Many researchers were coming and going. When they saw the scepter in Mr. An's hand, they all stopped and bowed.
Mr. An finally arrived at the place he wanted to go, this underground laboratory, which connects to the ocean of White Tower Star. He could see the light green seawater through the thick glass.
There were quite a few mermaids swimming in the water; their tails were beautiful, but lacked luster.
Mr. An's eyes seemed to be searching intently for something. He walked around the glass two or three times, but he couldn't find what he was looking for.
"Mr. An, you've arrived." A man in a white lab coat emerged from another small door. The armband on his shoulder indicated that he was of high status, and the work badge hanging on his chest revealed that his name was Kerry.
Mr. An didn't turn around. "What about number 1021?"
Kerry replied, "He must be hiding."
"Hold on."
Kerry turned on his personal terminal and tapped it. "Coming out right away."
As soon as he finished speaking, a thin mermaid slowly swam out of the sea from a rockery.
Kerry commanded through the loudspeaker above the glass, "Come here!"
The little mermaid swam slowly toward the glass, but the movement of its tail was stiff and very small.
The little mermaid stopped in front of the glass, looking at the two people behind it with great fear.
"Laugh!" Kerry continued his stern rebuke.
The little mermaid gave a timid smile, only the corners of her mouth turned up, her facial expression was very stiff, and her eyes were full of fear.
Mr. An looked coldly at the little mermaid in front of him, "1021, transform into human form."
Upon hearing this command, the little mermaid's fear deepened, and she didn't want to do it.
When Kerry saw that this was the only experimental subject that could be considered a success, it was ignoring his instructions and became angry. As he pressed the button on the quantum computer, the little merman seemed to be electrocuted all over its body and was in extreme pain.
The entire process lasted twenty seconds, after which the punishment ended.
"1021, transform into human form!" Mr. An commanded once again.
The little mermaid could only obey commands, hold onto its tail, and perform the actions.
Under the watchful eyes of the two, a small mermaid's tail transformed into fish legs, making it indistinguishable from an ordinary human.
The only thing that could be seen from the merman's face was that he was enduring immense pain.
"Very good!" Mr. An commented.
"You've done a great job! I'll put in a good word for you with the commander-in-chief. The future of the alliance depends on you."
Kerry bowed humbly and said, "It is all thanks to the Commander's decision and Mr. An's careful guidance."
"Although only 1021 has been successful among the many experimental subjects so far, I believe that with unremitting efforts, this technology will become more and more mature and benefit all interstellar people."
Mr. An remained noncommittal, then turned and left, holding his scepter.
Bion, Kerry's assistant, watched Mr. Ann leave. He only knew that they had to be extremely respectful to those who held the scepter, but he didn't know the man's exact identity.
"Boss, who is this Mr. An?" Bion asked, leaning closer. "You're already the Alliance's leading expert in merman research, yet you have to treat him with such respect?"
Kerry glanced at Bion, the man he valued most among all his assistants, and was happy to offer a word of advice. "If the number one person in the league is the commander, then Mr. Ann is the number two."
"Just focus on your own work, and don't ask or say anything else."
"Watch your mouth."
Seeing the teacher's serious expression, he quickly replied solemnly, "Yes!"
