed to the large bump on her son's forehead and said, "My son got hurt like this on your door, and you still want us to pay for it?"
"Your son is injured like this because you, as his mother, didn't take good care of him!"
Grandma pointed her finger at her nose, looking fierce, and seemed even more unruly than the mother of the brat.
"You're really something! You can't even take care of your own child, so you expect others to pay you back?"
Do you think other people's money grows on trees?
After saying that, she turned to go back into the house, shouting, "You just wait! I'm going to call the police right now!"
"I'm not only going to inform your husband, but I'm also going to tell your mother-in-law and all your relatives!"
"Let them all see what kind of person you are and what kind of children you've raised!"
"A mother who schemes against others while having a child—you're the first one I've ever met!"
"I will make sure all your relatives and friends are on guard against you, so they don't get scammed by you!"
"You should also let your son's classmates and teachers see what kind of child you've raised!"
The mother of the naughty child: "..."
She almost choked as she listened to her grandmother's accusations.
After years of bullying her neighbors, she's finally met her match today.
Unfortunately, her son wasn't doing a good job at this crucial moment.
She cried and grabbed her mother's clothes, "Waaah, Mom, I don't want to embarrass myself in front of the girl I like!"
He also learned to threaten, "If Grandma feels ashamed and scolds us, I'll say it was you who taught me!"
"If Dad loses face in front of his colleagues, I'll say it's all your fault!"
Nothing can compare to her son's betrayal; the brat's mother is truly furious now.
She stood up and pointed at her son fiercely.
Before he could speak, everything went black, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted.
The cameramen and reporters behind him rushed over to help him up.
They rushed to take the mother of the unconscious child to the hospital.
"I'll take her! We drove here today!"
"I'll deliver it. I have a relative who works as a nurse at the hospital!"
"Let me do it! I have a relative who owns a private hospital!"
"Private hospitals are too expensive, let's go to a public hospital! I'll drive!"
The group argued back and forth, but in the end, nearly ten people went to take the unconscious mother of the naughty child to the hospital.
The remaining reporters and photographers also came up with various excuses:
"Hospitalization is a serious matter; I'll go and check on things."
"I'll go too, I'll go buy a fruit basket."
"Then I'll take you there!"
...
As they left one by one, the fat man widened his eyes and pleaded with them to stay.
"Didn't we agree that everyone would come to film? You've already received the money!"
The male reporter he was holding struggled frantically.
"Master, I'll return the money to you in a bit, please let me go first!"
He gestured for the fat monk to look at Chu Ci, saying, "This master is incredibly powerful. If I offend her, my boss will tear me apart!"
The fat monk's attempts to persuade them to stay were unsuccessful, and the reporters and photographers all left.
The fat monk said "Hey" several times, then turned his head and met an old, angry face.
"Oh, so all these people in front of our house, it turns out it was you who was behind this!"
Grandma, broom in hand and hands on hips, glared at the fat man at the front.
"Don't you have any public decency when you bring so many people to block someone's store entrance?"
"You're so fat, standing here, you completely block the entrance to our shop."
"How are we supposed to do business?!"
Fat monk: "..."
He looked down at his almost shapeless waist.
Her voice trembled with anger: "You...your front door is so wide, how could I be that fat!"
He's a bit fat, but how can he possibly block the door?!
"What do you mean there isn't?" Grandma approached step by step, broom in hand. "You'd better take these people and leave right now, or I'll call the police!"
"Call the police then!"
The fat monk was clearly hurt and stubbornly refused to admit it.
"I'm also going to call the police and sue you for defamation!"
He's not that fat at all!
Grandma said "Eh" and turned around to go back to make a phone call.
"You fat monk, you wait and see what you're going to accuse me of!"
"Never mind, Grandma."
Chu Ci stopped the old woman who was about to leave and looked at the fat monk.
"You can leave now. I don't have the ghost you're looking for here."
The fat monk, however, persisted, pointing to his own nose.
