Chapter 1 My name is Shen Wuhuai, a street urchin
In the summer, cicadas chirp constantly, and at night, lights flicker.
"Hello, hey, hey, young man, we've arrived at Wanjia Village." The bus driver lit a cigarette and woke up the boy who was sleeping soundly in the front seat.
The boy opened his sleepy eyes, the faint light in the car reflected the boy's profile, fatigue and immaturity quietly emerged on his face, and a faint smell of Omeg accompanied him all over.
He silently took out a handful of change and placed it next to the driver.
The driver counted out the crumpled change and said, "It's not enough. It costs 60 yuan to get to Wanjia Village, and you only have 58 yuan here."
Yu Zhao lowered his eyes, looked back at the driver, and then rummaged through the blue backpack. He moved his lips and said softly, "Sorry, that..."
"Forget it this time. Just give me the supplies next time. I'm the one who goes to Wanjia Village every other week anyway." The driver took out a piece of paper and a pen impatiently, "Write down your name and contact information."
Yu Zhao wrote down his name. As for the contact information, he still had no communication tools. The driver sighed and thought he was unlucky. He chose to trust him and let him go.
Yu Zhao raised his head. The road ahead was dark and bright, with street lights sometimes working and sometimes not. He pursed his lips and walked forward.
He had never been to Wanjia Village, and his originally clean canvas shoes were stained with mud on the muddy path.
He suddenly remembered what the woman said. When he arrived at the village entrance, he counted the tenth house and found that it was his grandparents' house. He stopped and looked at the dilapidated house.
It doesn't look like a place where people live.
Just as he was about to turn around to think of a solution, he bumped into a man holding a basin. The water in the basin wet his clothes, and he took a few steps back.
"Don't you have eyes to watch when you walk?!" The other party started scolding him without even asking him if he was okay.
"Haozi, what's going on?" A taller figure appeared behind the man named Haozi, covering Yu Zhao. The man in a flowered shirt spoke in a cold voice, "No, this is fucking hot water. If it scalds someone to death, can you afford to pay for it?" The man slapped Haozi on the head.
"Boss, he bumped into it himself." Haozi wanted to explain.
Shen Wuhuai responded, but he did not think Haozi was right. Instead, he said unhappily, "Why don't you hurry up and apologize to the kid?"
"I'm sorry." Haozi felt aggrieved.
Yu Zhao's eyes were dim. Compared with the current situation, he wanted to find where his grandparents lived. He said, "No, it's my problem."
Seeing this, Shen Wuhuai didn't know what to say, "Since that's the case, Haozi, ask him to change his clothes."
Yu Zhao refused, "Can I borrow your phone?"
Shen Wuhuai stopped and leaned over, "Come in."
The opposite side of the cold and lonely room was filled with the smell of fireworks. The room was full of boys about his age, and the air was filled with a strong smell of alcohol.
Shen Wuhuai threw his phone away and took a coat for Yu Zhao, "Change your clothes."
Yu Zhao made a phone call in advance.
He dialed the phone number he had memorized for twelve years.
The room did not become quiet because of Yu Zhao's appearance. Shen Wuhuai's sharp eyes scanned everyone and the room became quiet instantly.
The other end of the line rang for a long time before a female voice with rapid breathing came on, "Who is it? Who are you calling to harass me so late at night?"
"Mom, it's me."
Yu Zhao covered the phone with his hand, which was a rude gesture, and quickly walked out of the room.
Shen Wuhuai swept through Yu Zhao's wet clothes. The air filled with alcohol suddenly had a greasy sweet smell, the fragrance of osmanthus pheromones.
"Why are you calling? Didn't you agree to stay there for a month before coming back?" A female voice mixed with chaotic breathing, and intimate and ambiguous words continued to come.
Shen Wuhuai stood firmly at the threshold.
"I did as you asked. It's a house with no one living in it." Yu Zhao told the story slowly. Even when facing a mother like that, he still had to pretend to be calm.
"Ah~ Didn't you find it?" Yu Zhao clenched his fists while the other end was laughing and joking. A female voice sounded out of place again, "Zhao Zhao, that's not an empty house, you know? Your grandpa and grandma haven't been buried yet, they died there."
When these words came out, not only Yu Zhao was shocked, but Shen Wuhuai behind him also frowned instantly.
Yu Zhao hasn't reacted yet.
The woman continued, "Go and keep your grandparents company. Your dad doesn't want you anymore, so these two old people should be nice to you. Be obedient. I'm busy. I'll take you home next month."
"..." Yu Zhao was speechless. He hung up the phone and handed the phone to Shen Wuhuai. "Thank you." Then he walked towards the dark room. If his mother hadn't lied to him...
Shen Wuhuai did not stop him. He turned around and closed the door, and the group of brothers continued to eat, drink and have fun.
Yu Zhao pushed open the shabby door and groped along the wall to turn on the light. The room was tidy and clean, and a gust of cold wind blew in from the window.
Not as his mother said.
Yu Zhao suspected that he had taken the wrong path. He looked up and scanned the room until he saw two photos hanging on the wall, which completely confirmed that his loved ones had left.
He could not even look directly at the photo. His body was shaking violently, and the fact that there was no one in the room made him shudder. He took two steps back and closed the door. The silent room formed a sharp contrast with the cheerful and noisy room opposite.
