Chapter 96 Are you sure you want to expose it in public?
Zhao Youcai grabbed Su Yufen's arm with such force that he almost crushed her bones.
Ignoring her struggles and cries, he dragged her out roughly like a dead dog.
"I won't go! Youcai! Let me go! Please!"
Su Yufen cried out in despair, dragging her feet on the ground, looking miserable.
But her struggle was pitifully weak in front of the furious Zhao Youcai.
Zhao Youcai dragged the crying and struggling Su Yufen, like a moving storm, attracting countless astonished and curious glances along the way.
The villagers on the island put down their work, looked around and whispered to each other.
This scene quickly alarmed Su Tang's parents.
Su Yufen’s elder brother Su Wenbin and sister-in-law Min Ling.
Under Su Tang's care recently, Su Wenbin, Su's father, looks radiant and can even walk again.
He no longer had the lifeless look of the past and had regained his gentle and refined appearance.
As soon as the two walked out of the yard, they saw Zhao Youcai dragging Su Yufen, who was crying so hard that she was unrecognizable, to their doorstep like he was escorting a prisoner.
"Although I, Zhao Youcai, have made some mistakes, I will still call you Big Brother and Big Sister-in-law."
Zhao Youcai threw Su Yufen forward, and she staggered and fell at Su Wenbin's feet, crying so hard that she almost died.
Zhao Youcai's chest heaved violently. He pointed at Su Yufen lying on the ground and roared at Su Wenbin and his wife. His voice echoed throughout half the village.
"Your dear sister! She wants to divorce me! Ask her! What sinful things has she done? What has she hidden from me? What kind of shameful and dirty things is she hiding in her heart?!"
Su Wenbin and Min Ling were stunned by this sudden scene.
Looking at his sister crying heart-wrenchingly on the ground, and then at his furious brother-in-law, Su Wenbin frowned.
Min Ling hurriedly tried to help Su Yufen, but was glared back at by Zhao Youcai with a fierce look.
"You are talented. Let's talk nicely. What's wrong?"
Su Wenbin tried to calm down the furious Zhao Youcai.
"Talk nicely?! How can I talk nicely?!"
Zhao Youcai didn't listen at all. He seemed to have found an outlet to vent his feelings, and poured out all the humiliation and suspicion that had been pent up for many days.
"She's been like a lost soul all day, hiding from me, afraid of me. At night, she talks in her sleep about Shanghai and boat tickets, and begs me not to tell anyone. That girl Su Tang also knows, but they kept it from me. Now, she has the nerve to ask for a divorce?!"
"Brother and sister-in-law! You, the Su family, must give me an explanation! If Su Yufen doesn't explain herself clearly today, I, Zhao Youcai, will never let her go!"
The words Zhao Youcai uttered pierced the ears of Su Wenbin and his wife like needles, causing their expressions to change.
They vaguely knew what their sister did in Shanghai before her marriage, but they were not sure what she did specifically.
Zhao Youcai's attitude clearly showed that he had caught something fatal.
The scene was in chaos. Su Yufen just cried and refused to speak.
Zhao Youcai refused to give in and forced the Su family to give an explanation.
More and more villagers gathered around, buzzing with discussions and pointing fingers.
Just when Su Wenbin was getting extremely upset and Zhao Youcai was about to smash things, a cold and calm voice pierced through the noise.
"Uncle, my parents can't give you the explanation you want."
The crowd automatically parted to make a path.
Su Tang walked over step by step, carrying a small basket of freshly picked seaweed.
There was no expression on her face. Her eyes swept across Su Yufen who was collapsed on the ground crying, passed by the furious Zhao Youcai, and finally fell on her anxious parents, with a hint of comfort.
"Su Tang!"
When Zhao Youcai saw her, his anger grew even more intense.
"You've come just in time! You and your aunt kept it a secret from me! Tell me clearly in front of everyone today! What exactly did she..."
"Uncle."
Su Tang interrupted him, drowning out all the noise.
She walked to a few steps in front of Zhao Youcai and stood still, looking straight into his eyes that were almost spitting fire.
"What do you want to hear? My aunt's life in Shanghai before her marriage? Or why she's afraid of you?"
Her tone was terrifyingly calm, yet it made Zhao Youcai and Su Yufen's hearts rise to their throats at the same time.
Su Tang's eyes slowly swept over the villagers around him who were listening with their ears perked up, and there was even a very faint, almost sarcastic arc at the corner of his mouth.
"Uncle, you dragged Auntie here and made a scene in front of the whole village. Do you want to get the truth? Or do you want everyone to see a joke? To see our Su family's face torn off and trampled in the mud?"
Zhao Youcai was choked by her question and his face turned purple.
“Some things are easy for me to say.”
Su Tang's gaze fell back on Zhao Youcai's face, with a calmness that seemed to see through everything.
"But what happens after you tell it? Uncle, are you really ready? Are you ready to endure everything the truth brings? Are you ready to let the whole island know what wonderful story happened in your family?"
Every word accurately hit Zhao Youcai's most sensitive and concerned face.
Su Tang leaned forward slightly, lowering his voice even more, but with such force that only Zhao You could hear it clearly.
"Uncle, you're a smart man. Some boils, if left unopened, will fester inside and cause pain to the person inside. If opened, pus and blood will ooze out, and the stench will be unbearable, disgusting to everyone, especially someone like you who cares about your reputation."
"My aunt is asking for a divorce to give you a way out. If you accept it, we can all go our separate ways in a dignified manner. If you don't accept it..."
She paused, a sharp glint flashing in her eyes. "Do you really want to fight to the death? Overturn the table and let everyone see whether it's maggots or a dragon crawling underneath? Can you afford the consequences?"
"Who do you think is more afraid, Auntie, or you who can't afford to lose this person?"
Zhao Youcai felt as if a basin of ice water was poured over his head, and his raging anger was instantly frozen.
He looked into Su Tang's clear yet bottomless eyes. There was no threat in them, only calm and cruel statements.
She didn't tell the secret, but it was more cruel than telling it!
She precisely grasped his Achilles' heel, the face and status that Zhao Youcai cared about most.
Once the secret is revealed in public, the prestige he has painstakingly built up over the years will be gone, and he will become a laughing stock in front of everyone, which will be more painful than killing him.
Su Yufen also stopped crying and looked at Su Tang in horror, then at Zhao Youcai.
Su Tang stood up straight, and his voice returned to its normal volume, with a sense of calmness that everything had settled.
"Don't air your dirty laundry in public. Aunt, uncle, if you have anything to say, talk it out behind closed doors. Whether you're getting together or apart, arguing or fighting, it's all your business. What else can you gain by making a scene here, other than letting others laugh at you?"
After she finished speaking, she stopped looking at Zhao Youcai, who was standing stiffly on the spot, and Su Yufen, who was limp, and turned to her parents and whispered softly, "Dad, Mom, the sea breeze is strong, let's go back to the house."
She naturally took her mother's arm, supported her father who was still a little dazed, and calmly walked through the silent crowd back to her own yard.
Zhao Youcai was left alone standing in the center of the storm.
