Chapter 9: Doubts
Anshi Hualing District Public Security Bureau.
"You are saying that your daughter was murdered, and the evidence is this letter?"
Hou Yan took a blood-stained letter and read it over and over again.
"Uncle and aunt, a letter alone cannot be used as evidence. It can only prove that Xu Ran attended the banquet before her death, but it cannot prove that she was killed at the banquet."
Xu's mother slapped the table and said, "What do you mean it can't be proved? My daughter died mysteriously after attending the banquet. How can it not be proved?"
Father Xu also looked anxious. "Comrade, my daughter said in the letter that someone was harassing her, and she committed suicide after eating a meal. How could there be such a coincidence in the world? Can't you investigate it?"
Hou Yan rubbed his forehead and said, "Uncle and aunt, even if this is the case, we have to prove that Xu Ran was murdered. If there is an autopsy report proving that Xu Ran was murdered, our police station will also launch an investigation without you saying anything."
Mr. and Mrs. Xu were stuck for a moment, and they looked at each other with pale faces.
My daughter has been cremated, so there is no autopsy report.
Hou Yan sighed, put the letter on the table and pushed it back, "Uncle and aunt, I understand your feelings, but you also know that the police have to rely on evidence when handling cases."
"Xu Ran's case has been closed and she is buried. We can't arrest her just because of a letter."
Lin Jin snatched the letter back and said, "Police comrade, you mean that as long as it is proven that Xu Ran did not commit suicide, then we can reopen the case for investigation, right?"
Hou Yan nodded, "Yes, if there is enough evidence, the case will be reopened."
"Okay, I'll find evidence." Lin Jin put the phone back into her pocket, turned around and took Xu's father and mother out.
After they left the door, Hou Yan withdrew his gaze, calmly took out a wet towel to wipe off the remaining blood smell on his hands, and then picked up a small bottle of perfume and sprayed it on his body several times.
"Who are you? What are you doing at my workstation?"
Mi Li came out of the bathroom wiping her hands and saw someone sitting at her workstation. She looked the person up and down in confusion.
He has a strange face and is wearing a police uniform. Is he new here?
Hou Yan stood up and said with a smile: "Sister, you are back. I was seconded from another branch to help. The leader asked me to check some information. I saw that you didn't come back for a long time, so I had to do it myself."
"I'll find it for you whatever information you want." Mi Li didn't think much about it. She sat down and turned on the computer to open the database.
Hou Yan quickly reported a few names, looked up at the red dot above his head, smiled, and the red dot disappeared instantly and reappeared in the blink of an eye.
......
Lin Jin took the Xu family away from the Public Security Bureau and sat down in a park. She put the letter away and asked the questions she had always wanted to ask.
"Uncle and aunt, I want to ask why you were in such a hurry to cremate Ran Ran. I heard you were confused in the funeral home, so why didn't you preserve Ran Ran's body?"
She wanted to ask at the funeral home why her uncle and aunt were in such a hurry to cremate the body since they didn't believe that Ranran committed suicide.
After all, if the body is kept, an autopsy can be performed. Now that the body has been cremated, all the evidence is gone.
Mother Xu frowned, "I don't know what I was thinking at the time. I just felt so heartbroken when I saw Ran Ran's body. I just wanted her to rest in peace. I didn't even think about doing an autopsy."
She patted her head, tears streaming down her face, "It's all my fault. Why did I agree to cremate Ran Ran? I clearly didn't believe the police's conclusion, and I don't know why I cremated Ran Ran."
Lin Jin's heart sank, and she glanced at Xu's father who was also in tears, "Uncle, did you think the same thing that day?"
Father Xu's eyes were briefly confused. After thinking for a while, he said, "I saw Ran Ran lying in the ice coffin. I didn't dare to look at her any more. At that time, I just wanted to prevent Ran Ran from lying in the funeral home in pain. I had to cremate her quickly."