"You think you can just let it go like that? I'm calling the police today!"
"Saying I'm fat? I want that old woman to pay me for emotional distress!"
As he spoke, he pulled a heavy mobile phone from his waist.
His chubby hands were trembling with anger. "I'm going to have the police arrest this old woman!"
Seeing his face trembling with anger, the reporters and cameramen from the paranormal program quickly tugged at his wide sleeves.
"Master, we're still recording a program!"
Seeing Chu Ci's unpleasant expression, the reporter reminded the fat monk with a pained look:
“Master, this Master Chu is not someone to be trifled with! Let’s just forget about it…”
The fat monk shook off her hand, widened his eyes, and pointed at himself.
"Just because she's not someone to mess with doesn't mean I'm someone you can mess with."
He straightened his back and angrily pointed at himself.
"Most importantly, I'm not fat at all!"
"Yes, yes, you're just strong, not fat at all!" the reporter quickly reassured him.
She glanced carefully at Chu Ci's expression and lowered her voice.
"But that master is really not someone to mess with!"
Last time, so many reporters and photographers were waiting outside Master Chu's house, and they witnessed firsthand how amazing this master was.
It's terrifying to be able to see through someone's secrets at a glance!
The fat monk then remembered that Chu Ci possessed this ability, and his entire body of fat trembled.
He looked at Chu Ci, who was staring at him expressionlessly.
"..."
The fat monk's face trembled, and he quickly closed his eyes.
Chu Ci stared at him expressionlessly, "Want to become famous, and you want to drag me into this hype?"
Fat monk: "..."
His face turned pale then red, then pale again, as he noticed that the eyes of the reporters and cameramen who hadn't left were all fixed on him.
The fat monk, held firm by the situation, retorted, "What nonsense are you spouting! I don't understand!"
Chu Ci looked at his small eyes darting left and right, chuckled, and moved aside.
"Didn't you want to go into my shop to exorcise ghosts? Why don't you go in and try?"
The fat monk's eyes lit up.
Grandma quickly grabbed Chu Ci's arm, "Ci!"
Chu Ci shook his head, gesturing for the fat monk to go inside.
The fat monk straightened his back with a cheerful smile.
Those who claim to be masters with real skills are all just empty names!
Since this person gave him a chance, he wouldn't be polite!
He strode in, his wide sleeves billowing, looking proud and confident.
But after taking a couple of steps, he realized that the cameramen and reporters behind him hadn't kept up.
Speechless, he turned his head and complained to the reporters and cameramen of the paranormal program:
"It's one thing for others, but you're the cameramen and hosts of the show! Aren't you coming in?"
The cameraman and the reporter looked at each other, and finally turned their attention to Chu Ci.
Chu Ci smiled and said, "It's alright, you two can go in too."
Reporter and photographer: "..."
Seeing the smile on Chu Ci's face, they dared not go in even more.
In the end, the fat monk lost his temper and dragged the reluctant photographer into the store.
"Quick, quick! Turn on the camera, I need to go in and catch the ghost!"
He took out a compass from the small cloth bag he carried with him. The compass had intricate patterns, and the needle kept turning.
"Is the camera on?"
The photographer's voice was filled with despair, "It's open..."
Hopefully, Master Chu won't be too idle lately, and he definitely won't tell his wife that he's hiding some money in the closet...
"Good, good, it's good that it's open."
The fat monk touched his bald head, straightened his clothes, and then stood in front of the camera.
His expression turned serious, and he became more mysterious.
"Hello everyone. I'm sure you've all heard about the recent high-profile ghost invasion incidents."
"In order to appease the anxious hearts of the people of Hong Kong, I, the handsome monk, volunteered this time."
"Let's invite our paranormal program team to help catch those two evil spirits who destroy homes and cause harm!"
As he spoke, he took two steps back and stood next to Chu Ci, allowing Chu Ci to also be included in the shot.
"Many viewers are probably familiar with this master."
