Chapter 132 Mind Your Own Business
As soon as Wen Jiu opened the door after returning home, Xiao Huang pounced on her.
She smiled and squatted down to pet its head, but for some reason, the big guy who usually clung to her for a long time only played with her for a few seconds this time before looking towards the door.
Wen Jiu also turned around to look, but before she could ask any questions, Xiao Huang suddenly barked fiercely at the door.
This is an apartment building with residents on both floors. Since it was already late at night, Wen Jiu hurriedly went to stop them: "Xiao Huang, you can't make noise."
It usually listens to her when she speaks, but this time it barked fiercely again. This unusual reaction made Wen Jiu wonder, "Is someone there?"
She stood up from the ground and turned on the security camera video at the door.
The dimly lit corridor was empty except for the eerie green glow of the fire escape lights.
But if there was nothing there, Xiao Huang wouldn't have reacted this way. Wen Jiu was puzzled, so she took out her phone from her pocket and called the property management.
"Hello, I'm a resident of apartment 901 in building 11. My dog has been barking a lot lately. Could you please send someone up to check if someone is in the hallway or somewhere else?"
Not long after the phone call ended, Wen Jiu saw through the surveillance video that two men in uniforms came up. She recognized one of them and, after confirming that he was a security guard from the community, she opened the door.
"Miss Wen," Chu Qi greeted her.
"It's so late, thank you for your help."
“It’s alright,” the man waved his hand and then carefully checked the surroundings. He opened the fire escape door, shone a flashlight around, and turned to her, saying, “Miss Wen, there’s no one here. Don’t worry.”
Wen Jiu breathed a sigh of relief: "Thank you all."
“It’s the right thing to do,” the two men said in unison, “and if there’s nothing else, we’ll be leaving now.”
"good."
Wen Jiu was about to close the door when Xiao Huang, standing beside her, remained tightly guarding her, poised to attack.
"Sweetie, why are you acting so strange today?" After closing the door, Wen Jiu squatted down and gently rubbed the boy's head, speaking softly, "Is it because Mommy has been too busy lately and hasn't played with you enough? How about I take you to the park this Saturday when I have some time?"
Little Huang nuzzled against her.
Wen Jiu rested her head on its body and stroked its back: "I saw that person today, and he seemed to hate me a lot."
Originally, she hoped he would hate her, but the pain in her heart became increasingly uncontrollable.
It's okay, Wen Jiu thought.
People always have to look forward; there are still many things to do tomorrow.
but.
She couldn't hold back her emotions when the big creature next to her raised its paw to touch her knee.
Snowflakes were falling heavily outside the window, and the north wind was howling.
When Zhou Yanchuan first went abroad, Wen Jiu found it particularly difficult to adjust. She hadn't planned to return to Qingyang during the winter break, but then she thought she would go back to pack up and buy a ticket to go back after the break started.
As soon as I went upstairs, the door across the street opened.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she stared blankly at the door that had been pushed open.
As the crack in the door gradually widened, she finally saw the person behind it.
A strange man.
Wen Jiu chuckled self-deprecatingly, pushed open her own door, and stepped inside.
She only saw the man on the day she returned home, and didn't see him again for the next week.
Until that day, the debt collectors came to the door.
Before she could react, the door opposite opened first, and without saying a word, they dragged the two debt collectors downstairs.
After that, whenever someone came to collect a debt, he was always able to chase them away before she could.
Another time, Wen Jiu bought some fruit to thank him. When she raised her hand to knock on the door, she heard a voice coming from inside.
It appears to be someone making a phone call.
She heard the man say, "Who is this girl Zhou Yanchuan? You called me out of the military camp just to have me help her chase after debt collectors?"
The bag in my hand fell to the ground, as did my tears.
Whenever Wen Jiu thinks of these things, she feels an indescribable heartache.
With red eyes, she hugged the dog in front of her, a tear sliding down her cheek.
It's time to let it go.
No matter how reluctant you are, it's time to let go.
*
The next morning, as Wen Jiu was walking towards the elevator, she suddenly stopped.
She turned her head to look at the water meter room in the corner, and for some reason, the related cases that were hiding there popped into her mind.
She let Xiao Huang out of the house and led him to the door of the water meter room.
Wen Jiu reached out to pull the door open.
A chill ran down my spine when I saw the playing card lying in the corner.
Someone hid here last night.
She put this sign inside a long time ago. It won't fall off when the door is opened, but it will only fall off when someone goes in and touches the meter.
She swallowed twice and started watching the security camera footage at the entrance on her way to the procuratorate in a taxi. She set the time to the period when she entered her home last night.
Wen Jiu stared intently at the screen, watching herself enter the room in the video.
One second, two seconds, three seconds. Just as she was starting to wonder if she was overthinking things, a person wrapped up tightly stepped out of the elevator at the tenth second. At that moment, a dog barked from inside the room.
Wen Jiu gripped her phone tightly.
*
"Warmth inspection has a letter for you."
As soon as Wen Jiu entered the office, Lin Fan handed her an envelope.
In the past, victims' families would often write letters of thanks in person, and Wen Jiu took them and opened them without any suspicion.
My fingertips went cold the moment the photo fell out.
The photos were taken from various angles, including two pictures of her sitting in the living room reading a book while wearing a tank top.
"What is this?" Sun Jin noticed the change in her expression, walked over to look, and frowned when she saw the photo on the table. "Who is so arrogant as to dare to take photos of a prosecutor without permission!"
Looking at the photo on the table that read "Our Prosecutor Wen is so charming," Wen Jiu subconsciously felt that she hadn't offended anyone and was being threatened, but rather that she had provoked some kind of pervert.
She suddenly remembered the person who had appeared at her doorstep last night and rubbed her temples.
Sun Jin suggested, "Why don't you move? This isn't the first time."
"Hmm, I'll look for a suitable house recently."

Towering buildings stand tall, and from the floor-to-ceiling windows, the entire city's night view is unobstructed.
Inside the mansion, the lights were on. A scream rang out, and the waiter collapsed to the ground: "Someone's dead!"
The elevator continued to ascend. Zhou Yanchuan, in a low mood, looked down at the banquet hall through the glass and asked, "What happened? Why is it so chaotic?"
Listening to the sounds coming from the earphones, Lu Nian whispered, "It sounds like someone has died."
He frowned.
As he spoke, Zhou Yanchuan's gaze fell on one of the figures below.
Under the crystal chandelier, surrounded by a group of police officers, a woman in civilian clothes pushed open the door and entered.
Lu Nian noticed his distraction, and upon looking over, exclaimed in surprise, "This isn't the prosecutor from last time."
Zhou Yanchuan didn't say anything, but simply raised his hand and pressed the button for the first floor.
"Didn't you want to rest?"
bite--
The elevator doors opened, and Zhou Yanchuan walked out slowly and deliberately, his voice calm and deep.
"Mind your own business."