Lin Jin's heart fell to the bottom.
What a coincidence, both of them had the same idea. Even twins couldn't have such telepathic connection.
"Sister Jin, what should we do now?" Xu Bei looked at Lin Jin helplessly.
Lin Jin paused, looked at the few people who were as clueless as headless flies, and assured them, "I will go find evidence. Even if there are many difficulties ahead, I will definitely find the truth."
......
The National Day holiday is over and the students who were on holiday have returned to school in time.
Lin Jin returned to school at the last minute before the dormitory closed.
She pushed open the dormitory door gently, thinking that her roommate had gone to bed early, but when she pushed it open, she saw the lights in the room were on and several large suitcases were placed on the floor.
A girl wearing a facial mask and a pink nightgown squatted in front of a suitcase, rummaging through the suitcase and sorting out her clothes.
Hua Yi heard the noise and turned around, seeing Lin Jin standing at the door with nowhere to step, and hurriedly dragged away the box that was blocking her.
"Lin Jin, you're back. I thought you wouldn't be back until tomorrow. Sorry, I'll pack right away."
Lin Jin shook her head and said nothing. She stepped over the box that was blocking her way and put the packed fried rice noodles on the table.
"Who's back?"
A tall girl with a high ponytail turned around with a toothbrush in her mouth and immediately spat out toothpaste foam when she saw the person coming. "Lin Jin? Are you back just now?"
"Yes, I went out for something, and I thought you were all asleep."
Lin Jin pulled out a stool and sat down. She looked down and saw Hua Yi getting busier and busier. She put down her chopsticks and asked, "Do you need my help?"
"Oh no...well, thank you."
Hua Yi originally wanted to say no need for help, but looking at the suitcases that she had no idea where to start, she could only smile and thank him, "Sorry, my parents helped me pack these, I'm not very good at it."
"fine."
Lin Jin squatted in front of Hua Yi, picked up a long-sleeved dress and folded it in half.
"Oh my god, I'm so hungry. I really want to cook some instant noodles."
The splashing sound in the bathroom stopped, and Jiang Le came out with wet hair, frowning and holding his stomach.
"Huh? Auntie, you're back?" She looked at Auntie Lin in surprise who was helping her fold clothes.
Lin Jin: "Well, I came back late because of something. Are you hungry? I have fried rice noodles on the table. Go and have some!"
Jiang Le's eyes lit up, and then he quickly dropped his shoulders, "Thank you, but I've already brushed my teeth, so forget it."
She forced herself to look away, ignored the alluring scent in the air, found a hair dryer and went to the bathroom to blow dry her hair.
After Minghui finished washing up, she came over to help Huayi pack her suitcase.
Hua Yi smiled gratefully, and the three of them quickened their movements. When Jiang Le came out of the bathroom after blow-drying his hair, several large boxes on the ground had been put away.
A wooden table was placed in the middle of the dormitory, with several large bags of dried seafood and dried fruits on it. Hua Yi was holding a coconut and waving at Jiang Le.
"Come to Jiangle, I'm just waiting for you."
The corners of Jiang Le's mouth twitched slightly, and her stomach happened to growl at this moment. She walked over resignedly, took the coconut handed to her by Hua Yi and took a big gulp.
"Great! Why lose weight? I regretted it as soon as I entered the bathroom just now."
"Puff!" Hua's eyes curved into a crescent shape, "Eat, eat as much as you can, I have more here when you're done."
"Lin Jin, you and Ming Sui, don't be polite. These are all local specialties we brought back. Eat as much as you want."
Minghui was no longer polite. She grabbed a piece of dried shrimp as big as her palm in one hand and drank from a coconut in the other.
Lin Jin said thank you and also took a sip of the coconut.
The coconut juice is icy cold, and the sweetness spreads straight from the throat to the heart after one sip.
She looked at her roommates who were chatting and laughing, and the tense mood she had been in for the past few days gradually relaxed.