He squatted down slowly. The dusty floor was covered with shredded paper, and the dripping tears wet the shredded paper. Yu Zhao could bear anything, but he could not bear the death of his grandparents.
He had no chance to visit them during the entire summer vacation. He was driven crazy by that woman, and every day there was a drama between a different man and a woman.
Yu Zhao's fingers gripped the dirt on the floor. He was trembling and didn't dare to cry out loud. He thought coming to the countryside was a relief.
He never thought that it was that woman who gave him the nightmare again.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. "Zhao Zhao? Is that you? I'm your aunt."
Yu Zhao heard a familiar voice and got up in a panic to open the door. A woman in a white dress came into view. Zhai Jing gasped and hugged Yu Zhao who was rushing towards her.
"Why are you here alone? Do you know how worried my aunt was when she received the call?"
Tears welled up in Yu Zhao's eyes. He couldn't even utter a word, "Aunt, my grandma and the others..."
Zhai Jing comforted him, "Zhao Zhao, you have to be more open-minded."
Yu Zhao shook his head vigorously. He didn't know. He couldn't get over it. He hadn't seen them for the last time. In the final analysis, he had no way to escape from that woman.
His desperate eyes were dim and lifeless, he cried and said he really couldn't get over it, his tears were shining on both sides of his cheeks, Shen Wuhuai witnessed it all.
Yu Zhao has never had maternal love, and the love of his grandparents is the most precious.
But now, it's too late.
Shen Wuhuai pulled the curtain and drank a gulp of wine. It turned out that the old couple buried by this group of thugs were Yu Zhao's grandparents.
The next morning, Yu Zhao returned to the cold house again. Zhai Jing took him to a nearby farmhouse to sleep for the night. Yu Zhao was very uneasy that night.
Maybe it's guilt.
He picked up the broom and swept the front of the door thoroughly. He never left out any corner of the house. He lifted a stool and stood at the highest point, wiping the "glorious home" belonging to his grandparents again and again.
In short, he didn't want to go back to that woman during this period.
His thoughts were racing, and he would be able to get away when school started.
He was so heartbroken after the loss of his loved one that he probably could no longer forgive that woman's actions.
When Yu Zhao stepped down from the stool, he did not notice the uneven floor tiles. He did not step firmly and fell heavily. He was in a moody mood and the bland osmanthus pheromones were a little agitated.
He let out a sigh. Even if he was unlucky, he still had to live.
At this time, a hand reached out to him, and Shen Wuhuai brushed his teeth with one hand, "Are you okay?"
Yu Zhao did not see Shen Wuhuai's face clearly at night, but now that it was bright, he could see Shen Wuhuai clearly.
It’s hard to explain, probably to the extent that boys think I’m very handsome.
Yu Zhao thought so too. He looked down at his hands which were stained with dirt.
He rejected Shen Wuhuai's kindness and stood up on his own, "It's okay."
Shen Wuhuai withdrew his hand and said, "Your pheromones smell so strong." He was extremely calm.
Yu Zhao responded sullenly, "I haven't had the ability to control pheromones since I was a child. Can you smell it?"
"A dog's nose is more sensitive." Shen Wuhuai chuckled. The osmanthus pheromone he smelled was not as fragile and sweet as it was last night. Instead, it was like that of a grumpy puppy.
Yu Zhao looked at him, "You are..." Omega or Alpha?
He wanted to ask Shen Wuhuai this.
Shen Wuhuai answered him, "I am Shen Wuhuai, a street urchin."
"...My name is Yu Zhao." Yu Zhao had no choice but to answer him.
"Brother Huai! Why are you chatting with him?" Haozi walked to Shen Wuhuai and handed him a face towel. "Give me the cup. It's time to change your toothbrush. I'll go to town today to buy you two good ones."
Shen Wuhuai whispered, "Let's go together. I have something to take care of. You call my brothers." After he finished speaking, Yu Zhao looked at the backs of the two people as they left. He raised his arm and smelled the scent on his body.
Is it true that only... Alpha can smell the pheromones on him?
Is Omega okay? Is Shen Wuhuai an Omega?
Yu Zhao didn't think any more about it. After he finished cleaning, he happened to meet Zhai Jing who came to see him. Zhai Jing took him to the town.
Zhai Jing said that grandparents died of gas poisoning, but the only person who bought a gas stove for them was Yu Zhao's mother.
So Zhai Jing suspected that this was a long-planned murder.
But they had no evidence.
Zhai Jing told Yu Zhao seriously, "Zhao Zhao, I know it's painful for you to be with her, but it's only you." Before she finished speaking, Yu Zhao seemed to understand.
Only he could collect evidence against that woman.
Zhai Jing brought him to the town and bought him a lot of new clothes in preparation for Yu Zhao's return to the city to study. Zhai Jing was worried that no one cared about Yu Zhao except her.
"Thank you, auntie." Yu Zhao smiled.
Zhai Jing patted his head and said, "Zhao Zhao, be good. When your aunt and uncle have enough money, we will definitely take you in. We don't want you to be tortured by that lunatic anymore."
Poor Yu Zhao, he has not gone crazy in the past seventeen years.
It's a blessing.
They walked around the mall for a few rounds. In the crowd, Yu Zhao passed by a man who smelled strongly of rose pheromones. Yu Zhao turned around and found that the man had a strange posture, as if he was injured.
Yu Zhao didn't think much about it. He followed Zhai Jing through every shopping mall.
Until the sun is about to set.
