Chapter 93 He whispered almost against her lips…
The dim candlelight appeared warm and ambiguous in the night. A gentle night breeze blew the lanterns, and the candlelight flowed softly between the two people's gazing eyes.
Feng Mian suddenly stood on tiptoe and reached out to pinch Baili Xunzhou's cheek, "You scared me to death!"
Her sleeves slipped down, revealing two sections of snow-white arms.
"Be careful." Seeing her leaning forward, Baili Xunzhou was worried that she might fall out of the window. Instead of dodging, he stepped forward and firmly put his free hand around her waist. With a little force, he lifted her up, making it easier for her to pinch his cheeks and "attack".
The deep red hibiscus was squeezed between the two, its rich fragrance growing stronger, and a few soft petals fluttered down, adorning Fengmian's shoulders and temples.
Her moist red lips contrasted beautifully with the deep red petals, enticing Baili Xunzhou's gaze and making his fingertips restless.
"Why do you walk so quietly? Don't suddenly appear like that next time..." Feng Mianhun was oblivious, still "reprimanding" him. Seeing him silent, with his eyes downcast and seemingly lost in thought, she couldn't help but stand on tiptoe even harder, pinch his cheek and shake it, emphasizing, "Did you hear me?"
The conversation abruptly stopped when Baili Xunzhou suddenly moved closer.
Taking advantage of her tiptoeing posture, Baili Xunzhou quickly leaned forward and pecked her lips.
They parted as quickly as they touched the water, like a dragonfly skimming the surface.
"I heard you, Mianmian." The voice was gentle and low, the few words seeming to be repeatedly rolled between the lips, carrying a hint of indescribable tenderness.
Feng Mian was startled by his sudden attack. She instinctively released her grip on his cheek and quickly retreated back into the window. She snatched the hibiscus flowers and hugged them tightly, barely managing to cover half of her burning face with the large blossoms, leaving only her large, watery black eyes wide open. Her expression was a mixture of embarrassment and helplessness as she glared at him through the bouquet: "You... you just finished speaking, and you scared me again!"
Baili Xunzhou showed no sign of admitting his mistake, and instead chuckled as he looked at her, his eyes curving into a beautiful arc.
The slight annoyance in Feng Mian's heart vanished in an instant when he laughed it off.
She looked away, reminding herself not to be captivated by beauty, and asked sullenly through the flowers, "Where did these flowers come from?"
"I picked it from the roadside," he replied casually.
Feng Mian held the flower up to her eyes, examining it closely. The petals were full and layered like brocade, of excellent quality. She looked up suspiciously, "This doesn't look like a wildflower from the roadside at all. You didn't... knock over someone's flower bed, did you?"
Baili Xunzhou raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised by her words, and stood there speechless for a moment.
Seeing his expression, Feng Mian thought it was possible more and more, and hurriedly said, "No, no, hurry up, take the money and go apologize to them!"
She thought of Chu Jingqi being wrongly imprisoned by Luo Chier and felt lingering fear. "If that wicked Luo Chier finds out, he might seize on this small matter and make a big deal out of it. Although most of the people in Yunzhong County are reasonable and treat us kindly, even so, too many problems can cause more trouble!"
Seeing her anxious and impatient expression, as if she wanted to drag him to her door to pay compensation immediately, Baili Xunzhou finally couldn't help but laugh. He pulled Feng Mian back from walking towards the door, saying, "I gave it to her, I gave her the money. It was an old woman who took care of the flower garden, and she picked some to sell by the roadside."
Feng Mian finally breathed a sigh of relief and muttered softly, "That's more like it."
"Do you think I'm the kind of person who would take things by force?" This time, it was Baili Xunzhou's turn to pinch her cheek.
With just a gentle pinch, he opened his palm and cupped Feng Mian's cheek as she leaned in close.
Feng Mian pressed her hand against his palm, smiled at him with her eyes crinkling, and said, "I'm just worried sick."
The skin that his palm touched was as smooth as cream, and his warm breath occasionally brushed against his wrist, causing a slight tickle that spread along his arm all the way to his heart.
Baili Xunzhou looked down at her, his gaze fixed on her. The moonlight and lamplight intertwined, making her appear like a jade beauty.
A thought flickered in his mind, and he asked softly, "Are you sleepy?"
Feng Mian shook her head. "I'm not sleepy."
