Chapter 89: Uncle Yin and Yang Vents His Anger
The door was pushed open, and Su Tang's aunt Su Yufen and her husband Zhao Youcai appeared at the door.
Su Yufen had a smile on her face, but her eyes were a little vague.
She quickly glanced at the simple house, and when her smile fell on Su Tang and Lu Xiao, who were well-dressed and had outstanding temperament, her smile became more genuine.
Zhao Youcai, who was standing beside her, was a slightly plump man wearing a washed-out cadre uniform, and he also had a smile on his face.
But the smile only appeared at the corner of her mouth, and her eyes were filled with scrutiny, especially when she saw Lu Xiao, there was a subtle consideration in her scrutiny.
"Aunt, uncle."
Su Tang stood up with a decent smile on his face.
The voice was calm, without any sign of fatigue from the long journey or the grief and anger just now, only a kind of distant politeness.
Lu Xiao also stood up and nodded slightly as a greeting.
He has an upright posture, a calm gaze, and an aura of majesty that comes from without even being angry.
"Oh, Tangtang! You've grown into a big girl, so pretty! When I saw you when I was little, you were so tall. It's been so many years since we last met."
"This...this is Lu Xiao, right? He's such a handsome guy!"
Su Yufen gestured to show her height, trying to get closer to Su Tang.
She took a few steps forward and tried to pull Su Tang's hand, but Su Tang avoided her without leaving a trace and went to tidy up the medicine box he had just taken out on the small table next to her.
"Aunt, you're too kind." Su Tang said in a light tone.
Su Yufen's hand paused awkwardly in the air, then she turned to Su Ma with a smile on her face.
"Sister-in-law! Look at you! The children have come all the way here, how can you let them squeeze into this shabby little house? It's damp and stuffy!"
"Hurry, pack up and go to my house! It's spacious and the bedding is clean. Let Tangtang and Xiaolu have a good rest!"
As she spoke, she wanted to help Su Tang with his luggage.
Zhao Youcai also chimed in, his tone sounding generous and alms-giving.
"That's right, how can a family squeeze in here? I said it was wrong to give up this shabby building of the technical station when we got it. It's too unfair to my brother and sister-in-law!"
"Come on, come on, let's all go home. We just bought some meat today to welcome the kids!"
His eyes swept over Lu Xiao with a hint of temptation.
"Comrade Lu, what does he do in the Northwest? You must have had a hard time on the journey."
Lu Xiao did not respond to Zhao Youcai's inquiry about work, but just looked at Su Yufen with a steady voice.
"Thank you so much, Aunt and Uncle. Don't bother us, we are fine here."
"What's good about it!" Su Yufen was anxious.
"How can anyone live in this place? Your father is still sick..."
Before she could finish her words, she met Su Tang's gaze. His gaze was as calm as a deep pool, but it made her feel inexplicably empty inside, and her voice couldn't help but become smaller.
Su Tang gently closed the lid of the medicine box.
She turned around, still with that faint smile on her face, and her voice was neither too loud nor too low, reaching everyone's ears clearly.
"Aunt, you really don't have to worry about it. This house was allocated to Dad by the technical station. Although it's a bit old, after cleaning it up, it can be considered a place to live. Mom and Dad have lived here for so long, I'm sure they've gotten used to it."
She deliberately slowed down her speech and spoke very clearly on the words "the technical station gave it to my dad" and "I'm used to it".
His eyes vaguely swept across Zhao Youcai's face, whose smile was a little frozen.
"Besides."
Su Tang's tone rose slightly, with just the right amount of confusion.
"We're here to take care of Dad while he recovers from his illness. He's weak and can't stand being moved around. This room is a little damp, but it's quiet and there's no one to disturb him, so it's perfect for recuperation."
"If we move somewhere else and don't adapt to the local climate, or if we disturb other people's peace and quiet, that wouldn't be good, don't you think, uncle?"
Her last sentence was directed at Zhao Youcai with an inexplicable sarcasm.
The smile on his face disappeared completely, and the muscles in his cheeks twitched.
At first, he openly and secretly disliked Su's father and mother for taking up space and being in the way.
They disliked Su's father's arrogant and stinky intellectual temperament, and tried to pressure them to move out in words and deeds.
Now that Su Tang pointed it out, he felt his face burning.
He wanted to get angry and scold this kid for not knowing the rules and speaking with ulterior motives.
But as soon as his eyes met Lu Xiao, who stood next to him as thin as a pine tree, he forced himself to suppress his anger.
Although Lu Xiao didn't say anything, his eyes, like invisible pressure, made him dare not act rashly.
He knew that the young man in front of him was no ordinary person and his position was probably far above his.
Zhao Youcai finally managed a forced laugh. "Haha...haha, Tangtang...you're very considerate. The patient...is indeed not suitable to be moved."
Su Yufen also heard the subtle meaning in her niece's words. Her face flushed and turned pale. She felt embarrassed and a little wronged. She wanted to defend herself: "Tangtang, what you said...back then your father..."
"aunt."
Su Tang interrupted her, his tone gentle but unquestionable.
"Let's not talk about the past. Mom and Dad live here now, and we're taking care of them. You and Uncle can rest assured. We appreciate your kindness."
She paused and turned her gaze to Zhao Youcai. Her eyes were clear, yet had the penetrating power to see through everything.
"Thank you also for your care, uncle."
She said the word "take care" with some gritted teeth.
Zhao Youcai felt as if an invisible slap had hit his face, causing him to feel burning and uncomfortable.
He felt a tightness in his chest, but he didn't want to lose his composure in front of outsiders, so he could only nod stiffly.
"Of course, of course... Then... Then you guys settle down first. If you need anything, just let me know..."
He couldn't go on. He felt that if he stayed any longer, his old face would be ripped off by this niece who seemed gentle but actually spoke with such thorns.
"Yes, yes, if you need anything, be sure to tell me!"
Su Yufen also quickly responded and pulled Zhao Youcai's arm.
"Then...Brother, sister-in-law, you should have a good rest. We will go back first and come to see you another day...another day."
She almost fled, pulling Zhao Youcai, whose face was ashen, out of the low, dilapidated house.
The door was closed, isolating the turbid air outside and the false warmth.
The room became quiet again, with only the suppressed cough of Su's father.
The mask of politeness and aloofness on Su Tang's face faded away in an instant, leaving only deep fatigue and heartache for his parents.
She walked to the bedside, held her father's cold hand, and whispered, "Dad, Mom, I'm sorry, I..."
Father Su spoke weakly, but there was a glimmer of relief in his eyes.
"Silly child, why apologize? You did the right thing. You have backbone, just like your father."
"Xiao Lu is also very good. My choice was not wrong."
Lu Xiao walked to Su Tang, wrapped her slightly cold hands with his warm big hands, and said solemnly to Su's father and mother.
"Dad, Mom, just rest assured and recover. With Tangtang and I here, we won't let you suffer any more grievances. As for leaving, we'll do it once Dad's health stabilizes."
