Chapter 166 Attending the Banquet

Chapter 166 Attending the Banquet

The next morning, Wen Jiu rushed to her workplace.

According to Sun Jin, it was Pei Song's birthday on Friday night. She thought he would keep a low profile, but perhaps he knew they couldn't do anything about it, so he still threw a big party and even sent them invitations.

Looking at the red invitation on the table, Sun Jin laughed angrily: "We didn't find anything from him, yet he still wants me to give him a gift."

"Shall we go?" Lin Fan asked cautiously from the side.

"Go ahead, he's already invited you, there's no reason not to go."

"Is Sister Jiu Jiu going?"

Wen Jiu was not present during the search that day, Pei Song was unaware of her existence, and her name was not on the invitation.

Upon hearing the girl's question, Wen Jiu and Lin Fan's expressions changed simultaneously.

The previously deadlocked situation suddenly took a turn for the better.

People from all walks of life will definitely be there on the birthday party, and they might accidentally reveal something. Since Wen Jiu's identity is unknown, we can go as ordinary guests, which will make it easier to investigate.

However, the question is how she's going to get there right now.

The two exchanged a glance, then both found themselves in a dilemma.

Lin Fan didn't think as deeply as the other two; she was simply wondering how Wen Jiu would get there.

“Hey,” she had a sudden inspiration, but immediately lowered her gaze.

Sun Jin noticed a subtle change in the girl's expression: "Speak."

"I don't feel well."

"Will you tell me or not?"

"If Sister Jiu Jiu wants to go, could she go as Lawyer He's friend? Pei Song is his future father-in-law, so he will definitely be there."

"That's one way."

However, as Lin Fan said, things aren't so good.

Just as Sun Jin was debating whether or not to let Xiao Jiu use this method, she heard her say, "I'll go ask Master."

"Oh right, how could I forget about the quarterly inspection?"

"However, Master has never liked these kinds of occasions. Now that he's retired, he probably won't go even more. I'll ask him first."

"good."

When Wen Jiu called, her master had indeed received the invitation, but as she had guessed, he had no intention of going.

Hearing that she was interested, her teacher's wife said from the side, "Since Wen Bai is going, let him take Xiao Jiu with him."

After deciding "how to get there," the group started thinking about what to wear on the day.

Lin Fan said, "I see people wearing formal dresses on TV. Should we prepare one too?"

“Why would we wear that?” Sun Jin answered bluntly. “Just wear normal clothes. I don’t believe you won’t let us in.”

"What about Sister Jiu Jiu? Should she dress up a little? After all, she can't let people know she's with us."

"Yes, Xiao Jiu, you need to get ready."

"good."

Wen Jiu didn't go home immediately after get off work that day; instead, she went shopping alone.

Finally, I chose a moon-colored evening gown in a simply decorated store. It had a halter neck and a fishtail skirt.

She didn't notice the cutout on the back when she tried it on, but when she got home and took it out of the bag to hang it in the closet, she discovered a cutout on the back.

"It's alright," Wen Jiu said, gesturing to her body. There wasn't a particularly large or empty spot.

Friday arrived as scheduled.

Before going to Pei Song's place, Wen Jiu went to her master's place first.

Ji Wenbai saw the person walking towards him from a distance.

It was obvious that the girl was wearing a long dress under her down jacket. She was wearing makeup, and in the freezing cold, her face was as beautiful as white porcelain. Her long hair, which was usually tied low, was now loose and half-draped over her shoulders. Her presence even added a touch of color to the withered trees behind her.

He forgot he had a cigarette in his hand, and only after being burned did he slowly come to his senses.

Ji Wenbai stubbed out his cigarette and threw it into the trash can, then waved to the people.

The car's heater had been turned on beforehand, and as soon as Wen Jiu got in, her icy hands and feet began to warm up gradually.

The person in the driver's seat said gently, "I'll turn up the car's interior temperature a bit more. There are some hand warmers your teacher's wife gave you over there; put on a couple first."

Wen Jiu's nose was red from the cold. She sniffed and softly replied, "Okay."

"Why didn't you wear something thicker?"

As the car slowly started moving, Ji Wenbai asked.

Wen Jiu said frankly, "I'm afraid it'll be too strange."

He smiled and, before driving onto the main road, stopped at the side of the road again: "Wait for me a moment."

"good."

Wen Jiu waited quietly in her seat. After about five minutes, the man returned. As the car door opened, a gust of cold wind blew in.

The gust of wind jolted her awake.

The next second, the car door was closed, along with a warm cup of hot cocoa.

Her expression was blank.

He explained frankly, "Your master and mistress instructed me to take good care of you tonight. Drink this to warm yourself up first."

The man was polite and gentlemanly, without the slightest hint of being inappropriate. Wen Jiu hugged the cup tighter and whispered, "Thank you."

Ji Wenbai smiled and started the car.

"Actually, I've seen you before."

Have you seen me before?

Ji Wenbai nodded.

He met her three years ago, also in winter.

He had just returned from abroad when a friend invited him to a teahouse. While waiting for the tea, he suddenly heard a gentle and melodious song.

He looked in the direction of the sound and saw the girl sitting on the stage.

I don't know how to describe the feeling at that moment, but she was such a pure and innocent girl.

Seeing him looking at her, his friend introduced her, "Little Oriole, I'm not exaggerating, nine out of ten people who come here for tea are here because of her. She's beautiful and has a sweet voice."

Ji Wenbai smiled indifferently.

On my way home, that slender figure came into view again.

She took off her long dress and wrapped herself in a soft down jacket, no longer looking aloof and ethereal on stage, but exuding a warm and cozy homey vibe.

A person was squatting on the ground, doing something unknown.

As he got closer, he heard a faint sobbing sound.

He felt in his pocket and luckily found a piece of paper. Just as he was about to hand it to her, he saw a figure not far away.

In that brief moment of distraction, the little girl had already stood up from the ground.

He never imagined he would see her again after so many years. He didn't recognize her at first glance, but just now, when she ran towards him, reality and memories overlapped.

Wen Jiu looked surprised after hearing this; she hadn't expected such a coincidence.

That period was the most difficult time for her. It was her birthday that day, and she didn't expect to receive a debt collection call right after finishing work. She couldn't hold back her emotions and burst into tears.

but.

Wen Jiu's eyelashes fluttered, and she asked, "When you said you wanted to hand over the paper, did you see someone not far away?"