"Then..." He paused, then winked gently at Feng Mian, his voice laced with seductive anticipation, "How about we go to the rooftop to admire the moon?"
Feng Mian's eyes lit up. She had never climbed a roof before, and she found it incredibly novel. She nodded vigorously, "Okay!"
As she spoke, she placed the hibiscus in her hand on the flower stand beside her, and then impatiently climbed out of the window, trying to get out directly through the window.
"Hey, stop, stop, stop." Baili Xunzhou was startled by her reckless action and quickly reached out to stop her, both amused and helpless: "Why did you climb through the window when there's a front door?"
Feng Mian was actually excited and forgot that she could use the door. But now that she was being held back and stuck in the window, she felt a sense of challenge. She was about to get to the roof, so why couldn't she even climb through the window?
"I refuse to go through the door." She stubbornly refused to pull back her legs, which were already halfway up the ladder.
Baili Xunzhou chuckled twice, then conceded with a smile, "Alright, alright, let's climb out the window then, come on."
He released his grip on Feng Mian's arm and took a half-step back, giving her room to maneuver.
Feng Mian gripped the wooden window frame with both hands, her right knee kneeling on the narrow sill, while her left toes were raised to their maximum position, with only the very tip touching the ground. She strained, trying to use this momentum to lightly lift her entire body up, but her strength was insufficient, and her left foot suddenly fell back to its original position.
She gave a soft "humph," showing no sign of discouragement. She readjusted her posture and tried again, this time clenching her teeth tightly and furrowing her delicate brows slightly.
Her fingers, gripping the window frame, turned slightly white from the excessive force, and the edges of her fingers gradually turned red from being pressed against the frame. She suddenly exerted force, this time with enough strength, but because of the excessive momentum, she couldn't control her strength and her forehead slammed straight into the hard window frame.
A hand with distinct knuckles suddenly reached out and gently placed it on her forehead, catching her head as it lurched about. At the same time, another warm and strong hand gently patted her side, the warmth of the palm seeping through the thin fabric of her clothes.
With a slight upward lift, he scooped her up gracefully from the window, her skirt arcing cleanly through the air before landing steadily in front of him.
He tapped Fengmian's forehead with two fingers.
"It's obvious you've never climbed through a window before. Couldn't you have asked me for help?" Baili Xunzhou said softly, a hint of dissatisfaction in his voice that Feng Mian hadn't asked him for help.
He bent down, wanting to lift her skirt to take a look. "Does your knee hurt? Let me see if you're hurt..."
Feng Mian took a step to the side. "It's alright, let's hurry up. How are we going to get up to the roof? Climb a ladder?"
She was like a fledgling bird learning to fly for the first time, chirping excitedly.
Baili Xunzhou listened with a smile, then led her into the courtyard, raising his arm to firmly encircle her waist. "Hold on tight."
With a light touch of his toes, he rose into the air like a crane in flight.
Feng Mian subconsciously closed her eyes, only to feel the night breeze brush past her ears. When she looked up again, she was already standing on a rooftop bathed in moonlight.
She instinctively wrapped her arms around Baili Xunzhou beside her, her gaze trembling as she looked at the roof tiles at her feet.
Baili Xunzhou held her waist firmly in his palm. "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
Feng Mian slowly took a deep breath before tentatively widening his gaze. The view was actually quite similar to what he had seen from the pavilion, but now it was an unusually exciting scene, which made it seem more interesting.
The lights of the Prince's Mansion spread out beneath my feet, and the bright moon in the sky seemed so close that I could almost touch it.
"Come, sit down." Baili Xunzhou helped Feng Mian sit down carefully on the roof ridge, and then magically produced two small wine jars from behind his back. The jars collided and made a crisp sound.
"How can one appreciate the moon at night without wine?"
Feng Mian stared in astonishment, looking around at the empty rooftop. Suddenly, she narrowed her eyes and asked, "Did you plan this all along?"
Baili Xunzhou smiled but said nothing, and handed her the wine jar in his hand.
So much has happened these past two days, and all he wants is for her to be happy.
Feng Mian could naturally guess what he was thinking, and her heart warmed. She took the wine jar and hugged it to her chest. Looking up, she saw the carriage parked in the backyard and said to Baili Xunzhou, "On the way back in the carriage today, Madam Zhe told me something important..."
