Chapter 1 Reunion

Chapter 1 Reunion

wedge.

North Beijing, late winter.

Wen Jiu had just come out of the procuratorate when her phone vibrated in her palm.

A new message pops up at the top of the screen.

Xiaxia: "Honey, I'm here, across from your workplace."

"Then I'll go over there."

Her eyes softened as she replied to the message and stepped down the stairs.

Today is a class reunion after many years, and Wen Jiu and her friends have agreed to go together.

Even after living in Beicheng for so many years, she still couldn't get used to the winters here; the biting cold made it almost impossible to breathe.

The wind whistled past her ears. Wen Jiu wrapped her coat tighter around herself and quickened her pace toward the white car parked by the roadside.

After sending the message, Xia Shi was about to switch to another app when, out of boredom, she clicked into the class group chat.

"Look who's here!"

Following this message, a video came into view.

In the corner, the man leaned back on the sofa, his face hidden in the shadows like a finely sculpted work of art.

Even in the dim light, his facial features remained three-dimensional and deep.

As the light and shadow shifted, he tilted his head to talk to the person beside him, a slight smile playing on his lips as they discussed something. His lowered eyes and languid composure were captivating.

She stared blankly until there was a knock on the car window from the outside. She subconsciously turned her head and saw the woman who had walked over at some point.

She wore a black overcoat and had her long, curly hair tied low.

In the cold wind, a face appeared, clear and fair.

Xia Shi hurriedly turned his phone face down and opened the car door.

"What are you looking at so intently?" Wen Jiu leaned over to get into the car and asked casually.

Unexpectedly, the person next to him suddenly became nervous.

She stopped fastening her seatbelt and looked at me directly: "What's wrong?"

Meeting those gentle eyes, Xia Shi guessed he hadn't seen the video. The words lingered on his lips, unsure whether to speak or swallow them.

I struggled with this internally for a while.

final--

"Zhou Yanchuan is back."

Perhaps it was because the carriage was too quiet, or perhaps they were too close together.

The girl's voice seemed to float in my ear, lacking any sense of reality.

Wen Jiu remained in the seatbelt-fastened position for a while before her hazy consciousness slowly returned, and she whispered, "You're back."

“Well, someone saw it at the class reunion,” Xia Shi said carefully, “If you feel awkward, we can skip this one…”

"It's okay," Wen Jiu said, pressing the seatbelt buckle without much expression on her face. "Everything's already arranged."

Hearing this, Xia Shi felt a strange pang of sadness.

When they first met, she was completely fooled by Wen Jiu's appearance.

She has a gentle, non-threatening face, but she is actually more stubborn than anyone else and never runs away from trouble.

The only time I lost control was when I broke up with Zhou Yanchuan.

After the breakup, Xia Shi was worried about leaving her alone, so he asked his counselor for leave to go to her apartment and stay with her.

I still can't forget the scene I saw when I opened the apartment door.

The room was dark, and the curtains were drawn tightly. The only light source in the room came from the cell phone on the floor, whose screen flickered incessantly in the quiet atmosphere.

Wen Jiu was sitting on the ground.

She curled her knees up and hugged herself tightly with her arms.

The phone rang countless times before finally falling silent.

Xia Shi hurriedly stepped forward.

She called "Xiao Jiu" several times before the person sitting on the ground slowly raised their head.

He didn't say anything, just stared at her without moving.

Large tears fell to the ground one after another.

...

Knowing he couldn't refuse, Xia Shi started the car: "If you feel unwell, just tell me, and we'll leave immediately."

"good."

*

It's a 40-minute drive from the prosecutor's office to the agreed-upon hotel.

Upon arrival at their destination, the two followed a waiter through a long corridor and finally stopped in front of two black doors engraved with antique patterns.

The moment the door opened, music and conversation filled the air, along with the strong smells of alcohol and perfume.

The lights flickered, and shadowy figures moved about.

People in the room gradually noticed the commotion by the door and casually turned their gaze over.

They were momentarily stunned when they saw the person standing in the corridor.

"Squad leader?"

In fact, they had all prepared for Wen Jiu not to come.

After all, that person was here today.

In high school, everyone knew Zhou Yanchuan.

At the age of sixteen or seventeen, the boy's brilliance was dazzling.

Born into a prominent family, and also possessing a handsome appearance.

His personality is also flamboyant and unrestrained.

It has left a deep and colorful mark on the youth of countless girls.

When Wen Jiu is mentioned, the first image that comes to mind is a slender figure sitting quietly in her seat. To them, the girl is silent and obedient; there is no other impression.

The suddenness of their relationship caused quite a stir.

Nobody had high hopes for their relationship.

After all, the gap is just too big.

But who would have thought that these two would talk for several years?

Over the past few years, Zhou Yanchuan has practically made Wen Jiu a paragon of virtue.

They also changed their initial thoughts and felt that the two might actually end up together.

But to my surprise, they still broke up.

Just like when we first started dating, the breakup was sudden.

Moreover, Zhou Yanchuan was the one who got dumped.

The atmosphere in the banquet hall became subtle from the moment Wen Jiu appeared.

The group exchanged glances, all unconsciously looking towards the corner.

The person on the sofa is on the phone, head bowed.

The sitting posture was casual and relaxed.

As if sensing something, he raised his eyes.

The atmosphere around them suddenly became quiet.

Wen Jiu noticed the change in atmosphere and also caught everyone's gazes directed towards the corner.

Even without looking, she could guess who was sitting there.

The heartbeat precedes the body's reaction.

She stood still, but the hand holding the coat unconsciously tightened its grip little by little. After a few seconds, she couldn't resist any longer and tilted her head slightly.

The cool-toned light cast a dull shadow on that superior face.

His facial features are three-dimensional and deep, with a sharp, angular jawline.

He was on the phone, and the hand holding the phone seemed to control light and shadow.

His bones and muscles were clearly defined, and his body was slender and pale.

The second button of the shirt collar was undone, casting a shadow over the hollow of the collarbone.

Compared to his former unrestrained and roguish demeanor, he now exudes more aloofness and refinement.

Perhaps sensing her gaze, he raised his eyes.

Their eyes met, and Wen Jiu froze.

The music and voices around me seemed to have disappeared.

Countless scenes from the past flashed through my mind in that instant.

In the dimly lit room, Wen Jiu was cornered, surrounded by a cool, pungent fragrance. Her back was pressed against the wall, and her hands helplessly wrapped around the neck of the person in front of her.