"This is Master Chu Ci from the spiritual medium and incense shop in Kwun Tong District! Don't let Master Chu's young age fool you, he's very famous in this area!"
After praising Chu Ci, he gave a malicious smile.
"However, what surprised me even more was that our Master Chu, who has such a good reputation, was secretly raising evil spirits!"
"That's right, I found the handsome monk at Master Chu's house... Hey! Where are you taking pictures!"
The fat monk was so angry that he jumped up and down when he saw the cameraman suddenly point the camera elsewhere.
"What are you doing, buddy! Can't you respect your profession?"
"I haven't finished speaking yet, why are you filming somewhere else? What's here?"
He stood in front of the camera and said, "There's nothing here!"
Holding a microphone, he said angrily, "If your program's reporters don't want to come in, fine, I'll be the host myself, and you're still causing trouble."
"Don't do that, buddy, we've already signed a contract!"
"If you keep doing this, believe me, I'll go to your boss and demand compensation for breach of contract!"
Photographer: "...Then you should contact him."
He believed his boss would rather pay the penalty for breach of contract than offend Master Chu, who was renowned even in the journalism world.
Fat monk: "..."
He almost laughed out of anger at the photographer's negative attitude.
But for the sake of his future, he tried his best to suppress his anger.
"We've already signed a contract, so why can you just terminate it like that?"
"I don't care what you think, you're going to take good pictures today!"
As he spoke, he turned the camera over.
Just as he was about to speak while standing next to Chu Ci, the camera secretly moved away again.
Fat monk: "..."
Just as he was about to lose his temper, Chu Ci, who was beside him, spoke up.
"It's okay, just keep taking good pictures."
As she spoke, she smiled at the fat monk.
"There's nothing here that I can't photograph."
The fat monk chuckled, inwardly cursing, "Silly girl."
But on the surface, he was very warm and friendly, saying, "I didn't expect Master Chu to be so frank. I misunderstood you just now."
He patted his chest and guaranteed, "If you appear on the show with me this time, I guarantee you, Master Chu, will become incredibly famous!"
But whether it's purplish-red or blackish-red is none of his business!
He was overjoyed and waved to the photographer.
"Did you hear that? Your idol, Master Chu, told you to film properly and stop causing trouble!" she said irritably.
The photographer glanced at Chu Ci, who smiled gently at him.
Relieved, the photographer focused on taking good photos.
The fat monk continued what he hadn't finished saying earlier, "That's right, handsome monk, I found those two evil devils who beat people and destroyed houses at Master Chu's house!"
He smiled, narrowing his eyes, and turned to ask Chu Ci beside him:
"Master Chu, since you are so upright and confident that your house is free of evil spirits, you probably wouldn't mind if I took the photographer to look for those two ghosts, would you?"
Chu Ci leaned against the psychic table and poured himself a glass of water.
"Do as you please."
The fat monk chuckled and waved to the photographer.
"Come on, let's go look for it together."
After saying that, he took the compass and walked straight to a room.
He pretended to look at the compass in his hand, then pointed to the door of that room:
"This is it! Those two evil spirits are inside!"
Just as he was about to push the door open and go in, Grandma widened her eyes and stopped him.
"Hey! What are you doing! This is the studio of our 'Looking Forward to a Lifetime' marriage agency!"
"What right do you have to go in?!"
The fat monk was still thinking about what Grandma had just said about him being fat, and he rolled his eyes at her.
But he looked at Chu Ci with a wicked smile: "Master Chu, are you hiding something and don't want me to go in and investigate?"
"Of course not." Chu Ci put his arm around Grandma's shoulder. "Go in if you want."
She turned to the camera and said, "When the show airs, don't forget to help promote our 'Looking Forward to a Lifetime' marriage agency."
Grandma hesitated: "Aci..."
This fat monk has a sly smile on his face; he doesn't look like a good person at all.
How could he possibly help them promote their products?
But Chu Ci simply shook his head at her and gently patted her shoulder.