"Is this matter urgent?" Baili Xunzhou suddenly interrupted her. "Would it have any impact if we discussed it tomorrow?"
Feng Mian paused for a moment, then thought for a moment and said, "Then it shouldn't have any impact."
"Then let's not talk about these things tonight." Baili Xunzhou removed the cloth sealing the wine jar, held the bottom of the jar with one hand, and tilted the jar towards Feng Mian, indicating that she should touch it with him.
Feng Mian swallowed his words and prepared to lift the cloth covering the wine jar in his hand, but then suddenly remembered something and asked, "What trouble did that Luo Chier cause you today?"
Baili Xunzhou sighed softly, "Must we talk about other men under such a beautiful moonlight?"
"I'm just concerned about you." Feng Mian wrinkled his nose.
Baili Xunzhou reached out and, with a flick of his fingers, ripped off Ge Bu's clothes. He said casually, "He's just nitpicking a few soldiers' minor mistakes and trying to make a fuss about it. Don't worry, he won't amount to much in the Northern Frontier."
"Really, let's not talk about that anymore, come and try the bar I prepared."
Baili Xunzhou brought the wine jar to Feng Mian's face, clinked it with her's, and then tilted his head back to drink a mouthful of wine from the jar, looking very carefree and happy, while glancing at Feng Mian's actions out of the corner of his eye.
Feng Mian held the wine jar in both hands, tilted his head back, and tentatively took a sip. He was immediately choked, closed his eyes, and stuck out his tongue. "So strong!"
Hearing a muffled laugh from beside her, Feng Mian raised her hand and punched him. "Are you doing this on purpose?"
The clenched fist fell into a warm palm.
"Sorry, sorry, I took the wrong one. This jar is the one I prepared for you."
The heat source beside her moved closer, blocking out the light in front of her. Feng Mian's eyelashes trembled, and she slowly opened them a crack, only to see Baili Xunzhou's handsome face magnified in front of her. His eyes held a slight smile, and she could see his individual, curled eyelashes clearly.
His hot breath sprayed on her cheeks, and even the back of her ears felt hot.
He whispered almost to her lips, "It's sweet, try it."
Then a warm, moist sensation covered his lips, and the sweet taste of fruit wafted from between their lips. Feng Mian subconsciously stuck out his tongue to lick his lips, only to have it caught and held between his lips.
A heavy kiss landed, and as their lips and tongues lingered, Feng Mian gradually tilted his head back. Through his hazy vision, he could only see the faint moonlight, like a flowing golden pool of water splashing behind his ears.
He was tightly clasped around the waist, and a burning palm slid down his back. The sweet and spicy aroma of alcohol mingled in the air, forming a thick, inseparable mist.
There were soft, restrained yet somewhat unbearable muffled groans in my ears, and...
"You two, get down here!"
A voice filled with gritted teeth rang out like thunder in the courtyard, and the two of them shuddered and quickly regained their senses.
Baili Xunzhou stood in front of Feng Mian, whose cheeks were flushed, and cautiously glanced into the courtyard. He saw Feng Ciyan standing inside with his hands on his hips and a dark expression.
He gritted his teeth and emphasized again: "Get down!"
A gentle night breeze swept away the restlessness. Baili Xunzhou half-hid Feng Mian behind him, and the two of them obediently accepted the scolding with their heads bowed.
"You two aren't living a thrilling life enough? What are you doing climbing rooftops in the middle of the night? What if you fall?"
"Especially you! Baili Xunzhou, you fell and that's it. Xiaoman has never practiced martial arts, and you still dragged her along to make a mess?" Feng Ciyan reprimanded Baili Xunzhou with concentrated anger.
Baili Xunzhou looked dejected: "It's all my fault. I didn't think things through and insisted on taking Mianmian to the roof..."
"Uncle, please don't blame him. A-Zhuo is so skilled in martial arts, he can protect me. I just wanted to go up and see the moon. We won't do it again next time!" Feng Mian quickly spoke up for Baili Xunzhou.
"Would he dare to do it again? Even the best swimmers can drown; how do you know he won't slip? He's a married man, yet he acts so recklessly..."
Seeing that Feng Ciyan was about to scold him again, Feng Mian quickly stepped forward to change the subject: "Uncle, Madam Zhe told me something important today! If we don't tell you now, it will be too late!"
Feng Ciyan looked at her suspiciously.
