Chapter 32 Using Psychic Strategies to Find the Murderer
Chu Ci glanced at Lin Ming and Shen Xiuhe behind her.
Lin Ming touched the tip of his nose. "I just came with the people from the Major Crimes Unit to find out what happened, but we didn't get any information out of them."
Jiang Caixia's younger brother, Jiang Yuan, pouted.
“We didn’t do anything, you definitely won’t get any information out of us! Not only can you not find the murderer who killed my sister, but you also try to slander her family… Aren’t you afraid my sister will come looking for you in the middle of the night?”
Lin Ming pursed his lips and remained silent, while Shen Xiuhe's face paled.
He pointed to Lin Ming beside him and said, "Have your sister go find him. This has nothing to do with me. I'm just passing by."
Jiang Yuan: "..."
He was just venting his emotions and said it casually, but he didn't expect the two officers to not get angry.
It made him feel uneasy.
"Ah Yuan, who's outside?" A deep female voice came from inside the house.
Jiang Yuan turned around, "Mom, it's Sister Aci! She's Chu Ci, the granddaughter of Granny Mi and Granny Dan on that street over there!"
“And,” he glanced quickly at Lin Ming and Shen Xiuhe, “there are also the two officers who just came by.”
"The officer is here again?"
A middle-aged woman wearing a dark blue top came out with a worried look on her face, her hands groping haphazardly in the air.
"Ah Yuan?"
"Mom, I'm here."
Jiang Yuan quickly took the middle-aged woman's hand and led her to the door.
The lights in his house weren't very bright, and it wasn't until Chu Ci got closer that he could see what Jiang Caixia's mother looked like.
She looked more than ten years older than her actual age, with deep wrinkles on her face, graying hair, and her eyes were faintly gray, making them clearly unrecognizable.
"Officer, what else would you like to know?"
She squinted at the people outside, but could only see four shadows of varying heights.
"We've told you everything we can. Why aren't you hurrying to find the murderer who killed Caixia? What are you doing running to our house?"
After saying that, she sighed and groped to take her son's hand.
"Officer, how about this? My light bulb is broken. Let my son go buy a new one and replace it. I'll answer any questions you have, okay?"
Chu Ci glanced at Jiang Yuan, who was supporting her mother, and took the initiative to speak: "Auntie, do you remember me? I am Chu Ci. I used to be very close to Caixia."
"I remember, of course I remember."
Jiang Yuan's mother then showed a slight smile.
“Caixia always mentions you when she’s home. Our family isn’t well-off, and you often treated Caixia to nice meals and always had her bring things home. How could I not remember you?”
Chu Ci: "..."
Jiang Caixia's family was not well-off, and the original owner's family wasn't much better off either.
The two did often go out to eat together before, but in the original owner's memory, they initially split the bill, but later Jiang Caixia insisted on paying.
As for having Jiang Caixia bring things home... the original owner didn't even bring anything for her grandmother, so how could there be anything extra for Jiang Caixia's family?
She suppressed her doubts and smiled, "Auntie, these two police officers are friends with me. They're not here to take a statement; they just came with me."
Lin Ming tugged at the back of her clothes, but she gently slapped it away.
Chu Ci: "Auntie, did Caixia tell you? My family is involved in funeral-related matters. As her friend, I don't know what else I can do, so I just want to recite a section of the 'Rebirth Sutra' for her and send her off on her final journey."
“I said it, I said it, Caixia said it. You’re asking about Granny Mi’s granddaughter, right? She’ll definitely be making arrangements for her funeral.”
Jiang Yuan's mother squinted and looked again carefully, only to realize that she had just misread it.
The figure outside the door was Chu Ci, who was slightly shorter, and the other two were the taller officers. There was no fourth person.
She gestured for the three people to come in, sighed and shook her head, "Alas, I'm getting old. I ruined my eyesight in the past, and now I can't see. I've been a burden to my two children."
"Mom, your eyes are ruined because of me and my sister. How did you become such a burden to us?"
Jiang Yuan grabbed his keys and prepared to go out to buy light bulbs, giving Chu Ci an embarrassed smile.
"I don't know what's wrong with the lights these past two days. I just changed the bulb, but they only lasted one night before going dark again. Sister Aci, I'm going to buy a light bulb. Could you please look after my mom for me?"
“Ah Yuan, Mom isn’t completely blind yet, don’t worry about things like your sister.”
Jiang Yuan's mother waved her hand, "Go quickly, come back sooner rather than later, and don't get into any conflicts with anyone."
"I understand, Mom!"