The fat monk pushed open the door and went inside. He Lihua was writing and drawing on a board.
Hearing someone come in, she looked up in confusion and met the smiling face of the fat monk.
He Lihua: "??"
She looked at Chu Ci and her grandmother with a puzzled expression. Her grandmother beckoned to her, signaling her to come over.
He Lihua had just put down her pen and was about to go over when she was suddenly stopped by the fat monk.
"Wait, ma'am."
He circled He Lihua twice, muttering to himself, and then clasped his hands together in a gesture of respect.
"I see such a heavy dark aura around you; there must be a ghost haunting you!"
Her response was a wide-eyed roll from He Lihua.
"My family worships Guan Yu, and we burn incense three times a day. What blind ghost would dare to come near me?"
The fat monk said, "That's not right. Those wandering ghosts certainly wouldn't dare, but those that are raised by humans are a different story."
As he spoke, he glanced meaningfully at Chu Ci.
He Lihua could tell that his real intention was not what he was talking about, but Chu Ci seemed to be handling things with ease.
He then asked, "You said there's a ghost around me? Where is that ghost?"
The fat monk put on a compassionate expression and said, "Since you have asked so sincerely, madam, I will rid the people of this scourge today."
As he spoke, he tucked the compass into his robes.
He clasped his hands in a gesture of respect to Chu Ci, saying, "Master Chu, please forgive me!"
His hands flew, quickly forming hand seals.
He then pulled out a peach wood sword from behind his back and began to perform a shamanistic ritual in the house, twisting his chubby body.
Even the old lady standing nearby noticed something was wrong. "Is he Buddhist or Taoist?"
I've never seen either of these two places perform shamanistic rituals!
Chu Ci smiled and gestured for her to continue watching.
Finally, the fat monk, drenched in sweat from jumping, pointed his peach wood sword at a corner.
With a loud shout, he yelled, "Appear!"
A sudden cloud of mist dispersed from the corner of the wall, and He Lihua, who was closest to the mist, immediately changed her expression.
She quickly hid behind Chu Ci and looked closely; smoke was still rising from the corner of the wall.
But there was nothing in the smoke.
The photographer was also startled by the sudden commotion and instinctively moved closer to try and get a clear shot.
However, he stared at the smoking corner of the wall for a long time, but there was nothing there except smoke.
He turned to look at the fat monk, "Master?"
The fat monk, covered in sweat, pointed his peach wood sword at the corner of the wall and shouted, "Show me!"
Smoke was still rising from the corner of the wall.
But apart from cigarettes, there was nothing else.
The cameraman continued to look at the fat monk.
The fat monk's face was covered in even more sweat.
He tried several times with the peach wood sword, but failed each time.
He hurriedly wiped the sweat from his face and gave an awkward, dry laugh.
"Wow, Master Chu has really raised these two brats well. They ran away so quickly!"
Even the photographer could tell that this was an attempt to save face.
Chu Ci leaned against the doorway, gesturing for him to come outside.
"Since you put it that way, Master, why don't we take a look at the other rooms?"
The fat monk nodded repeatedly, "Since Master Chu puts it that way, then I won't stand on ceremony."
As he spoke, he carried the peach wood sword in his hand, wiping his sweat as he walked out.
They searched every room as if looking for something.
Grandma watched his furtive figure and began to grow impatient.
"Hey fat monk, are you ever going to stop? You say our Ah Ci is raising evil spirits, then why haven't you found them yet!"
The fat monk's forehead was covered in sweat, which streamed down his chubby cheeks.
"I feel it! I really feel it! The demon is right here!"
While he continued his search, Li Lecan and Xiao Min, who were in the storeroom, were pressing on the necks of two young female ghosts.
They pressed the two ghosts to the ground and ravaged them.
Xiaomin grabbed one of the female ghosts by the hair and shouted, "Tell me! What mischief are you up to, sneaking around in the shop like this?!"