Jiang Yuan left and closed the door behind him. Hearing the door close, Jiang Yuan's mother fumbled to pour them water.
"There's nothing good to drink at home, so please have some water."
"Auntie, you don't need to be so polite, we're not thirsty."
Chu Ci smiled and thanked him, his eyes scanning the room.
Jiang Caixia's father abandoned her and her two children years ago, leaving Jiang's mother to raise the two children alone with great difficulty.
Because of this, the family's financial situation wasn't very good.
Three people live in a home of less than 30 square meters, which is crammed full of all sorts of things. Only the toilet is partitioned off with wooden boards.
The three people each slept in a separate space enclosed by curtains, and the beds were narrow and small in order to save space.
The wall above the bed was also set up with various storage spaces, making the room cramped and dark.
In such an open and unobstructed place, even if she wanted a private space to light incense and communicate with spirits, it would be unlikely.
Fortunately, there was a full-length mirror next to Jiang Caixia's bed, which met the requirements for using the spirit incense.
It seems that she can only talk to Jiang Caixia under Jiang's mother's nose.
"Auntie, when I recite the Rebirth Sutra for Caixia, I need to burn incense. Do you mind the smell of smoke?"
Jiang's mother waved her hand, "You came here out of kindness to help Caixia, what's a little bit of smoke? It's just that my house is small and has a lot of stuff, and I can't see very well. Aci, just be careful and don't let it start a fire."
"good."
Chu Ci gestured for Lin Ming and Shen Xiu to move aside and whispered to them, "Don't make a sound when you see anything, understand?"
Lin Ming nodded solemnly, "I understand, don't worry."
Shen Xiuhe shuddered and closed his eyes. "I don't want to see anything."
That's what they said, but after Chu Ci lit the spirit incense, the temperature in the room dropped immediately.
He couldn't help but open his eyes.
The overhead light flickered twice and then suddenly went out.
Only the candle lit by Chu Ci remained lit in the room.
Feeling the sudden drop in temperature, Jiang's mother subconsciously rubbed her arms.
But Chu Ci had already begun chanting scriptures in a low voice. She didn't make a sound, and groped her way to the window to see if it was closed properly.
However, as she walked away, she suddenly heard a loud noise, as if someone had kicked something, and Chu Ci's chanting stopped.
"Aci?"
Jiang's mother was puzzled and rubbed her hands haphazardly in the air.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
Chu Ci: "..."
She froze on the spot, and when she saw her mother's appearance in the mirror, the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end.
Lin Ming stared wide-eyed at the mirror in front of Chu Ci, then at the bewildered Jiang Mu beside him, and for a moment he even forgot to breathe.
Shen Xiuhe fared even worse; he was so shocked that he couldn't help but take two steps back, accidentally making a noise.
Right now, Jiang Caixia, who was standing behind Jiang's mother, was watching them.
She clung tightly to Jiang's mother's back, her legs extending from behind and wrapping tightly around Jiang's mother's waist.
He rested his head on his mother's shoulder, snuggling close to her.
Two pale hands covered Jiang's mother's eyes, her lychee-like white eyes staring straight at Shen Xiuhe.
Shen Xiuhe: "..."
He wanted to cry but had no tears, and closed his eyes resignedly.
Why is it always him?!
"Ah Ci? Sir?"
After waiting for a while without receiving a response, Jiang's mother became a little anxious and took larger steps forward.
"What's wrong? What's wrong with you all? Why aren't you saying anything?"
Seeing that she was about to carry Jiang Caixia's ghost over, Lin Ming quickly said, "Auntie, don't move!"
Jiang's mother stopped, her heart filled with unease. "What...what's wrong with you?"
She felt a chill on her back and instinctively touched it, but found nothing.
On the contrary, my left shoulder feels very painful.
It felt like something was pressing down on me, making it difficult to even lift my arm.
She tried to turn her head to take a look, but something seemed to be preventing her from doing so.
"Aci, is there something on my left shoulder? I'm so cold, and my shoulder hurts so much..."
"It's so cold inside, is the window not closed properly?"
Chu Ci looked at Jiang Caixia, who was leaning on her left shoulder, and silently swallowed.
She's seen ghosts quite a few times, but each time she feels uncomfortable.
"Auntie, don't turn your head away, and don't panic. Listen to me..."
She stared intently at the full-length mirror in front of her.
"Auntie, would you like to see Caixia?"
As she spoke, Jiang Caixia in the full-length mirror slowly turned her head, shifting her gaze from Shen Xiuhe to her.