She yanked hard, and the hair was in her hand, but the ghost on the ground was still face down.
"Um?"
She looked at the large clump of hair in her hand with a puzzled expression, then frowned as she looked at the "female ghost" on the ground.
The "female ghost" slowly turned her head.
With a high nose bridge, red lips, blue cheeks, and strong features, he was clearly a man!
"You're not a female ghost?!" Xiaomin exclaimed in surprise.
Li Lecan quickly pulled the hair of the "female ghost" that he was pressing down on, and with that pull, the hair fell down.
The other person awkwardly turned their head, revealing themselves to be a male ghost wearing a wig and makeup!
Li Lecan: "..."
She almost laughed out of anger at the two men.
He grabbed the male ghost beneath him by the hair and cursed:
"Wow! I thought that monk outside had some real skills, speaking so confidently."
"So it was all planned out in advance, with the two of you waiting here!"
"If we can't catch the ghost, we'll just have the two of you take the blame!"
With a sudden exertion of force, the male ghost beneath her let out a scream.
Li Lecan: "You just wait, we'll have our master kill you in a minute!"
Outside the door, the fat monk's clothes were soaked with sweat from front to back.
He wiped his sweat with his wide sleeves, muttering to himself:
"That's not right! It shouldn't be like this, where did those two go..."
Seeing that he had visited every room, Chu Ci smiled and spoke.
"It seems that the master did not find any evil spirits in my house."
She gestured for us to eat, saying, "It's getting late, we should have dinner now."
"If you two have nothing else to do, why don't you leave now?"
The fat monk was so embarrassed he didn't know which way to go. Hearing this, he wished he could disappear into the ground.
He chuckled awkwardly, "Yes, yes, I misunderstood Master Chu."
As he spoke, he slipped out of the shop first.
The cameraman followed behind, and just as the two emerged, Chu Ci's leisurely voice rang out from behind them:
"Now that it's already filmed, I look forward to seeing the edited version on TV."
Fat monk: "..."
He was about to refuse when he heard a loud "Okay" from beside him.
Turning his head, he saw that the photographer next to him was extremely excited.
The reporter, who was with the photographer, walked over excitedly and looked at Chu Ci with surprise:
"Master Chu, would you be willing to let our radio station broadcast the video recording of this shoot?"
Doesn't that mean their program was the first to get Master Chu to make a public appearance on his own initiative?!
Chu Ci nodded, but before he could speak, the fat monk jumped up first.
"No! I disagree!"
Before he could finish speaking, the photographer shoved him aside.
"We've already signed a contract. You can't just say you disagree and then you don't agree?"
After saying that, he turned and looked at Chu Ci with a smile.
"Master Chu, rest assured, we will definitely have our staff edit it properly!"
Before the fat monk could say anything more, the two of them quickly got into the car.
The fat monk was still pointing at their car and cursing when they saw their car start up.
The fat monk was shocked: "You brought me here, but you're not taking me away?"
"Hey! Stop the car! I haven't gotten in yet!"
He ran alongside the car for a couple of steps, but couldn't run any further.
I quickly hailed a taxi and chased after them, trying to stop the production team from playing the video that had just been shown.
After dinner, Chu Ci went upstairs early to rest.
After Grandma fell asleep, she quickly sent her soul out of her body and went to the shop.
Inside the shop, Li Lecan and Xiao Min were holding down the two male ghosts while waiting for her.
"master."
Li Lecan wanted to say something, but Chu Ci shook her head at her.
"Wait, someone's coming."
As soon as the words were spoken, a chubby figure that looked like two potatoes ignored the closed door and entered directly in spirit form.
He rushed in and shouted, "Dazhu, Erzhu! Where have you been?!"
"Get out here right now!"
The two male ghosts, held down by Li Lecan and Xiaomin, struggled frantically, but their mouths were gagged.
It kept making "uh-uh-uh" sounds, as if it wanted to cry but couldn't.
Waaaaah, we're here!!!
Help, Master!
